Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

I had a terrible battery drain

    Drooping 1% every minute

FIx ........  Backup all images tunes ect on iTunes to PC

    Make sure to backup contacts

    Do not backup APPS

In iTunes setup has new phone.  Which wipes everything,

Then put back ure tunes contacts

You wil then have to reinstall apps. DO Not Restore apps from backup. Renown load from App Store

Once done..... Turn off notif........ iCloud. Ect

DO NOT install Facebook. Use web for that

Finally turn off phone restart and then reset network.

    That's it.

My phone looses 1% on standby over 12 hrs dam brilliant. And that's with 3G data on

I have tried everything you mentioned earlier and, to no avail, didn't see any increase in my drainage. The only thing I didn't do is "restart and then reset network." What exactly do you mean by that?

    @Diogo

Dang. I wish I could at least figure out why the phone says it's constantly in use. So far I can't find the culprit.

Caleb, if I turn off Safari and iCloud for Safari then restart my phone, the constant drain stops.  I invested $0.99 in System Activity Monitor.  It will give you clues as to what is keeping your CPU running at 100%.

I now use Chrome, have Mail and Contacts set at Manual, most location services and all notifications turned off. Blocked Safari use thru Settings/General/Restrictions.  In the past, I've done other stuff but making sure Safari is not launched or synced with Safari on my iMac thru iCloud has helped the most.

    @gtuck

Lucky. I have Safari off, blocked, and iCloud for Safari off and it has been that way for the past three days. Now, I have not reset my phone since I did that (three days ago) but I do use Chrome now as well. My mail has been set to Manual now since three weeks ago, and my contacts are as well. I can reset my phone and see if it helps at all.

Caleb, when you say "reset", do you mean turn the phone off and then on, or doing a hard reset by holding down both buttons until the silver apple comes up, or resetting your settings under Settings/ General?

tuck, that's what I wanted clarification from you of. What type of reset did you perform? Because I figure I will try it if it worked for someone else.

Now for what I can workout is

Some common apps we all use are using data, when they shouldn't

That's why apple are bringing ios 6.01 update out.

Lots of people have had their data usage rocket since ios6

And that's with it on standby

So it's logical to say that it could be an app.

I know for sure that Facebook app intergration into ios 6 screwed my phone.

It wasn't good enough for me to delete it

For some reason my battery still drained,

I did a test. I cleared my phone. Start as new. Ect

Checked batt drain.  It was normal!    Then installed Facebook.  With all notif....... Off

And bam battery drain. Deleted it.   Still battery drain.

So I could assume that other apps could do same

So. Wipe. Phone. Only use standard apps

And your battery drain should decrease

As I said earlier.      Io6.01. Is intended to stop people having their data used up

Which when u think about it would mean the phones working its bollocks off. Without us knowing

I've done all three. First, I'd try to turn the phone off (Holding down top button until slider comes up and then turning phone off.  Then turn back on. I'd suggest System Activity Monitor to see which processes are taking over your CPU.  Even if I turn Safari off, my CPU will still run at 100% which obviously eats up the battery and slows up all other processes.  If I then turn the phone off and back on, the CPU settles down to 10% or less.

If that doesn't help,  I'd try a network reset (which seemed to turn off location services and I had to restart them where I needed them such as XMotion's GPS Drive,  Then do a hard reset. Review System Activity Monitor.

Sure hope that helps.  These are ideas I also found on this forum and others.

    Last thing.

U have to think of the phone like your comp......

If you get a dodgy bug virus spyware ect

You can remove. But even after its gone. Your connection through. Say Internet explorer can still be active,  fetching data and transmitting

Some people have said ios6 causes drain on iPhone 4S.

Now my partner has ios6 on 4s. Fresh clean phone.

Battery performance is same.  No probs

Remember.  Apple are rushing out ios6.01 to fix excessive data usage,  think about it.  More data more battery.

Something is talking to cell towers without us knowing.

I bet once data drain has been sorted   So will crap battery........

I just give up now.  Really, give up.  Just going to have to charge it just about 24/7 now.  I am tired and frustrated.  No end in sight.

I really think apple should fix the battery issues. I really am regretting updating to ios 6. I would downgrade, but apple refuses to allow it. They require you to pay in order to fix it... My iPhone 4s will drain quickly. I can have it at 20% left and usually can last a while, but it can't last 15 minutes anymore! Every since the ios update, mine is terrible as well! I wish apple would fix it, but they require you to pay to get it fixed, or pay for a newer model. I just wish my battery could be fixed.
