Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

I took my 4S to the place where I bought it, since it was still covered by the warranty.

It was exchanged without, and I didn't even have to complain a lot.

I guess Apple knows that they've got a seriously bad situation re. the missing wifi and the battery drain.

They've ****.. up big time on this.

The Official Solution from an unnamed source within that fruit company in Cupertino:

The bug in iOS 6.1 is a ping-pong infinite loop trying to talk to the Exchange server. Unfortunately, just rebooting doesn't fix the issue. Deleting the account is necessary to remove the problematic invitation response from the queue.

The workaround is annoying, but effective:

- Delete your Exchange account

- Recreate the Exchange account

- Do not respond to meeting invitations from the device until 6.1.1 comes out.

Hi, I have an iPad 3. With iOS 5 battery performance was perfect. 2 hours of reading in the morning consumed 4-5 percents of battery charge.

A few days ago I updated to iOS 6.1.

I did a clean restore to iOS 6 through iTunes and then restored all my backup and apps.

Now battery decreases in front of my eyes!

I disabled Siri.

I don't think I have an exchange account (in Mail I have iCloud, GMail and work mail but I guess none of these use exchange).

What in iOS 6 could consume the battery so fast? It is 1 percent every 10 minutes I guess.

It is on the Dutch news now. Vodafone recognizes the problems. I have Vodafone.

iOS 6.1

Battery charged.

Set alarm last night.

Battery drained and alarm did not go off.

i have an iphone 4, i jailbroke it but i didnt like the jailbreak so i decided to restore... now im stuck on ios 6.1 and my battery life is going down 2 percent after playing 5 minutes of temple run... i could usually play for a good 10 or so minutes before this... and also i charged my phone and then unplugged it... i then left it on over night (on standby) and it says i've used the phone for 2 hours...

I officially hate apple and i know they wont fix this but... is there anything i can do? I mean is it possible for me to go back to ios 5 without the shsh blobs?

better than my ipod touch and its on ios 5.1.1... only wish i could go back to 5.1.1 on my phone

I had the same problem with my iPhone getting very warm and the battery draining quickly.  What eventually fixed it was doing a restore from iTunes back to a factory fresh image on the phone then installing apps and configuring the phone manually.  It's a pain, but it's the only thing that worked.  When I first tried to restore from backup after restoring it to like-new condition, the battery problem resurfaced.  I assume the problem existed in the backup file.

Bottom line - do a restore in iTunes and add the apps back manually.

Had a reeal battery drain issue after installin iOS6. Tries everything on the posts. It turned out my phone is synced to my work e-mail, calendar etc and for some reason in the course of 5 days 500,000 pings were made against my outlook calendar. I uninstalled then reinstalled the outlook account and solved the problem. BTW my iPad is also synced to my work account but it didn't have any issues with the upgrade.

I was running IOS 6.01 on my 4s while in India and the battery usage was like an hourglass dropping sand. I read about doing a reset>All Settings. Decided to wait until returned home because of not having my computer for rescue should I have needed. Yesterday I did reset then upgraded to IOS 6.1.

I don't know which operation made the difference, but my phone has been sitting for 24 hours and is still at 90%!

I am happy with the update.

My iphone 4S had some battery life left. Don't recall the exact %. Left it on my desk after using it.... Came back half hr later. The phone was very HOT and DEAD. Does not turn on. ***!!!

Unfortunately I have the same issue on my i4S with the poor battery performance..

Anyway I have realized that during call, when I changing the volume, the volume indicator is very choppy.

Another issue is with the automatic brightness, that is choppy too. . (After a clean install 6.1.1 problems still exists, except the battery issue, because I have no info about yet.)

I was in the Apple Store today, and had two smart-a-- techs tell me that I was crazy, and that my phone is fine.

(In my best Ace Ventura dialect, I said) "OhhhhhhRealllllllly?! 

"I went from a perfectly cool, perfectly reliable 24-hour or more charge duration, to not being able to go in to the OFFICE for 8-hours without a charger in my briefcase... unless I want to go home with a dead phone!  Oh, and did I mention [why yes I DID!] that this happened OVER-F--KING NIGHT!?"   Yes, OVER NIGHT." 

And not one but TWO Apple Bozos had the nerve to come out and tell me this is perfectly normal, checked my phone and said it passed all diagnostics, and... here's the kicker... wait for it......  "Forums?  Forums?  WE don't listen to no stinkin' FORUMS?  What do FORUM-users know anyway?  Why would we care about what kind of experience our F---KING CUSTOMERS are having with our products?! Anyway, we haven't heard ANYTHING on any of the forums that we don't pay any attention to, about the ONE-HUNDRED AND 34 FUC--ING PAGES OF FORUM COMMENTS ABOUT OS6 BURNING UP EVERYONES' iPhone4."

What the **** is WRONG with you PEOPLE?  Did you all just stand around waiting for Steve to die, and then ALL sign up for ******* classes at the same time?  Customer Service, people.  It's WHY YOU HAVE a JOB! Do not make the mistake of assuming that every balding, 50-something year old fellow who comes into your store is a techno-FOOL. 

If you don't want to admit that YOUR PEOPLE did something to cause this problem with my phone, I can even understand that a little bit... but do NOT **** down my back and tell me it's RAINING!  I know when my phone is running so hot that I can't bear to hold it in my hand, even without any aps running at all (ALTHOUGH before I loaded iOS6.1 I ran location services all the time on several geofence and map aps, and STILL got 24-hours plus from a charge... EVERY SINGLE DAY!)  I don't even care if you don't want to have to FIX it for free!  But do NOT stand there with that smartassed grin on your face, and look at me with disdain while you tell me that my phone is not screwed up when my I know that it is.

The new Droids are looking better and better to me!  When my iPhone gets to where a charge only lasts for 4 hours, I'm headed down to the Phone store to buy a couple, or THREE, for the price of this ONE piece of iPhone kindling wood.

Been watching this forum since the beginning, and was afraid to update my 4S (14 months old) and stayed on 5.1.1. When people started to write in saying things had improved, and when a couple friends updated with no problem, and knowing I had no Exchange email, I finally updated from 5.1.1 to 6.01 two days ago, Sunday afternoon. Noticed a slightly faster battery drain than normal. Did a reset all settings, and then couldn't connect to wifi. Did a restore from iCloud, which fixed the wifi, but same battery usage. The very next day found out 6.1.1 came out, so I uncharacteristically took it right away. It's lost 4% in the last hour since unplugging it, just from checking weather, settings, calendar. On 5.1.1 it would stay at 100% until I started texting or making calls. Playing Words or Scramble With Friends has always killed the battery pretty fast; now it's a bit faster. Phone is not heating up. Unless it gets really bad, I simply refuse to turn it into a dumb phone by turning off all functionality, so BT, location, etc. all the same. Email was always set to manual fetch.

So from 5.1.1 to 6.1, slightly more battery drainage. From 6.1.1, same.

I appreciate all the great info you all have shared.
