Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

Also, can someone explain to me how this usage calculator works. I unplugged it 12 hours ago  @100% and now it states that it has been in standby for 12hr 2min and had 3hr 45min of use since last charge. How can that be?

Count me in... Battery drains about twice as fast after the update.  I'll try the safari disable fix for work tomorrow.

    Try these settings...

Go to Settings -> Notifications -> change the notifications to only the ones you want.

Go to Settings -> General -> About -> Advertising -> Limit Ad Tracking -> On.

    Go to Settings -> General -> About -> Diagnostics & Usage -> Don’t Send.

Go to Settings -> General -> Privacy -> Location Services -> edit for everything you want.

Go to Settings -> General -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services -> Location-Based iAds off.

Go to Settings -> iCloud -> off for everything

Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar -> Fetch New Data -> Push -> Off.

Go to Settings -> iTunes & App Stores -> turn off automatic downloads.

Go to Settings -> Safari -> Advanced -> Website Data -> Clear website data.

And again, delete the YouTube folder in safari bookmarks.

I shouldn't have to turn things off that worked in iOS 5!! Unacceptable!

    I wish Apple would:

    1) Provide  a means for us to go back to iOS5 -- right now!

    2) Longer term, acknowledge the problems and provide us with an estimated time of arrival for a fix.

Leaving us hanging out here with phones that don't work properly, are eating up folks' data plans with mysterious transmissions, and remaining silent as if nothing is wrong is just plain terrible.

Need to vent as well: took my 4S from the charger (100%) at 11am and am down to 9% at 6.10pm writing 4 iMessages, downloading an app and checking mail occasionally... count me in with all those who live the illusion of having had more than a day of battery time with iOS5...

Same here... My battery drains super fast now: literally 10% in 15 minutes of browsing this forum.

Guys I find this humiliating to buy a $500 phone and turn off its functions just to get a battery life back. I'm switching to Android, good buy Apple.

I had the same issue.  OTA upgrade on Thursday.  I was losing 10% every 10-15 minutes.  I tried everything on the forum, disabling this, removing that.  All of which basically rendered the "smart" phone useless.  And all of which didn't help anything.  Charged the phone over night to 100%.  Drove to work and sent 1 text message.  30 minutes later I was down to 87%.  I finally did a complete restore and set up as a new phone.  Charged the phone to 100% before I left work.  3 hours later and I'm still at 96%.  Of course now I have to go through and completely recustomize my phone which I'm not too happy about.  Hours and hours of work all because Apple obviously didn't test their product before releasing.   But for anyone out there having the same issue at least you know that someone out here had a little success.  GIANT FAIL for Apple.

    Hi,

How is your phone now after the complete restore? Didnt your settings come back after restore?

Am I the only one that finds it counterintuitive that the main ways to "fix" your phone is turn off features that make your phone a smart phone in the first place!? Why do I have to cripple my device just so it won't die in the middle of the day? Can we just agree that we don't need anymore devices or operating systems that use more power than is available? There HAS to be a better solution to this. I'm tired of this same problem...

That would be a restore from backup not a restore to original factory settings.

I believe you have one of the most intelligent response in this thread.
