Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

Sorry, forgot one thing, which I need to add to my post above - it had been WORSE...

I was affected by a - imho - heavy battery drainaige directly after the upgrade to iOS6. My iPhone's battery was empty at lunchtime. With the same amount of usage BEFORE the update, I still had minumum 20 - 30% of battery left in the EVENING. So, I followed some measures suggested in this thread like restoring (though not as a new iPhone), switching off things, that were active during "5.1.1-times", recalibration of battery etc.

All in all, with those measures taken, I ended up with a bit longer battery life, as you might see in my above description.

What strikes me, though, are the results, that I got with the latest, abovementioned test, where I have no clue, why my iPhone would drain battery the way it does....

I'm with you in this. Facebook integration really drains the battery.

You still can use facebook just do not log in under IOS. Here is what I did.

Goto- setting - Facebook. Turn off calender, contacts and Facebook. The IOS Facebook remain log in. Dont have to log out. So that the only Facebook integrated with ISO is the notification tap to post. Oh and photo shares still works.

Then Goto - setting-privacy-Facebook. Make sure access Facebook account is OFF.

Now Goto Facebook app. Log off and log in again with your email log in. That's it.

Turn off that, then that and essentially you end up with a NOKIA for 500+ pounds... Try DFU Reset apparently it helps, I`ve just done it.. battery seems to drain 1% per 3 minutes on youtube via 3g... But will see how it does throughout the day.

i did a dfu reset last night, then restored backup - made no difference

i can't be doing with putting everything back on manually as i have over 100 apps

have turned off all the facebook integration, so will see if that makes a difference

Nothing seems to work. I want to shoot iOS 6. It's the worst update ever. How can I go back to iOS 5?

I have tried every suggestion on this string and nothing seems to work:

    1) Updated to ios6 OTA. Experienced battery drain issues - Turned almost everything off, including exchange, safari, facebook, location services, etc, etc. etc. etc. etc.to no avail.

    2) Restrored phone to factory settings via DFU (Apple Genius did it the store for me while I waited).Probem persists except now standby drain is reduced.

    3) Restored via backup from from ITunes. No change.

    4) Restored phone to fatory settings via DFU (Apple Genius once again did it in the store for me while I waited) and am running clean ios6. No apps have been installed and I have only used safari. Battery drain still exits, even in standby unless I reboot the phone after using a program or charging.

Apple Genius told me it was not a software issue and I am the only one with this problem. He thinks its hardware related and it was only a coincidence that my battery draining and heating issues (phone gets way too hot during use or charging) started to occur after upgrading to ios6.

I plan on going back today and asking for technical support.

I have the same problem with much reduced battery life after upgrading my 4s to ios 6.  I can see the battery percentage go down at 1% every one or two minutes, usually having ~4 hours "usage" when the battery is down to 1%.  I have tried 2 itunes restores "as new phone".  The second appears to be a little better, but still far below what it was on 5.1.1.  I really wish I could downgrade back to that.  I'm on AT&T and I live in a 1-3 bar area of 4G coverage.  I sure miss my decent  battery life.

I did turn those sliders off when I first signed into Facebook.  It doesn't seem to be helping.  But thanks for the suggestion.

I talked to a Senior Advisor at Apple and had them troubleshoot my iPhone 4S with iOS 6 and the battery issue and we came to the conclusion that it IS a problem with iOS 6 and he said to wait till the next update is released.  He gave no ETA on the next update but did tell me he would call me as soon as he hears anything about it.

There really is NO fix for it right now.  We tried everything and nothing changed.

This is the info I've been looking for. So Apple IS aware of the battery problem; it is indeed an issue with iOS 6, and we can assume they're working on it for the next update.

Luckily, though I've been tempted, I have not updated to 6 on my 4s. I'll sit tight until they've fixed it.
