Another one... iPhone 4S that I updated to IOS 6 the day it came out. All seemed fine until a couple of days ago. Oct 5 to be exact. I had not used the phone much that day but I noticed battery very low and it was warm to the touch. It is draining a % point every few minutes doing nothing at all. I read through much of this thread trying different things but problem still exists. Reading through another thread gave me an idea to check "settings... general... usage... diagnostics and usage... diagnostics and usage data"  What I found was what seems like hundreds of logs starting October 5 when I first noticed the issue and continuing to now identifying the culprit as dataacessd. The thread suggested resetting the network settings which I just did.

Will report back if this fixes it for me. At least I know what to look for now rather than just feeling how warm the phone is getting and watching the battery plummet.

I have been using iPhones and iPads for years - and I love them!  However the last couple weeks have been a profound disappointment.  My iPhone loses battery power within hours after a nights charge. Like most of you, it all began with installing iOS6.  I've tried everything many of you have suggested except a full reload.

This is a problem generated by Apple.  It's not hardware.  The OS has serious flaws.  I'm telling everyone I know NOT to accept the OS upgrade and wait to see of Apple fixes it.  If it doesn't, perhaps I'll give an Android a try when my AT&T contract expires in a couple weeks.

I am still having battery drain and overheating on my 4s, but reading through all threads my problem seems to affect the phone more when in use, not while standby. My standby time seems perfectly normal and the phone is not hot at all. There appears to be no weird app crash loops or corrupted files (according to diagnostics/activity monitor). However, when I wake the phone and start to use it, the battery begins to drain super fast and gets hot within 30 seconds - 1 minute. This is under normal usage  (Whatsapp/iMessage/mail etc) on both WiFi and 3g- and is definitely much worse than when I was on iOS 5.1.1. The worst seems to be the right side edge of the phone (where the sim card lives), which becomes really warm, as does the left half of the back of the phone. Eventually after a few more minutes it's uncomfortobaly hot to hold and the battery is chugging through 1-2% every minute or so. Have tried cycling the battery and killing all background apps and procsses. I know the phone does get hot under usage but this is way more than I've ever had before. Anyone getting this too?

    @david burden1

Exact same issue as you. When my phone is on standby it doesn't drain nearly as fast (but still drains way more than it used too). However, as soon as I go and start using it, the battery plummets and my phone gets very warm very fast. I've restored 5 times now and nothing seems to help. I also have wifi, location services, Siri, and Bluetooth turned off, as well as email set to fetch manually. Even dumbed down that much my battery still can't last from 7am - 5pm with two hours of true usage (my phone says its constantly in use.) I wish I could post a screenshot to prove it, but my phone says its usage is at 10hrs 45min while my standby is at 11hrs 5min. And my battery was at 2% before I started charging it. My battery does seem to charge pretty fast though, which is interesting as well.

Glad to hear it's not just me, that timeframe is pretty much bang on the same as me, taken off full charge at 7am and it's barely on 10% by 5pm with pretty normal/light usage throughout the day (maybe a couple of hours). Haven't noticed the unusually quick charging issue as I tend to leave it on overnight so no idea when it hits full. Was wondering if this issue is related to something like screen brightness maybe as the auto brightness setting doesn't seem to work quite the same as it did on iOS 5.1.1? Just a thought as I keep checking system monitor and processes and there doesn't seem to be anything untoward so it must be something else. Gonna try a full restore and set up as new phone over the weekend when I have a bit of time to waste!

Hi all. Just letting you know that the reset as new device doesn't work...  :-(

I did this already this morning and was at full charge at 12:30pm today, had normal usage (some emails some music and a few texts) and battery is at 53% BUT the bizarre thing is that battery usage shows 3 hrs, 3 mins and has been showin that or hours now. But full charge was at 12:30 and its now 10pm so way more than 3 hrs!!!!

I cannot figure this out. Ugh

Same issue with my 4s.  Does not last a full work day. Hope Apple get an iOS6.1 out soon.

Not to beat a dead horse but I'm charging 2 to 3 times a day. I don't talk on the phone. I tweet, Facebook, and txt. I lost 20% after 52 min sending two comments to fb and a 3 min telephone call.  I was rather reluctant to switch from Blackberry to iPhone. This is my 2nd 4S. The first was a lemon that lost 1% per minute and was swapped out by sprint the 1st week. That was May. Finally getting comfortable with my decision to switch, I upgraded to iOS6 and ****!! I now need to take my charger with me. I see no need to have an iPhone if I must turn everything off that makes it an iphone.  If there is no fix SOON, I'll be returning to blackberry and my 7th grader will have an iPod touch that she can talk on from time to time.

Is apple even aware of this problem!

20% phone battery los for 15 min of wifi, 3g even more?

Everything is turned of. I can do as much as my nokia 3310 from 5 years ago, only that batterij lasted for one week.

Fix this or give me ios5 back!!!!!!

Ps: I have no single app on my Iphone right now :)

I managed to fix my battery draining problem. The only thing I did was switch Bluetooth off and it is now back to its normal usage. Hope this works for others.

I'm using iphone 4.  After upgrading to IOS6, I have to charge my battery every day even with minimal use.  The usage pattern doesn't change since I have this phone > 1 year ago.  Before upgrade, I only need to charge the phone every 3-4 days.

I've turn off most unused fucntions as advised.

I purposely charge the Battery to100% before I go to sleep.  No apps is running.  In the morning, it show ~65%.  Obviously, something is very wrong as i don't have this problem before upgrade.

Have just discovered that the 'raise to speak' option for Siri does not work on iOS6, leading me to think that there is some problem with the sensor that might be sucking the battery when it's in use? Just a thought, check it on yours.

Interesting. I'd already turned off Siri to try save battery :-(

What I have noticed is iTunes crashing randomly. Also mail will open even when I haven't selected it. Other random bugs, cannot download YouTube in the iPad (but can on the 4S), on iPad the TSN site auto plays videos which you formerly would have to tap to play...when you try to stop the video it crashes out the page, tel# field in contacts randomly doesn't format as a tel number, on 4S cannot retype in google search bar, virtual keyboard gets 'stuck' in messages and you can't get rid of it, some buttons (where you slide left or right to turn in or off) don't work until you've tried to slide them like 10 times.  Sometimes selecting an onscreen button to 'submit' this reply for example the software seems I assume I want to copy and so highlights instead of auctioning the submit function.  Oh yeah and the battery drain is incredible!  And the battery usage is so completely off the charts inconsistent with the battery percentage it makes no sense.

I used to love my 4S....

I'm still experiencing the battery drain problems after resetting my phone and setting it up as a new phone. I have wasted so much time, effort and money to try and fix this. And with my iPhone is getting so hot, I can see my device needing to be replaced again sooner than normal due to excessive strain on the battery. iOS 6 is a failure and Apple hasn't offered any solutions, acknowledgement or compensation. I now regret purchasing the iPhone and this was my introduction to Apple.

I also bought Apple Care but after my experiences with them...their name is so misleading. It should be called the "Costly Apple Doesn't Care Plan". As a person with a physical disability and where travel is near impossible...I've had to go into the Apple Store a half a dozen times now. And when I do, I'm treated like an idiot by someone who is so arrogant and without compassion - I'm left with such a sick feeling inside. I feel that I've been swindled. I bought the iPhone to make my life easier, instead it's made it worse. And when I bought my MacBook Pro at the end of March, I've had nothing but problems since.

I feel that Apple stands for poor quality and terrible service. I feel they charge high prices and make attractive statements only to leave us regretting our purchases and feel used. As a student who has classmates in the same boat, I feel Apple is severely losing its position as a leader in innovation.

Is this the future of Apple? Why won't they release an update or at least acknowledge problems with iOS 6 and offer a roll back to iOS 5? What will Apple do to help the affected users who have wasted time, money and way too much effort on fixing "the most advanced mobile operating system"?
