Q: iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

By the time I login to  Apple community and reply to the forum ,

I lose 3% of battery life,

Battery life has worsen by updating to IOS 6 in my iPhone 4S ,

I have a iPod touch probably I wouldn't update it to IOS 6,

Dear Apple Engineers I am sure you would resolve the issue , but just make it fast.

I know there are 54 pages on here, but I wish people would read them and stop repeating the same thing over and over. It takes ages to read all the posts and my email is clogging up like crazy. I am reading all the posts in case there is something from Apple.

Apple is trying to figure it out.

Please read and follow what poeple have done, or just sit tight and monitor the results of the testing.

    Thanks

    Deb

For what it is worth, I have been battling this for a week and finally found something that works.

My phone was completely draining within 4-5 hours without usage.  I have tried turning off Siri, location services, bluetooth, all apps from the multi-task bar etc - all to no avail.  I have done full drains and recharges, numerous resets and finally a full restore.  No change.

Turning off push emails however, did the trick, the battery is back to normal

    I have a potential fix!

This fixed a little glitch in my battery and now i'm getting much longer life than i was with IOS 5.

Let your battery drain completely and plug it in to the wall, not into a computer or a docking station but directly into a wall.

Leave it to charge, when it turns itself back on, turn it back off.

I left mine for atleast 4 hours and haven't had a problem since.

Do this once a month even if your not having problems with the battery to prolong its overall life.

Please take a look at the following link.  You will see my response to someone else yesterday.  If you follow the same steps, you should see a dramtic increase in your battery life.  Just remember...  Everything your ask your phone to do, is going to drain your battery... even apps in use that your not actually using...  Good luck!!  Cheers!

Off road, what we are reporting here is that the battery has started to drain much faster AFTER the ios6 upgrade with the same installed apps setting and usage style while on ios5. !! !!

@Neil.Glasgow: Why plug into the wall and not the computer for recharging?

*** last post on this topic*** Genius appointment 9/29, did a DFU reset and offered a new battery. Declined new battery because purchased phone on 9/7 and was perfect on 5.1 ... Wanted new phone but they said a new 4s would now be pre-installed with 6.0 .... Yeah, ok .... Apple contacted me 9/30 because of this thread... did the battery logger profile and sent the info to rep last night 10/1.... Rep told me they are aware and that is why they are gathering all the different profiles so the engineers can isolate the issue/issues and send out an update...

Please note: none of the fixes worked for me so I guess I carry a charger until this problem is worked out by Apple. Like all of you, I really hope this is fixed sooner than later or this will be my first and last iphone...

Good luck to all of you

Someone told me years ago that plugging it in to the wall is more beneficial than to a computer or docking station. I don't know how true it is but i've always stuck with the wall when i recharge my iPad and iPhone every month

I hate to hear this.  I'm shocked at the battery issues that I am having with iOS6.  I remember having similar issues when iOS5 came out, but they released an update within days that fixed the issue.  When is the first update going to come out for this one?  Apple, the reason I have an iPhone over the other brands is that my iPhones have always just "worked."  Sadly, I can't say that anymore.  Buggy software, battery issues, and a lackluster camera are not beating the competition.  If I had the choice, I know I wouldn't buy an iPhone 5...nor would I replace my 4s.  Methinks the shine is beginning to come off of the Apple...

I was talking with my wife last night and told her the same thing. She is having the battery issues with her 4S while my 4S seems fine. We have also had issues with syncing icloud photostreams and I lost bluetooth control with my car stereo after the update. I told her I was very frustrated with apple after this update and no iPhone 5, ever. If I upgrade when it's time it will be an Android phone.

Yes,Apple! - better wake up & get your act right or else you have more converts to your dear foe, Samsung! I've all the classic IOS6 upgrade problems on my 4S - battery draining super fast, auto lock getting temperamental, phone heats up etc. Not sure what bloopers Apple intends to roll out with8 the new IOS6 - one thing for sure, I'll consider the Samsungs if they don't get their act right soon!

Well I went to apple store with several problems including battery drain, they replaced my iphone 4s 64gb with identical one, but with 5.1.1 IOS... I havent upgraded and now I have 4 hours usage and 6 hours of standby and I am on 60% atm... I mean I wasnt doing much heavy usage, Music a bit of 3g internet, but I did update quite a lot of apps on 3g, probably 1 hour worth of constant downloading. Location services are on, siri is on, pretty much everything is on apart from email update, which I set to manual.

Before I couldnt get past 2 hours.

So thumbs up to apple care, I know I wouldnt get that with Samsung  so I guess 700 quid did not go down the drain. Dont forget that apple products hold their value unlike Android, you can sell your 1 year old 4s if its in good condition and 32gb+  for similair price of a new GS3.. A year on, GS3 will be forgotten with updates and will be worthless...

I am not an apple fanboy and I only own Iphone from apple products, but there is some sense in apple. However there was much more sense before Android came along....

Apple rep would have gave me a new phone because my purchase date was 9/7and purchased Apple Care. However, she stated all 4s's they had were post 6.0 and had 6.0 already loaded. She also stated I would have to wait for sales to come in, which was another  hour, to check this, then get management approval..... Honestly homeflash, I was beyond frustrated and wasn't going to waste my day there. I guess I am lucky because the retailer gave me until 10/6 and he would swap out iphone to any other phone (except another iphone) ....
