Q: How do you delete songs in iOS 6 (finger swipe not working)

Since upgrading to iOS 6 deleting music isn't possible by swiping from left to right. How do you do this now?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

Turn off "ITunes Match". "Show all music" only hides undownloaded songs

I know that's what show all music does... Someone stated that they can't tell what is stored locally so I was pointing out that I am certain of what is stored locally by hiding the files that aren't.

I will not turn off itunes match.

    a) Its an unecessary back step as it used to work fine before.

    b) Turning off itunes match messes up album artwork etc that needs to then redownload each time. Why should I lose data each time just because I want to delete a song.

Its already a pain that I can't sync stuff from itunes and have to add everything over wifi/3G... but to now not be able to delete without these additional steps is unacceptable.

I had the same concerns about the album cover too. But I tested it and the previous album covers that it downloaded prior was still there.

Finally got iOS6 to install and I was excited to see how the rumored streaming with iTunes Match would work. And come to find out, the functionality is WAY WORSE than it was before. I am extremely disappointed how Apple handled this. You should not have to turn iTunes Match on and off to manage the content on your device. I am also extremely disappointed they removed the cloud logo next to tracks that were not on the device as they were the only clue that the song was not stored locally (unless you had the show all tracks option disabled in settings). Rather than finally offering a streaming function, iOS6 is a huge step back for itunes match subscribers. I hope that this is fixed soon.

I gotta say this is so frustrating.  I am considering taking my iPad 2 and iPod touch back to iOS 5 because their iOS 6 updates are minimal anyway.  I have really enjoyed iTunes Match and although it has some quarks, I still thought it revolutionized how I use my music library. I never even looked at alternatives like Amazon's system, but now I am trying to find alternatives.  In my opinion, iTunes Match is nearly worthless with the new update.  Streaming music is nice but a good portion of my music listening is in non wifi locations, such as my car.  Say I am leaving on a trip and want to download some songs to listen on the drive, it used to be easy to see what was and what was not on the physical device.  Now I would have to turn off iTunes Match and cross check every song I wanted to download to see if it was in the cloud or not.  What is more baffling is the loss of the ability to delete songs from the device, unless you turn off iTunes Match. I mean who could possibly think that was a good idea, how are you supposed to manage your storage.  I wonder how that got through the beta releases, I would have thought developers would have communicated to Apple that it was ridiculous.

Apple is going to have to fix this issue.  There has to be a way for us to delete music from our devices in order to manage storage.  Apple had it right is ios 5, why did they have to mess up in ios 6?

Totally agree that Apple took a huge step backwards on managing songs on mobile devices. I miss the cloud icon for each un-downloaded song.

How easy is it to go back to iOS 5? I'd like to do that too!

From what i understand, it actually caches all of the songs you play. So even if you are somewhere without a connection, it will play all of those songs just like they were downloaded to your phone.  They only disappear if you were to turn off iTunes Match and it would clear out those entries.  If you stream it and then decide you want to physically store it on the device, you can hit the download button.  If you run out of space when streaming, it will clear out songs you haven't played in a while which is the only thing i find quirky, but i think it did that in iOS5 too if you tried to download more songs and you didn't have room.

Totally agree @MFreud... feeling exactly the same here!! And to make things worse, a load of cover art has dissapeared off my iPad.

Not to mention... its a bit laggy on my iPhone, and has crashed the music app a couple of times on open

It is true that there is still the cloud icon above albums BUT what if you only have a couple of tracks that are local and some in the cloud ie a playlist is downloaded with only a few tracks from an album. It still shows the cloud icon at the top but doesn't show which songs may be local like it used too !  bring back iOS5 functionality for iTunes match

Definitively yes: bring back the swipe to delete with iTune match activated and the cloud icon showing for each individual song.

This is really weak.  Fortunately I had removed all of my music last night to free up enough space for the upgrade, so I was already in a position where I needed to reload my music anyway.  The bummer is that when scrolling through songs, it is easy to accidentally start playing a song, which automatically moves it locally.  Once that happens, it should not require you to turn off iTunes match completely in order to free up that space.  The only other option is to go into the "Usage" area in settings, where you can remove all of the locally stored music.  This is definitely my first request for 6.01...  Give me the swipe/delete back withough making me turn things off first...

    Maaaan this is just outrageous!!

I loved my iTunes match. Just made it pretty much worthless for me (iTunes Match).

No cloud icons, no delete! ****, talk about screwing something good up!

I am angry. I hope its mistake.

    It's gotta be?!  Right?

    No Logic to it.
