Sep 30, 2012 9:13 AM in response to Headhunter06by davaela,1% for 10-15 minutes? This is 16-25 hours of constantly browsing? How can it be possible? My iPhone 4s drain 1% for 7-8 minutes with low brightness and airplane mode on.

Sep 30, 2012 9:30 AM in response to davaelaby Headhunter06,Not kidding on the 1% in 10-15 mins. But thats about what I got in iOS 5.1.1. I'll do a little more unscientific meter watching and let you know. What I can say is that I've had the phone off the charger now since 9am (3 hours) and used it fairly heavily in Chrome and still have 95%. I have not done any phone calls or texts yet today and have iCloud on only for contacts and notes, and location services on only for maps, Chrome and an aviation flight planning app I use for work. So I'll happily admit the jury is still out on my "Chrome fix". Under iOS I routinely ended my day at 11PM with 85% remaining, but I am a light user who mostly checks e-mail, news, and maybe does a couple of 2 minute phone calls or texts per day.

Sep 30, 2012 10:04 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by AWArea51,I am one of the lucky ones who rolled back to 5.1.1 before the signing window expired so I am unable to really comment or test further on the battery drain issue (main reason why I did roll back to 5.1.1). I have continued to follow this and several other threads with the hope that Apple will take notice and start to investigate, etc.
Today, as I checked over my bookmarked searches relating to battery drain with iOS 6, I came across this news story -
What’s Behind Mysterious Cellular Data Usage in iOS 6?
http://tidbits.com/article/13304
Interesting - if the phone is constantly transmitting data, its going to contribute to battery drain.
I am glad to see that a few sites are starting to run battery drain focused news articles (the more public commentary on news sites, the better as Apple will have to take notice):
iOS 6 Update : iPhone 4 & 4S Users have found Excessive Battery Drain

Really need to keep pushing this issue folks. If you haven't already done so, send Apple feedback via the feedback form and let them know you are not happy with the battery drain issue - the form is here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Sep 30, 2012 10:58 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by myitguy,I tried various actions: 1) New install from iTunes (originally did OTA update) 2) Turned off notifications that I didn't need. Particulary apps that do continous notifications 3) Ended up installing Carat to try and pin down processes that are CPU consuming.
I have found when my iPhone 4s is draining rapidly there is usually some process coming resources MobileSMS has been high on the list. When I see this App using up resources I close it and reopen it and my phone cools off.
I am frustrated with this because I would like to run something like "top" that shows memory and CPU usage and allows me to pinpoint the problem. There are a lot of processes running on the iPhone and it is difficult to determine how much turning off things like Siri or Location Services helps in memory and CPU usage.
Ha. Guess if I jailbreak my phone I might get some insight on what the problem is.

Sep 30, 2012 11:01 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by nmiah,Hey Guys
Just an update I was also contacted by Apple today after my post on this discussion forum and they have also got me to install a battery profile on my iPhone 4S so that they can track how the battery on my phone is affected. Just to those who are becoming frustrated with Apple not responding just know that they are actually reading the posts to try and work out what is causing the battery drain and I'm pretty sure they're working on a fix. I guess we just have to be patient until the next update is out.

Sep 30, 2012 11:41 AM in response to nmiahby netsoup,That is awesome. I've thought Apple's committment to their customers and to provide a refined experience is what makes them different. I hate to say it, but there are so many bashers who've never used an iPhone or Mac that dump and look down on people for paying extra for anything, and one of the things I know I am paying for is supported updates and that committment to make things right when they mess up.
I was really hoping they weren't going to prove me wrong on this, though I know, in perspective it was a just few days with horrible battery life, and adjusting and resetting some settings seems to have fixed it. Them making this right for the majority who applied their official update, and not just the geeks or those who shell out extra is one of the reasons I recommend some people trying their products though, so I was worried about looking foolish... My mom lives in another state and has been avoiding smartphones like the plague, but she has needs it will meet, and I so want to put her on an iPhone5 and trust she won't have to fiddle with a lot of settings to get a good experience. Selfish and stubborn, I know

Sep 30, 2012 11:48 AM in response to bill billybobby geordyvarghese, when i am using my phone in wifi its not draining too much. but in celluar network its draining too fast...

Sep 30, 2012 12:47 PM in response to geordyvargheseby rmadera,I charged my iPhone 4S to 100% yesterday around 5 PM. It's now 3:45 PM and I've been using it mainly for checking news, Safari, etc. I used it on Wifi until it got to 50% and then 3G until it got to 1%. I ended up having 5 hours and 35 minutes of Usage time and 1 day Standby. Can anyone tell me if this is considered "normal" battery life? Thanks.

Sep 30, 2012 12:55 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by scifi597,I had same problem with iPhone 4 and 4s my wife's iPhone 4 was not affected. I found out turning wifi off worked so I turned everything in my settings and notifications off and then duplicated my wife's settings I have 18 apps that I had to keep off. Everything now is fine. I just need to do one at a time with these apps one is Facebook one is mail and another is mail notification. So whether or not it's one of these l18 left I will find out in a few days. It's like playing conflict catcher. Or just turning everything off and then back on solve it. We will find out but it's good to get my phone back.

Sep 30, 2012 4:12 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by Donald M. Filicetti,Well I recieved a telephone call from Apple as some others have. They asked me to install a battery logging monitor on my iPhone and I agreed. The AppleCare person I spoke to was very nice and gave me the impression that Apple is wokring very hard on this issue and taking it very seriously. It made me feel a lot better that our pleas and frustrations aren't being ignored. He didn't ask me to cripple my phone to get decent battery life or change any settings. In fact he wants me to use the phone the way I would normally use the phone or WANT to use the phone using the settings I would typically use and then send them the results in a few days. This bodes well for an iOS 6 incremental release that will hopefully help this battery issue that so many of us are having. I feel much better and less frsutrated although I am sure it will still be a few weeks at least before we get the "fix".
I know others have been asked to install the battery logging monitor on their phones so the more data Apple collects from people the better it will be for ALL of us in the long run. I know it's still going to be rough for a bunch of us for the forseeable future but let's at least give Apple credit for working to fix this issue. It would help if they publicly admitted there is an issue wiht the battery life like Tim Cook did with his Maps app mea culpa but at least they are actively reaching out to people and admitting there is an issue to be fixed. Good luck.

Sep 30, 2012 4:31 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by Jim P,I got an update pushed ( from Verizon)to my Verizon iPhone 5 earlier this afternoon. It did require a restart to the phone. Not sure what it did but I have noticed a huge difference in my battery drain issue. Only have lost 5% from the battery in a little over 5 hours of use. Not sure if this update really did anything or if it was some of the other changes I had made to the settings.

Sep 30, 2012 7:06 PM in response to Greg Bastug1by alxdc,One Question,
Doesn't any Apple staffs, or Apple customer service uses Iphone 4s, Iphone 4 with IOS 6.0?
HELLO!!! APPLE!!!!!..................!!!!

Sep 30, 2012 8:01 PM in response to alxdcby Headhunter06,As several have noted on this forum, Apple has contacted several of the people who have posted to discuss the issue and install diagnostic software. To me, that means Apple is working on it quickly. With luck, an update will be out soon. But I'd rather they do a thorough investigation and a full test of the update, so that the problem is truly fixed. That will take at least some time. Like you, I wish my phone was perfect on day one with iOS 6. But I am confident a fix will arrive in the not too distant future.
