My iPhone 4 is virtually useless now due to this IOS 6 battery drain issue.  Loses 1% per minute while using, like many others here.  I'm on a road trip with my daughter who is a high school senior looking at colleges.  A stupid alarm clock app uses up 30% of the battery running overnight.  Browsing Yelp for hotel reviews, running MOG to listen to music in the car, taking photos, talking, etc. and I can literally watch my battery drain down.  At sunset I took a panarama that my wife wanted, and the phone died while it was stitching.  I was hoping that when I juiced up again, the panarama would finish, but no, it was lost altogether.  I didn't take my car cell phone charger because I never have needed it.  Now I have to use my MacBook to power this phone from dead to 3 or 4% while in the car just so I can check my email.  This *****.

Much better - I went from 8AM Friday all the way until 6PM Saturday without charging, probably an hour of that with the phone in use.  Almost back to iOS5 levels.  All my mail is set to manual (same as it was under the old iOS) with most other battery drains off (again, same as iOS5 for me.)

One thing I need to resolve is the battery meter - it stayed at 100% until Friday afternoon, and then the phone shut down when I tried to use it at 18% indicated remaining.  I'm giving it a few complete charge-discharge cycles to see if that recalibrates the meter.

Apple is Pushing all the customers to buy Iphone 5 because when you update to ios 6 it has a lot of features that uses the processor more that its capacity leading to exhaution of the processor and the battery and eventually the processor will crash and will not work any more, so it is just ruin to all previous Iphones!!!!!!

like a Bomb for it, so the whole people buy i phone from the start as they have never owned it!!!!!!

I also received a replacement iPhone from Apple but am still experiencing the battery drain issues. With the phone getting so hot, I worry it will cause premature decay to the battery and shorten its lifespan. And with customers who experience the same problems, but don't get replacement devices...they foot the bill for a new battery or new device. Not cool.

I did the OTA update and had terrible battery drainage and weird overheating issues as well. I tried turning off location services, hard reboots, etc. None of it worked. What has seemed to work, though, is restoring the phone to its original factory settings and reinstalling iOS 6 via iTunes. It's a hassle to re-arrange your apps, but my phone's again holding a strong charge and so far it hasn't experienced the random overheating it did after the OTA install.

    Another update:

I tried restore as new through iTunes for the second time, wasted a lot of time and unfortunately battery life seems to be even worse than before doing it. Now I'm at 62% after 2,5 hours (with real usage - about half an hour).

(I bought my phone from a reseller store in Poland where I live. There are no genius bars here so I can't even go there and ask what to do about it. I'm going to France in a week, do you think I can make an appointment and have my phone diagnosed there?)

    @ Maccosaurus Rex

How do you reinstall the iOS 6 update via iTunes after you restore your phone to factory settings? I've restored my iPhone 4S a whopping 5 times in two weeks and it has not helped at all (3 times from no backup, set up as new phone).

Charged my iPad overnight and turned my CalDav/CardDav accounts off the complete day.

3% battery lost during the complete day.

It has to be a issue of dataaccessd in my case.

But strange its only on iPad ...

@CalebM39 It should re-install automatically, so it sounds like we've done the same thing--though I've only it restored once (and from backup). Good luck.

Is anyone also seeing their phones charge very quickly? Not only does my battery drain roughly 40% faster since the update even with most of the features turned off, but it charges way too fast as well. I upgraded from the iPhone 4 to the 4S last week so it isn't anything to do with the age or previous battery usage.

I'm at th Apple Store writing this while my phone goes through the "deep restore"...  Will see how that goes!

  • ChrisLauinger Level 1 Level 1

Fixed my issue. It was the facebook integration. Need to disable Contacts there.

Then caldav/carddav stopped spamming my server with dataaccessd requests.

My phone use huge data trafic 30 mb in 2 hovers without touching the phone. When I turn of data and wifi my phone only got down 5% after 10 houers. But what's the point with an iPhone and no data????

  • jean-evrard Level 1 Level 1

I am having problem too with the 4S.  The barrery drain is spectacular.  Sory but i will move to Android sooner than later.

  • mwarvel Level 1 Level 1

I've had similar battery drain issues to everyone - losing 20-30% an hour when phone in standby.

I went to the Genius Bar today - told me that there is an "internal app" on my phone that is continuing to crash (shown in diagnostics) - this app apparantly controls the battery and other parts of the phone.  He said this indicates that there is a corrupt file on the phone and that the only solution is to restore the phone completely and NOT restore from backup (to prevent corrupt file from coming back), setup as a brand new phone.   This is annoying for obvious reasons - i.e. I need to tap on every one of my purchased apps and reinstall, need to reset all settings.

What's more annoying is that the tech said that since I had iCloud backups enabled, all of my contacts would restore.  We checked in the store - I had 3,000+ contacts.  I now have 1400, after syncing with the cloud and adding my personal email accounts.  Wonderful.

When I first looked at my diagnositic logs on phone, had lots of crashes related to Safari bookmarks and low memory issues.  Technician dd not comment on any of this, insisted this was my only option. Before I had gone to the store, I had tried many options I found online:  reset all settings, remove FB app completely, discharge and recharge completely, restore phone from backup.  Nothing solved the issue.

I am charging my phone now and going to let it sit, see how fast it depletes itself.  Will report back.
