Sep 20, 2012 9:30 AM in response to KC7GNMby abyssunderground,Yes it's an app for tracking yourself/friends. It's only supposed to update when it detects that you've moved and then updates every few minutes, but the phone hasn't left my desk all day. I guess it needs an update for iOS 6 to work properly. In the 25 mins journey home I used 2% battery, which on 3g data I'd expect.
Looks like my problem is solved. For anyone else I suggest checking to make sure you too aren't using latitude and forgot about it before you updated.

Sep 20, 2012 9:36 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by Gar bear,I agree, updated before bed time. Had 100% woke up to 54%. Read the news paper online and answered a few text messages and got a 20% battery warning. Just lost 7% reading this post. WOW!!!

Sep 20, 2012 9:39 AM in response to Gar bearby TheycallmeTheSloth,I had the same issues with my battery draining fast after upgrading to iOS 6. Tried rebooting my phone but still drained quickly. I turned off location services and it stopped draining so quickly. After I confirmed it was running normally, I turned location services back on and battery usage is still normal.

Sep 20, 2012 9:44 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by dotscott,My iPhone 4S is draining the battery at a much faster rate then normal as well. Also it is getting very warm to the touch.
For those who think these are imagined symptoms:
I installed iOS 6 last night. Played with new features last night. Charged the phone over night. Took it off the charger around 6am this morning by 10:30am I was down to 40% battery life. I had checked email briefly and sent one text message. I did not recieve any calls, did not watch any videos or listen to music. It's been sitting on my desk while I work.
Just because I'm having these problems doesn't mean I like Apple any less. I just want people to know that they're not alone, others are having these issues. I contacted Apple and installed diagnostic tracking software to help them resolve the issues. Hopefully Apple will fix these problems soon.

Sep 20, 2012 9:54 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by Smesser,I was able to resolve the battery drain problme on an iPhone 4s by turning off Cellular Data. I tried turning off other apps first - bluetooth, WiFi, Siri but nothing worked. Obviously this is not a good workaround unless you are connected to WiFi.

Sep 20, 2012 10:02 AM in response to Smesserby rod.gui,Smesser -> I did this yesterday. I turn off Cellular Data (3g + edge) and my phone went back to normal battery.
I turned off the 3g + edge last night at around 11:00 pm and this morning (08:00 am) I still had 100% battery.

Sep 20, 2012 10:09 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by Samboyd,I have left my phone I'm my locker fr two hours and from 100% it's now at 80% when it used to only drain 7% in six hours with moderate use, hay have to charge my battery half way through the day having done nothing, already turned off my location services and killed all background programs

Sep 20, 2012 10:16 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by David Dodge,My 4s went from 100% to 17% in 5 hours with very modest use. I don't see a solution yet but will try resetting my settings. This is nasty.

Sep 20, 2012 10:17 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by chiefzelda,I'm having problems as well. I was on the GM version and lost 2 and half hours of battery usage pretty much then what I had on iOS 5.1.1. I just did a restore with the public release as a new iPhone to see if the problem is coming from my backup. I'll test the "new" battery life without my backup before restoring. But this battery drain is quite annoying...

Also any apps that have not been updated to iOS6 yet could be suspect too.

Did you do a reset of the phone? Usually that fixes a lot of problems. I alwas do a reset after an update.

Sep 20, 2012 10:42 AM in response to Greg Bastug1by preludio,My 4S is draining incredibly fast, and it is warm, too.
This morning it went from 88% to 49% in two hours -- on standby! I didn't use the phone at all, and it dropped tremendously.
I've tried resetting it and turning of location services: no change.
I also noticed some differences in the auto-brightness behavior. Sometimes too bright, othertimes too dim. And slow response to sensing a different lighting condition.
It could be iOS 6 (as most people here seem to presume), or it could be a newly-updated app. With the new iPhone coming on Friday, there have been a flurry of updated apps. Possibly one of those is responsible for the bad behavior. Hard to diagnose it, though!
