    I would call apple at 800 275 2273 and explain what's going on and what you've tried.

    I don't know if it was just timing, but an Apple Care senior advisor called me shortly after posting here, since I signed in with my Apple ID and had registered my phone and contact info.  They let me know engineers review the official discussion forums in case there are trends, or lots of people with a particular issue I guess, andasked if I would install a battery logging profile and explained the info it would collect.  He emailed me a certificate I installed and showed me where the logs get saved in my computer, and asked me to zip up and email him the text logs after a few days.  It's been a couple weeks and I have not heard back, but he said the engineers probably need to address this in an update.

    Fortunately or unfortunately, I let him know I feel my problem was more or less resolved, but I'd send any info that would help.  After turning off all cloud stuff, deleting my iTunes login from the phone, cleaning up the bookmarks on my Mac and phone, letting the phone die, charging it to full and doing a power cycle (holding down power and home button until it reboots itself), my standby was way better than before and I only noticed fast power drains occasionally using Safari or streaming music, or reasonably normal usage.  It could be better but I think my 4 is OK and fairly predictible now. iTunes U seems to be a background bandwidth and battery killer still I think, and I couldn't find out how to tell it "no cell data" like other apps.

    If you're still having issues after trying the things people suggested, I really would just call Apple at 800 275 2273 and possibly fill out the feedback form at and let them know honestly whatever issues you've noticed associated with the update, if you've been following forums and what fixes you've tried, etc.  My phone is 2 years old and they still seemed concerned with my issue.  They also suggested resetting the phone as a new phone and I explained I hate redownloading and reauthorizing everything, especially all my Amazon books, and let them know mine's good enough now.

    Re: Safari.

    I noticed sites with heavy Javascript seem to kill the battery more than most, like just being on the page is processing something.  I don't get it, but with battery, some pages or websites really seem to be worse than others.

    Actually, I am sure they know the problem, do care, and are working on a fix. However, they take the questionable approach of not responding directly. I had the problem until I did a full reset, yesterday my phone was on for two or three hours before it clicked down from 100% to 99%. Last night after using it all day, it was 85%. From what I can see of the problem, it doesn't seem to be any one thing that is doing it, since all sorts of different solutions will or will not work for any particular person. Apple has growing pains, no question, but overall, you can't get anything close to the functionality or integration that Apple provides. Also, I know at least 20 to 30 people with iPhones that do not have the problem, so I don't think it is quite as widespread as it feels when you have it and read a forum with other folks. I really push technology, so I am used to being on the bleeding edge I guess. JD

    IOS5 Was horrible on my battery life 5.0.1 same 5.1 things went back to normal IOS 6 Killed my battery life for good! Solution apple is a respectful company they should address the problem not force me to buy iPhone 5! And when my 4S is good and working 100% as it should be as a satisfied customer ill happily invest in another apple product.

    Just read that the Sr VP in charge of iOS including the new Maps app will be moving on.  He's an advisor to Cook now and leaving in 2013.  Other heads are rolling too apparently.

    I had the problem with my ipad after updating to IOS 6 in september. Skipped the facebook integration and the Facebook app. And reinstalled from Itunes. I have 13 -15 hours usage now.


    Since two weeks I bought myself an Iphone 5 with IOS 6. Installed it with Icloud. And a very fast batterydrain.And I saw that the Usage and Standby time stayed the same. So it was constantly processing, even it was in standby. Immeditely I reinstalled it with the cable and Itunes and skipped the facebook integration and the facebook app as well. I saw immediately that the usage time was not running anymore and I reach now nine hours usage, which I think it is quite normal.

    16 minute phone call, few texts, checked emails, browsed facebook for about 5 to 10 minutes and I'm sitting at 74% already. only 11:36AM


    Guess my tips I said worked didn't last for long...

    i solved my battery drain problem finaly after about 6 month of searching ...


    the problem when the iphone battery dead in 12 hours not in the setting ..


    anyway..  connect to the internet open safari go to web bookmarks delete them all, after delete iclould account , signout from itunes, after reset network setting .. then wait i phone battery to complitly dead and power off , then charge full charge ... that solve for me.


    some thing else , set auto time zone off and set the date 2 years after then after the phone power off make it back.

    I am still experiencing the battery drainage problems. I was one of the ones that Apple contacted and collected data about my battery usage and promised to call me back, but there has been no follow-up. Today I did notice that under the Location Services, under System, that categories were in use (with the purple icon) as shown in the settings menu, but nothing was showing in the upper right of my phone. Even though I selected that notification option to "on". I wonder if this may be one of the big culprits?

    Really? I think that many Android users, and even some Symbian users, might disagree with this statement.


    There are MANY things that you can't do on an iOS devices that you CAN do on other platforms, such as send a photo via Bluetooth, delete a photo on the device itself, receive a music file via Bluetooth and then play it, run more than one application at a time... need I go on?

    Time to weight in (AGAIN).  I was one of the original posters here and was able to "fix" this by doing a clean install (as a new iphone).  Worked well for several weeks, but yesterday the battery drain kicked back in.  No idea why.  Frustrating as i really don't have the time to start over and input (AGAIN) all my details and prefs.  Hopefully Apple wil fix this soon.

    I had the same problem...losing 20% of battery per hour. i fixed it by turning off all of the notifications except 3. i turned the email push to manual. but it was the Notifications that was doing it. It now has been at 50% exactly for 1.5 hours with Zero battery loss....

    Right now I only have 20% battery life.


    Usage: 3 hours, 48 minutes

    Standby: 3 hours, 49 minutes


    Time Digusted: Date iOS 6 was released.

    Now my battery is at 1%! So that's a 19% drop in one hour. Disgusting
