Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

#1 While flyover is cool, I would much rather have the useability of Google maps. I currently live in Washington DC where I use the metro system everyday. I often venture off of my usual route, travelling to places (businesses, sights, etc.) I have never been to before. The new iOS 6 maps app doesn't do transit directions, it instead gives a list of other apps that could fill that role, but none of them come close to Google maps. While some of them may feature things Google maps didnt have, they generally don't provide walking directions, metro AND bus, satellite view, or alternate routes all in one. Google maps worked great for this!

#2 So far, searching on Apple maps has been mostly frustrating. A search for driving directions to "Dulles Airport" (which is about 27 miles from me) comes back with directions to "Dulles Airport Taxi" 4.5 miles in near the White House, nowhere close to Dulles Airport.

A search for "Dulles International Airport" comes back with "Comfort Inn Dulles International Airport". Even when I ask siri to give me directions to Dulles airport it comes back with the Comfort Inn ?!?!

Will the maps app learn to weed out less desirable POI's? If I wanted the Dulles Airport Taxi, then I would search for Dulles Airport Taxi.

Any suggestions? Will there be a Google Maps app available for download? Google has years of experience in anticipating what users want; Tomtom... well, they dont.

Apple Maps... Dissapointing. Here is to hoping they learn quickly and come out with some fixes.

I am soooooooooo disappointed. I knew the maps weren't going to be very good and nothing compared to Google maps. But heck, I had absolutley NO IDEA it was going to be this bad. Maps are running very slow/sluggish. There is no road/traffic information. I now have to use BEAT THE TRAFFIC to show quasi real time traffic eg, red, yellow, green indicators.

Apple truly dropped the ball on this one. I dont think the map app could get any worse. Maybe this is their intent? When they make (hopefully) improvements to this app it'll come as a suprise to everyone. I think if Apple had any sense, they would incorporate usage statistics in the MAP app and they would soon realize that people don't use that app. I also hope that Google would add a non web based Map app like the previous one.

The fact that its disappointing is not just a foreign thing.

I am really beside myself on this one. I'm a pilot, usually spending a lot of nights in different hotels, in new cities (foreign too, but i am mostly talking about domestic here in the usa)

For the past 4 years I've used the maps app to scope out areas near hotels, because it used to LABEL almost everything in sight.

Now, there are virtually no labeled places!! Amazingly, and here's the BEST (sarcastic) part... The data is THERE!!!!

If I search for virtually anything I know is there (Starbucks, El Dorado furntiture, Dunkin' Donuts... Etc.) it magically appears, with FULL information; however, the app will NOT just show what is around me with labels.

This is BEYOND frustrating!!!!

For the first time i am so mad that I am thinking I should consider alternatives to apple. The behaviour they have shown here in replacing the google maps with such a poor alternative is baffling. I was so excited to download Ios6 but now wondering if I need to figure out a way to go back. Well, will not go back but clearly the "apple spell" on me has been broken. I have been an apple enthusiast but this maps app really makes me wonder and explore other things. For sure I am going to put the iphone 5 upgrade on hold.

Sad. Thats all I can say as I was justifying to myself earlier in the day on why i was so much looking forward to IOS6 and that it is because the company "delights". This debacle really broke that concept for me....and on an app that i use extensively.

I hope google makes the app available soon. I tried the webpage link but that is not good experience. If I now long for google maps so much...it just makes me sit up and want to explore Android (from a software perspective).

It's sh1t!!! That's all I have to say about the maps. I've preorderd an iPhone 5 what a fool I am we'll I'm sending it back and getting a galaxy s3. Never ever thought I would do this. Buy apple now I'm bye apple you dirty sly piece of sh1t, how could you do this, what's up have got to many users you want to off load a few. Apple maps is fducking rubbish. Steve jobs would never have allowed this. What next BMW to put stage coach wheels on their cars because Mercedes use rubber. Pathetic. It shows the contempt apple has for its customers.

This is the LAST iOS Jobs worked on including iPhone. This one has blessing, make no mistake.

I think the Maps is is going to be iPhone's biggest achilles heal. Google and Android will be exploiting this in their advertising. The map issue is far more greater than the lack of copy and paste functionality back iOS 3.

I am seriously beginning to reconsider my order for my iPhone 5. I may now just cancel it and go for the Samsung 3. This is beyond ridiculous.

This will go down as an epic miscalculation on the scale of the "new coke" fiasco of the eighties.

It shows my street is magically no longer a dead end!

Not only have helpful and instant transit directions disappeared, but Bloomfield Station in NJ has been left off the map completely.

The park I live near is misspelled as well, even though they got the street it is named after correct.

Sloppy.

That's all within a one mile radius of my house...how many millions of details we have relied on for five years suddenly missing? The few route requests I have tested it with so far have given me bizarre and inscrutable results 3 out of 5 times. I use my map more than I talk on my phone. It is essential to me.

I updated my iPad but thankfully still have the old os on my phone. It will not be updated until this is fixed.

EPIC FAIL. HOW IS THIS NOT TRENDING ON TWITTER? IT IS EVEN WORSE FOR THOSE OUTSIDE THE USA.

Same here in Halifax, Canada. Miss spelled, miss placed, towns that don't exist, no bus routes. I all ready had an app to upload pics to Facebook. This update had everything to do with flipping the bird to google at our expense. I want a rebate or an android with google maps. This update is giving me less service then what I paid for. Soooo angry.
