Sep 29, 2012 1:23 PM in response to jtragby Maine Guy,I also went to the Genius Bar today, and explained the issue. He said the battery seemed healthy (he used some software), but he changed out the battery for a new one. So far it seems the same. I'll have to use it a few days to see if it makes any difference, I guess.

Sep 29, 2012 3:36 PM in response to Maine Guyby Racko,All,
I was experiencing the same issues, exessive battery drain, after updating to iOS6. As I it has happened before, I knew I would have to do a restore as a new phone to be able to get rid of any corrupt files. Since I did so, my battery has gone back to normal.

Sep 29, 2012 4:15 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by ChicagoBubba,I just noticed a new problem that might be another contributor to my battery drain issue: my 4S is not auto-locking in 1 minute as I have it set. That along with the auto-brightness not working properly I am thinking the upgrade via USB/iMac method was faulty. This issue is not just for the OTA folks. Btw, I've removed my Exchange mailboxes and didn't see any improvement. Still waiting for an update before I do any resets or revert to iOS 5.1.1. Hurry up Apple, you've crippled my iPhone 4S for more than a week now.

Sep 29, 2012 4:18 PM in response to ChicagoBubbaby Racko,Restore your OS and start as a new phone. Do not restore from back up. You'll be able to download all your purchases via itunes or app store later. It should fix most problems.

Sep 29, 2012 4:24 PM in response to Rackoby ChicagoBubba,Why should we have to that do?! I'm not willing to part my user app data just yet, some of its too important to just forget. If I want to setup as a new iPhone I would have bought a 5.

Sep 29, 2012 4:46 PM in response to ChicagoBubbaby netsoup,I agree. It is good to know that nuking it to a clean install may fix it if you're willing and want to figure it out, but it's very non-Apple to leave people hanging.
Customers trust Apple and do zero-day updates much more than other companies because we trust Apple to make it right quick, at least I do. I know applying any update day-one makes you a little bit of a beta tester "pioneer", simulations and prep only take you so far. So far for me, I do hold Apple to a little higher standard and I know they expect it too since that's one of the things you pay for going Apple. Come on Apple, let us know you actually acknowledge this issue and are on it. I know all 1.0 versions have some kinks, but this is important.
No WiFi or Maps issues here. All else is great for me actually.

Sep 29, 2012 5:08 PM in response to ChicagoBubbaby Racko,You're not going to lose anything, except for your text messages. You can always back up your pictures and the like. Your emails, if you use any of the common services (gmail, icloud), will be there when you reestablish your accounts in the phone.
I know it shouldn't have to be like this, but you have the option to stay suffering because of poor battery life or take a few extra steps to fix it. I'm not trying to defend anyone here; all I'm trying to do is help a fellow in need.

Sep 29, 2012 5:33 PM in response to Rackoby ChicagoBubba,Not true. Many stand alone apps have user created data stored in the app that cannot be restored if the app is removed then reinstalled, and the same can be true for many, many games (albeit games are slightly less important, but it still stinks to have played something or a year and then lose all progress).

Sep 29, 2012 5:42 PM in response to ChicagoBubbaby netsoup,I understand. Some comics I have "save states" of what I read and where I'm at. Restoring from scratch almost always loses something, even if it remembers what you own and dowloads it all new.
I plunged in knowing it's not the end of the world if my zero-day upgrade had some bugs.
Still, if you've been synching with iTunes, has ANYONE noticed this issue persisting if you just restore iOS5 from backup?
