Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

Update to my post from two days ago: Went to the Genius Bar last night. I was told that they couldn't diagnose anything out of the ordinary, but said that they would like to install a new battery. Disappeared for 10 mins and came back, handed me my iPhone 4s and so far, so good. Battery drain seems fixed, but I want to wait a few days until the final verdict is in. I was told that if the battery drain comes up again to restore it to new phone. If it still continues they would exchange my phone for a new one. Also, the question was asked if the update to iOS 6.0.1 was interrupted. He was very apologetic and said that unfortunately I had to go through this process. Since it seems ok for now, I am happy. Will report back if the topic is back on the table.

How much did you get charged? $50, with the Apple Care plan, right?

Charged me nothing for the battery exchange. And I don't have the Apple Care Plan.

    Hi,

I bought my iPhone 4S 4 days ago and it came with ios 6.0, I update it to ios 6.0.1 the same night I think. The day I bought it I never dropped of my hand so lets say my second day is my first day.

I plug it to the wall and let it charge all night long, I pick it up %100 in the morning and leave to work.

It only made from 7:00am to 12:00am and the battery was drained completely. I charged it from my PC this time till it was %100. I managed to drain it once again by 11:30pm (23:30).

This loop was the same for yesterday, and my whole day yesterday I went through this forum and tried every single post on my phone. Some that helped and kept my phone alive atleast when it was locked are:

    - wifi - on

    - bluetooth - off

    - 3G - on

    - notifications - mostly off (messages, whats app, phone, skype, viber are on)

    - siri - off

    - restrictions - on (ping set to off)

    - brightness - %50

    - location services - (camera, fousquare, maps, safari, find my iphone are all ON, rest including system services are off)

    - icloud - on (only for mail and contacts) (and I did what kunist said)

    - mail - all set to fetch 30min.

    -facebook removed account and app.

now this way it last more than half a day but still not a whole day. when it is locked it is ok, but when i use the phone for any simple task, i get %1down every 1-5 minutes (depending on what I do).

Tonight I will try "set as new phone" and will let you know the results by tomorrow. I have no hopes but I'll give it a try.

Current status: Usage: 4 hours,0 minutes

                          Standby: 6 hours, 46 minutes

                          Battery: %42

Very very very very light use of the phone.

I feel like I schedule another appt. to the Genius Bar. If your Genius was apologetic and very helpful (which it seems is the case) then I must've just gotten a dick. He never once apologized and said that he hadn't really heard of the problem. Never diagosed anything. All he did was a DFU restore and said it should work. Left me at that. It didn't, of course, but he never really seeemed interested in helping me figure out the problem, and also didn't seem to really know what he was talking about (I know some things too, Apple). I'm just tired of having to go through all this for a problem that wasn't even caused by me! Give me a break.

Just a follow up.  I did the suggestion on the reset all settings.  It took a while, but the battery life seems to be getting better.  Hope it holds, unlike the last time i thought this was fixed.

For my iphone 4, I turned off most 'push' technologies and iCloud safari and my phone stopped overheating and has battery drain more consistent with iOS 5.1.1 again.  Could it be the obsolescence factor?  If so, Apple, say it, give me a downgrade path, and for heavens sake, give us a way to ignore updates so the darn badge system goes away in iTunes notification!!!

Apple care plan is no cost for battery for 2 yrs. Regular warranty is 1 yr no cost.

Well I'm very frustrated. I just heard back from the Apple engineer or senior adviser from Apple that installed a battery log on my phone for 24 hours. I asked him for an update and he finally responded. Mind you, I told him that my phone was a brand-new replaced phone because of the battery drain issues. Below is his response.

"we saw nothing unusual in the logs indicating an excessive drain.

if you are still noticing battery drainage, I would suggest its time to replace the phone."

This is some scary stuff! Should I replace my phone again? I just replaced it about a month ago. I'm so frustrated! Does Apple even know what it's doing? And my understanding is that the latest 6.0.1 update didn't fix all the bugs it was supposed to. He also didn't even address the battery draining issues that they're aware of. This is really sad.

Apple! Please hear me! Your left hand doesn't know what your right hand is doing. This is so embarrassing for you. And it's frustrating for customers.

I also was losing battery life and found that FB was part of the problem. When I did the 6.0 update I started to lose time rapidly after a charge. I hoped the 6.0.1 would fix this. HAHA

I went into settings and scrolled down to facebook. After the 6.0 update, FB re-enabled the calendar and contacts. This syncs with the iCloud and saps the power. I then turned it off on my iPad. Phone, iPad, computer were all syncing to iCloud's contacts and calendar. I then went back to settings and checked every app in the list. Quite a few had re-enabled themselves after the update.

I charged my phone fully at 1:00 today, it is now 5:00 and it is still at 100%. Before I would have been at 90% or lower by now.

You have to go into every setting and find all the times that it will vibrate along with ring. I was using up my battery with all the vibrates. It even vibrated with the alarm clock. Only needs to vibrate in silent mode. This helped a lot.

You have 4 hours switched on yet still at 100%??

    That is extraordinary.

Sounds like Apple owes you a free replacement.  The "engineer" made it official.  Tell that to the Apple store and get a replacement.  Don't settle for less from these monkeys.

It is now 6:45 and it is still at 100% since 11:00 this morning. Haven't made a call, etc. but the other day it was dropping 10% every few hours w/o using it.
