iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

I don't care what you do, reset, drain battery, set up as new, install apps one by one from the App Store or iTunes. Reboot it.....it's gonna take Apple and a proper ios update!! On my 3rd ipad mini...the software is messed up!! People who say, my battery is fine. BS! Maybe we will see a fix with 7.0 don't expect another false battery fix. iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPads, iPods. All of them are messed up after 6.1.2. That update was a joke! I sound like mr. Negative, but its all true!

I just updated to IOS 6.1.2 today. I will see what will happen. Like I have said before:

  1. Do the IOS update (the one that is the latest, or if you already did or have it downloaded, then proceed to step 2)
  2. Reset All Settings: SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>RESET ALL SETTINGS
  3. Use it until it dies (automatically shuts off)
  4. Plug into Charge
  5. Leave it 1.5 hours or longer after it reaches 100% --> Undisturbed (preferably overnight)
  6. Give it a few days to Calibrate

This has helped me on my Ipod Touch 4th generation, running IOS 6.0.1

Everyone have to let Apple Engineers and developers come up with the solution and when they do they will release a update. They know there is a problem with the battery drainage on the latest updates for the 4s and 5. Apple is pretty good with taking care of issues. They have the 6.1.3 coming out for a lock screen bug and map issues. Trust me they will get to the battery drainage issues soon. It is not easy putting together an software just be patients every one. They know it is a inconvenience to have to charge the phones constantly.

No they won't. For many people it has been like this since 6.0 came out which from memory is about 6 months ago. We've had three or four releases since then and Apple have done nothing to solve the basic issue.

I have managed to get my 4S stable by not using location services or VoIP in the background - things that worked perfectly in iOS 5.

Although its now manageable for me, if I use reminders to set a location specific alert the battery is usually dead before I get to the location so what's the point? And remember this is using APPLE's OWN REMINDERS APP not some third party one that could be incompatible.

This is pure and simple a massive bug by Apple which they have refused to acknowledge and certainly not fixed over several releases and many months. Absolutely shockingly bad treatment of customers.

There is a majority of Apple costumers who are not having a problem with Apple products. There are some who is not having a battery problem with there 4s or 5. I am running 6.1.2 on my iPad 2 and 4 with not a problem. So there is a majority who are happy with there Apple products.

Who knows what the issue can be. Like how long have you had the phone. What are your charging habits. Have you reach your battery cycle life. Not saying this is for all.

You're absolutely correct that this is only affecting a minority, but for those people it is a serious issue and it happened when iOS 6 came out. As I said, my 4S is now stable after a clean install and as long as I don't use background or geofence location services so its clear there are still major defects apple has failed to address over an extended period of time. Why don't you try a geolocated reminder and let us know if it works for you without killing the battery?

To answer your question, my 4S is only a few months old. I took my last one in after it had dreadful battery life following the 6.0 upgrade and they gave me a new one. It was on 5.1.1 and working great until I upgraded to 6.0 at which point all the issues came back. On a 3 day old phone. If that doesn't confirm that iOS 6 has defects, even if it works for many people I don't know what you think does!

Oh and as an aside my wife's iPhone 5 has a brilliant battery life. Absolutely stunning. But she doesn't use location services at all. She's on 6.0.1 and I'm so fed up with how Apple has handle the 6.x upgrades she will not upgrade again for the foreseeable as its working now but we have totally lost all confidence in Apple after this dreadful mess.
