Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Seeing the same thing on my iPhone 4. Will try the power off reset to see if it makes a difference.

After doing the OTA upgrade I immediately saw the battery drain.  It could be a number of things causing this but it clearly needs to be resolved quickly.  Hope there are some other suggestions or quick interaction from Apple on this.

I did the OTA update last night and everything was well.  I charged my phone over night to 100%.  I left for work at 5:30 made a few calls and texts.  Got to work it was at 95%.  I started reading up on all the features of IOS 6 and enabled the FaceBook contact sync.  This is when I noticed a serious battery drain issue.  The phone would lost 2-3% every few mintues with no usage.  I did the reset trick, as well as the reset all setting to no avil.  My phone was also very warm to the touch after preforming both resets.  Its now 3:05 and my phone is completely dead.  When I get home I'm going to fully charge the phone and restore from last nights iCloud backup.  Once thats done will not enable the Facebook contact sync to see if that was the issue. 

I have a WiFi only iPad3 and a iPhone 4. Before upgrading I could go 3 days with moderate to heavy use before charging on either device. I did my normal charging and left my iPad and phone on the chargerand run OTA upgrade. 3 hours after the upgrade the battery is at 70% with light use. I've turned off the location feature, Siri, and Bluetooth. I don't have any thing running in the background other than WiFi. The battery(s) seem to drain more if the device is looking for WiFi service. We were setting up a new wireless router and had to old one off. I noticed the both devices dropped by 10% while there was no WiFi signal. This was over the space of about 20 minutes. I'm thinking real hard about rolling back to iOS 5 until the issue is resolved.

Guys.. just to corroborate.. my iphone 4s is dying real quick!!!

It seems it gets warm when Cellular Data and 3G are ON.. and the phone gets really warm!!

I could use my phone for almost 2 days!! now its not going to last past 3pm on the 1st day out of battery charge at 9am!!

APPLE PLS HELP faster than the last time.. !!

I'm with y'all. iPhone 4S - would have a battery last min. 12 hours a day with heavy use. 

I've barely touched it today after a full charge, and it just ran out after 7 hours after updating to iOS 6 yesterday.

Turned off bluetooth, extra notifications, closed all apps etc.. Apple is really failing with iOS 6 thus far (no transit options for NYC in maps, lack of passbook info/usability and battery).

I'll give them credit where credit is due - the 3D view in maps is in.credible.

I have the 4S and the battery drain has been very noticeable since the update. Close to 4% for every 15-20 min period. The phone is just sitting on my desk, running 2 apps in the background - Facebook and Safari, all others are closed and I barely used the phone to make 2 quick calls.

Apple, we need a FIX for this and quick!

Maybe an additional comment..  i believe the battery started drainning more when activated facebook as wel...

I didn't activate my FB yet, and yet - batery is dying at an alarming speed.

I did try the "reset/drain" suggested, and it doesn't feel like anything has improved. Also tried turning everything off. FML!

I had the same problem but did a reset (holding the home button + sleep/awake button until the unit reboots). Then I drained the battery to zero and then charged it to 100%. I have an iphone 4 at that seem to work. The battery was at 100% around 8:30 this morning and I'm at 84% now, 3:33pm. Pretty much normal use throughout the day.....some phone calls, email, and web browsing. I hope this helps.

Note .... I did not turn off Cellular Data. I did turn off a bunch of Notifications and iCloud app access based on my personal preferences.

I had a post on another site that I got this reply:

"Saw this post on the apple support community from a user named da_wob. I just got off the phone with AppleCare, and they told me how to fix the battery life issue.

Open up itunes on your mac or pc. Goto properties-->Devices-->check the "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" box Click OK Connect your iPhone to the computer with your sync cable. Once you see the device show up on the left-hand side of the itunes screen, it should be fixed.  You can disconnect it and the battery life issue should be gone. 

The Apple rep told me that iOS 6 gives better battery life than 5.1.1 did.  She did confirm that the battery life thing was an issue for those who updated over WiFi.  For some reason after the update, the phone does not stay connected to the wifi network, and connecting the phone to a pc that is on the network fixes the issue.  She reassured me that this will not happen on any other network (say work or somewhere else).  If it doesn't work, I will report back here."

I did try the fix suggested and it didn't work. I thought I would share it in the event it might help someone else out.

NEW IDEA FOR BATTERY ISSUE*

I have an iPad 3rd generation and I noticed the battery depleting much quicker than before. I have some things that someone who knows more about this might find useful.

The auto brightness for my iPad is now very noticeable and it is constantly adjusting. I noticed this while sitting in a well lit room and without moving the device at all.

I further looked into this by using my Smart Cover. In iOS 5 the Smart Cover would turn the screen on if opened and of course off if closed. I noticed that with iOS 6 when I open it that the brightness goes from very dim and slowly brightens as the cover is removed. This shows that the auto brightness is more accurate, but it also could be a battery drainer if it is constantly adjusting.

My iPad is only a couple weeks old and I previously had a second generation so I know a little bit about the device. I am hoping that this info can help solve the issue.

This worked for a friend of mine.  I updated via iTunes, not over wifi, and the battery life for my iPhone 4S seems better.  I was using GPS almost all day, and it lasted for hours.  I think the fix described by Techwrekfix might be the solution.

I did a full reset (through the Settings menu, so no data gets erased), and this seemed to have solved the problem (2h17min on stanby, still 100%).  Just after the update, battery drained much faster (few %'s after two hours).
