Updated to iOS 6, Autobrightness no longer works.

I just recently updated from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 6.0 and all of the sudden, autobrightness no longer is working. I restarted my phone, re-enable and disable Autobrightness, nothing is working. Does anyone else have this same problem? Has anyone found the solution? Seems to me is a bug or something.

I think know how it works;

Open the brightness setting and then move to a very bright place, you can alter the slider to set the maximum brightness (that means the brightness will never exceed the brightness you just chose). If you're in a dark place, you alter the slider to choose the minimum brightness. It seems you can only set one at a time, eg. not a minimum AND a maximum.

That's my take on it as well. What's confusing is that this change only appears to be for the iPhone 4s and up (and iPad 3 according to posters). Basically what changed is:

1. Phone now always checked light level and adjusts in real time. Previously it would only check light level on unlock.

2. Phone now adjust brightness when screen turns on as opposed to after the phone is unlocked.

3. Brightness slider actually moves when adjusting brightness. Before it would it wouldn't.

4. User appears to be able to set a minimum and maximum brightness.

The problem is that none of this is intuitive and Apple never mentioned that they changed this setting. For what it's worth this appears to "fix" the "problem":

1. Turn on auto-brightness

2. With phone locked (i.e. screen off) go to the darkest place you can find. Unlock the phone and set the brightness to your preferred setting.

3. Lock the phone and go to the brightest place you can find (hold the phone under a lamp if you have to) and unlock the phone and set the brightness to your preferred setting.

At this point the phone should set it's brightness somewhere between the minimum value you set and the maximum value you set depending on the ambient light.

This only works for the iPhone 4S and 5 and iPad 3. My iPad 2 still works the old way where the slider doesn't move and it only adjusts on screen unlock. Why is this? I have no idea.

Note that if the auto-brightness setting is turned off, it appears to clear out the minimum and maximum values and reset them to all the way to the left (no bar) and all the way to the right (full bar) respectively.

Apple really needs to document their settings better though since none of this is intuitive.

I was having the same issue with my iphone 4s. Adjusting the slider and toggling the auto switch on and off will not affect the backlight level like it use to in 5.1.1. After reading the multiple suggestions about setting the max and min limits by adjusting it in a dark (and bright) room instead of covering the sensor, my iphone 4s is working and it does respond to the ambient light level as described dynamically. However, it **seems to be a range that is set and not the absolute max and min limits. For example, setting the max at mid point then moving to a really bright location will max out the backlight level.

Note, Before doing all this and I though it was a SW bug, I did reset the network setting and reboot the iphone 4S.

Updated to iOS 6, Autobrightness no longer works.
