Sep 27, 2012 1:49 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by jasonfromdes moines,I have tried everything from turning off all location base, notifications, email to manually for the last 5 days.....nothing worked. I deleted twitter and the facebook app to see if it was that...it's wasn't. I slowly turned things back on over a few days and barely have a improvement in battery life but nothing significant to where I'm holding a 8 hour charge from minimal usage. I then did a full delete and restore from icloud yesterday (when I first set up my iphone it was from itunes back up) and I had a slight improvement in battery life but nothing compared to my iphone 4 (still losing about 20% of batterylife every 45 mins). I checked my cellular usage and it says that I have 11 days of lifetime? I got the phone at noon on 09/21/12 which is only 6 days ago from today. Image attached.
I'm taking in my iphone 5 into my local apple genius to get it fixed and hopefully replaced.

Yes, turn it off, it will definitely help. You really don't need that. You only need that when you need to restore. I don't see the sync or restore needed for safari data. Perhaps, someone will, but I think most people don't need that!

Sep 27, 2012 1:55 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by T-iRock,Like most everyone else here, my 4s is having battery drain problems since the IOS6 update. Prior to the update, my phone would be down to maybe 50% after using it all day, or about 12 hours. Same amount of usage now and it's down to about 50% in less than 6 hours and completely dead by 9. 30 minutes after a full charge it's down to 92%. Is there any confirmation from Apple on whether this is related specifically to the new IOS or if it is specifically related to some new "feature" the upgrade turned on? This is both annoying and pathetic. I've tried a few of the things others have said fixed their problem but none have worked so-far. I'll try more of them and if any do work, I'll post back.

Sep 27, 2012 2:05 PM in response to homeflashby ChicagoBubba,Homeflash:
People need to realize that every person uses their iPhone differently, so what one person gets from a battery can be dramatically different from the next, all depending on the amount use and the typing activity performed. Not realizing this means a person expects the same battery life as the next and that is not ever going to happen.
The point here is that we are following a thread that's now over 40 pages long, and those of us who have the same issue as the original poster means that we know what we were getting from battery life prior to iOS 6 and what battery life we've lost after the update. Some here posting in this thread are clueless and should open a new thread with their questions that don't relate to the OP!
Have a nice day and let's hope Apple fixes this issue soon, because right now some report Apple is aware and others report they have not been made aware of any such issues. Well, there's an issue and none of the "fixes" posted here cured my battery drain problem.

Your last post was a little better, at least not sarcastic about "love people posting about ....."---really love?!
And you basically answered part of the questions yourself.. People use it differently, normality is depended on how people use. That is why people post and ask and compare. Let's say you use it 3 days without charge while He uses 3 charges within a day, then we have to look at what's wrong, is it location service, is it video, is it gaming and so on.
That is why many people post how they use, and feeling this is abnormal. As a matter of fact, if not the battery drain, I didn't notice about how fast the battery goes.... .. Just few seconds ago, Baphil1 asks about carrier, good question... I don't think it is about carrier, you leave it as WIFI, it drains the same thing.
By the way, I know this is 40 pages long.. and many of us post few times, You can't expect everyone reads through all 40 pages from start!! So, I say, by all means, post how you use, your problem, your iphone model, your carrier, anything that is not "NORMAL" to you. Just ask away.. Many people may not be able to help, but at least we know that is not "OUR" problem, it is Apple's problem. Sometimes, people feel better just because they are not alone!...
So, saying people should know their phone is really a non-constructive but foolish statment!

Sep 27, 2012 2:38 PM in response to homeflashby T-iRock,homeflash, I understand where you are coming from but I think that chicago makes a valid point in that most all of us who have posted all know how we were using our phones before the update and how that usage related to the average amount of battery that was available after a day's worth of using it. If nothing about the way we use our phone has changed, other than the IOS update, then the update, or something new to it that Apple has turned on/off is the problem and Apple needs to fix the frickin problem. I expect the battery life to be the same or better than before an IOS version update and not far worse without any way to fix it other than a complete wipe and restore. What a huge PITA that is and it's simply not acceptable or, in many cases with novice users, not doable.

First of all, I hate when people say "I know where you are coming from..." (another scaratic (sp) statement)
I mean, if you do, then you know where all the posters are coming from. Then what is the point of posting support to others.. ?! And Chicago does not have a valid point. The reason..
1. this is new IOS, How would people know their phone with all those new features? Is it normal to ask that maybe those features caused the battery to drain so quickly?
2. As I have mentioned before, I am sure many people didn't probably notice how they use the phone until they see it drain quickly3. Think about this, how come all of a sudden people come to realize the battery drain so quickly?! NO, not the way we use our phones. We never turned off location service, we never set brightness to max. Those are there already. We expect to be better, not worse. We should not twist our use to accommodate the new updates. It should be the another around
Yes, it is Apple's fault not to make thorough testiing before releasing the updates. I think that is really stupid to do that. They know people have old phone, 4, 4s and new phone. Why release so quickly. I understand that turn off this or turn off that may help. But that really defeats the purpose of having them there...
I guess they like versions 6.0.1. 6.0.2, etc...

Sep 27, 2012 3:03 PM in response to homeflashby T-iRock,homeflash - Do you just argue for the sake of arguing or are you just awful at reading comprehension? You slap down folks for not contributing anything helpful and then you post the BS you just lashed back at me with?
Fine. You win, homeflash. You are the all knowing king of this thread. We all hail to your infinite iWisdom.

Sep 27, 2012 3:09 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by Khoolman,I too am currently working with Apple to monitor battery usage to hopefully identify what's going on and why some people are having issues and others are not.
I can say, as I have already posted earlier in this thread, that doing a Factory reset and setting up as a new phone has fixed the issue.
It's not as big a job to do as it sounds. I simply did a sync with my iCloud account and all contacts, notes, calendars and tasks where quickly reinstated. Other app files were backed up to Dropbox or iCloud, and again, I simply reconnected a nod imported the files back in to the phone. A bit time consuming, but otherwise has been a smooth operation.
A big plus is that I have killed off heaps of apps that I didn't really use - very cathartic and now my iPhone (and iPad) are lean and clean and generally feel snappier.
I have gone a couple of days now without charging and recon I'm good for a few more hours yet. Normal use.
I WOULD ENCOURAGE OTHERS READING THIS THREAD TO SAVE YOURSELVES SOME TIME IN EXPERIMENTING WITH TURNING THIS OFF AND THE THAT AND JUST GO STRAIGHT FOR THE FRESH INSTALL!
For the record, I'm using Safari and all localisation services and wifi with no issues.

Another sarcastic statement! I am not here to win an argument
People come here for support, not to hear about sarcastic statement
You and Chicago sounded like people should not come to
Post at all...... If so, don't comment about anything

Sep 27, 2012 3:20 PM in response to T-iRockby ChicagoBubba,Joining a thread 40 pages in without knowing what the topic is, or has become, then blindly introduces an issue that sounds similar but is competely irrelavent to the continuing topic is completely absurd. I'm sorry I noticed, but I am following this thread as I have posted earlier that I have the same issue as the original poster, not here to fish for answers to seperate issues.
BACK ON THE ORIGINAL TOPIC:
All the people posting that a fresh install fixes the battery problem only creates a new problem. Some of us don't want to wipe out our settings and app data. The iPhone, as with any other smartphone, is not much different than a desktop or notebook, and very few of us wouldn't want to wipe our harddrives bacause of an OS update. It's completely unacceptable in this day and age, and we are stabbing in the dark for a fix. Apple needs to address this issue soon!!
