Apple maps very disappointing

OMG Apple!! What have you done?? You have ruined one of the best features of the iPhone, I used the google maps app all of the time to help me learn "The Knowledge of London" as the points of interest on the map are great and street view is priceless.

I understand that apple is at war with google, Samsung, htc etc etc........ But delivering an app of such poor quality shows that they have panicked and rushed this through when it is clearly years away from being ready.

If you drop a pin on the new maps app and open the pin details there is an option to "report a problem", I suggest everyone reports every problem they can see so apple get inundated with requests and then maybe they will get the message that this was a huge mistake and sort it quickly, I have already done it a number of times and written "I want google maps back" at the bottom.

If and Free Upgrade actually isn't an "upgrade" in a technical way.

Does that constitute liability for damages?

Considering you relied on functionality , before the upgrade?

This issue with maps, wasn't publisied where I am, options and rammifications weren't fully explained.

Isn't there a reasonable expectation of progression from the term upgrade?😟

It's not like they didn't have time, or they don't have the cash.

Tell me about it. I cancelled my iPhone 5 preorder yesterday as Apple Maps is unusable for me. It doesn't recognise my local train station (Siri, wake me up before i get there, not after the train has left the station) or many other things i used to ask Siri for reminders for when i got there. It's not even remotely accurate at 'current location' either!

If this cannot be used for work then it's pretty useless. Apple are starting to remind me of Nokia when they were top dog, and i've never given them a penny since.

Be very careful Apple, it's an easy fall, as you know, but there's no Steve Jobs this time.

If places are missing or incorrect on Maps, you can report problems as it's cloud based.

How to report a problem with iOS 6 Maps

Launch Maps from the Home screen.

Tap the page curl at the bottom right.
Tap the text that says Report a Problem above the Print button, middle right.
Tap the type of problem you want to report: Search results are incorrect, street or other label is incorrect, location is missing, problem with directions, problem with satellite image, or if none of those fit, my problem isn't listed.
Tap Next.
Choose the search result, street label, etc. that's giving you the problem.
Tap Next.
Add any comments, if asked.
Tap Send.

Your report will be sent to Apple, and hopefully addressed in the mapping data base.

Apple needs to buy better map data set or use it's billions to rent space on satellites and get even better data, also buy a fleet of cars and get a better street view. But all that takes time and I don't think they have time, this is going to be very bad for Apple PR for the next few months, no way to spin out of this mess.

What a huge mistake removing Google so soon, only way out in the short term is to offer us a choice, just like they offer choice of search engines. This would be great for all users across the globe, and in the meantime work on this abomination.

Going back and paying for Google data would be smart at this point, we are just going to use Google anyway and not be happy. If someone asked me a week ago what phone to get, I would have said an iPhone, now I would ask the person how important maps are to them, then maybe an android would be better. Never dreamed I would ever say that:-(

If they ever remove the ability to ask siri to search Google, that would be it for me. Apple needs to end this feud with Google, like they did with Microsoft, Steve ended that and it was a huge positive for Apple.

PLEASE END THE GOOGLE FEUD!

Hard for Apple to end what you call a 'feud' when what you are really observing is a global battle for domination of the Smartphone market. This is definitely a business battle won by Google. But competing with a company that uses its search revenues to fund Android in order to keep it free is just a form of warfare.

It has been on national news here in the UK, and today is even in local papers...

Apple make some great products and great software. Which is why I am stunned that they can make such a retrograde step with the maps!

Sorry but these kind of replies are getting stupid. I'm sorry but I really don't think people at so thick that they cannot work out how to complain about small issues via the app. The point here is that the maps are not fit for purpose and I could send in 100+ issues about incorrect places, poor spelling, unusable satellite pictures etc etc.

There aren't a few things that Apple have to fix by way of patch or v1.1... It needs to be pulled, Google Maps reinstated and then relaunched as v2.0 when it's fully fixed in about 3 years time as that's probably how long it will take.

I would agree.... Apple Maps needs to be removed in an over-air update and Google Maps offered as an alternative until this is resolved. Unlikely I know...Apple have even yet to comment on this furore, and to do so would be seen as admittance of failure (although ironically probably gain them respect for *admitting* they made a mistake).

I work in software testing, and this would have failed, Day One....how Apple can release this and expect the public to do their testing for them is beyond me.

I hear the argument that Google Maps, when first released, was buggy and not very user-friendly - this is true, I remember it well. However, my argument with that is that we have now BEEN through that learning curve, we HAVE a polished, functional product in Google Maps now. To expect iOS users to go through this learning curve again (months? years?) is arrogant at worst and backward thinking at best.

This is not progress.

And don't get me started on the changes they have made to Music Match. No, seriously.

I’m slightly confused by the recent Apple statement saying that Apple Maps is a cloud based service and will improve as more people use it.

Why would the amount of people using maps help fix the following problems.

Very low resolution satellite images for large parts of the country.

Some parts of the country are in black and white.

Some places are covered by cloud, Nottingham in the UK for example.

Apple Maps doesn’t seem to understand the difference between a small village and a large city. When you zoom out the map, small little tiny places are still labelled but large cities are completely gone.

The only thing I can see that users can help with are the spelling mistakes and places missing or in the wrong place. All the satellite problems are going to require completely new images, something we the users have no control over.

I just got the ioS 5.1.1 firmware so i shall be sticking with that until i find a new phone. Samsung are looking awful good right now, never hear of any problems and my TV is just fantastic.

I'm glad i only went with Apple a year or so ago, it'll be very hard to give up but not as hard as for long term Applites. Sorting out a feature like Maps to anywhere near Google Maps is going to take years, there's no quick fix here. At least i didn't fully commit and get a Mac too. I was close and am on the verge of a new computer too.

Mr Cook dont forget that we the customers have made Apple what it is today.

So drop your arrogance, go and see Larry Page and re-negotiate the deal, launch iOS6.1 and put back Google maps. And whilst you are at it, dont forget to put YouTube back as a native app either.

I wonder if the late Steve Jobs would allowed this to happen?

Apple customers patronise Apple for a reason, dont join the hoi polloi, remember that we use your products for the user experience, dont give us a rotten apple!
