I had the same problem on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I found in Calendar the iCloud sync was going almost permanently.

I was convinced that this is what was draining the battery and I read somewhere that the solution was to go the settings - icloud and turn off the affected services (in my case calendars and contacts), and select "delete from my phone"  when asked what to do with the calendars etc on your phone.

When you turn the service back on it re sync's the data from icloud and that solved the problem for me.

My battery on my 4S was draining at the rate of abt 30% every 8 hrs in Stand-by after having upgraded to ios 6.0.1!!. This morning I  connected the phone to my computer  and synced the phone with itunes and since charging my phone 9 hrs ago, it has only lost 3%!!!! I think this may have solved the problem.... I had upgraded to ios 6.0.1. wirelessly. I think I will definitely be upgrading through iTunes next time!

Did the DFU mode recovery this morning, seems to have resolved the problem, my iPhone has been on for 4 hours now and is still at 93%! Thank you for your help, I'm so glad to have a phone again lol

I did a full restore as a new device but I don't see any improvement. Same 1% drain for a minute of usage and phone getting hotter than usual. Starting to wonder if the problem is some hardware issue...Nothing from the ios settinsg doesn't seem to help.

I had long thought the issue with my battery drain was related to Safari, but I noticed today that my phone had run on while seemingly idle. Turns out someone had sent me a text message and I didn't notice it right away. During the time between when it arrived and when I actually brought the phone out of sleep mode and noticed it, the phone had been running on the usage meter the entire time, almost an hour! Not sure why it did that, but it drained 15% of my battery just sitting "idle" in my pocket. Maybe there's more to this battery issue for me than just Safari and iCloud?

    Hi Everyone,

Long story short, I purchased a 4s a month ago.  It was great until the 6.0 update.  Now my battery drains 1% every few minutes if I even use the phone.

I am wondering...who else here is on Verizon?  The reason I ask is because I went to Apple today and after some troubleshooting, gave me a new phone.  I was so happy.

Guess what - the phone was at 70% when I left and it is now at 49% 4 hours later without me even really using much but Safari.  I turned off push, haven't even added apps.

Is there any possibility that it is something with Verizon also?  I am beyond frustrated with this.

On a side note, my first phone was running the 6.0.1.  This one is running 6.0 and it still is terrible.

My iPhone 4s is also on Verizon, was having the same problems, phone would go dead in under 4 hours using nothing at all. I did the DFU restore fix on it yesterday and now it has a better battery life than when I first got the thing, I've been using it on the internet and playing games on and off with it all day, so far it has been 13 hours and it's still at 75% battery left. I would suggest that you try it (instructions on page 100 in the post by Player8) it certainly seemed to fix my phone so maybe it's worth a shot on yours.

Will the DFU work if my replacement phone came with 6.0 installed?

  • roseinthefall Level 1 Level 1

I recently restored my phone in DFU mode, I am not sure if this has fixed the drainage problem yet. I had no problems in 6.0 but 6.0.1 seems to have turned my battery into a gutted pig.

HOWEVER, while I was doing this restore, I decided to get my old android out so I could surf the web. My android was fully charged and working fine....

    Until I updated Facebook App

Then it suddenly started draining even faster than my 4S!! At 1% every three minutes, being used or not. Remember for a couple hours before this it was working perfectly normal!

Facebook App did roll out an update right around the time 6.0 and again when 6.0.1 I can't help but wonder if the two are related.

After reading all of your battery issues in iPhone 4/4S, I was thinking of having the same problem as you have guys have and was thinking twice before upgrading to ios 6.0.1. But fortunately seems much better for me (my iPhone 4, Over 1 year old).

    See screenshot above:

    Current Charge Level … 44%

    Usage… 3 Hours, 42 Mins

    Standby … 4 Days, 3 Hours

I'm begging someone to help me here. I've had 3 replacement 4S phones in 3 weeks and 7 restores that wiped the device (didn't restore from a backup). I got a new phone at 8pm and two hours later I'm down 35%, and that's with no apps, just contacts/notes etc.

    Things I've tried:

    -Turning off Cloud Safari sync

    -DFU restore

    -Turning off most location services

    -Turning off most notifications

    -Turning off push email notifications

    -Turning down screen brightness

    -Turning off Bluetooth

Right now, my phone is sitting next to me losing 1% every minute and it's really warm. I haven't plugged this in to my computer yet. I've been to the apple store 8 times in 3 weeks with a handful of calls to AppleCare and nobodys been able to fix it. This is insane. I just want a phone that lasts through the day A phone I could also have apps and music on would also be a huge plus since that's why I pay my expensive data plan!

I have Sprint service if that's a factor, but I never have less that 4 bars when I'm at work or my apartment.

If you have any ideas I would really appreciate it!!

If you've tried DFU restore as a "new phone" on your current phone and this problem has not been resolved can you:

    - let me know what iOS version you have? I presume iOS 6.0 or iOS 6.0.1?

    - Your email account is "Hotmail / Gmail / Microsoft Exchange" ?

    - You use calendars?

If so I would recommend downloading "Carat" app, you will need to let this run for a few days as it needs to log your details and provides you with a comparison between your devices battery usage against others.

With this app, you can turn of the location services for it, but don't kill the background process as its needs to log data over time.

For your information (and possibly a quick fix), I don't have battery issues but the "Carat" app it did pick up the following bugs in my iOS 6.0.1:

    - Siri (I've got raised to "Raised to Speak On"), looking at your config you most likely have all this turned off.

    - AppStore (Kill this process if its running in the background).

    - Camera.

    - MobileSlideShow.

    - Contacts.

    - Facebook.

Now I'm not saying they are the cause of your major battery drain but I did run all of them up and left them on in the background. Sure enough my phone started heating up, for those above apps there is reallly no fix except killing the background process once you've finished using the application...

I'm going to do more playing around with settings later to see if I can fix some of my issues, will report back.

Additionally it will be worth deleting and re-adding the email account to see if makes a difference.

  • hil123 Level 1 Level 1

I have a Gmail and AOL account and I'm using iOS6. And I do use calendars, that's one of the handful of things that pulled through with my contacts, reminders, notes and photo stream. I usually try to kill all my apps when I'm done with them, but I'll be sure to be careful about that. Is the app just the one called "Carat"?

    Link below:

I'm still experimenting with it, but those bugs I mentioned seemed to have resolved themselve ?... Need more time to log data.. Still a recommended download it as it will highlight whats causing your issue, but its a bit slow to give you results though!

Are you syncing contacts through to your iCloud as well? What else have you got switched on with your iCloud?
