As someone who used to live just up the road from Stratford upon Avon i was intrigued by your assertion that Apple had corrected this glaring error on their maps. So i just checked it again. Yes if you put in Stratford upon Avon as your search string it puts a pin in the map in the right place. It always did that. The problem is that the town is labelled 'Shottery' on the map. No for a local this is just mildly amusing. If you were a tourist it would be highly confusing.
To put this in a US context, imagine searching for New York City and the pin landing in a city labelled 'Coney Island'.
Virtually every town and city I have checked in the general Stratford area is mislabeled, or doesn't even have a label on the map, at ANY zoom level. I have fed back multiple corrections to apple, none of which have been acted on.
That is what we mean when we say the maps app, outside the US, id actually a non functional piece of software.

Oct 2, 2012 10:04 AM in response to JBS6267by Adam Getliff,Well awfully sorry. I rose to the bait.
Can't understand why your iPhone is allowing you to add maps to your home screen.
go to google.co.uk, then click the maps tab,
then click this tab
And you be prompted to add it to your home screen.
This will give you just the same funcitonality as you had before you upgraded.

Well said - accurately put despite the nay-sayers on the forum who have their heads somewhere that means they don't listen or inhabit the real world.
These blinkered folks (with the exception of one or two who have given useful pointers and real alternates that might help a bit) are I'm sorry to say - a sad indictment of Apple users today, and gladly only form a minority in the real world. How they can claim to help eople at all beats me.
To those that actually did help (or at least tried) - Thanks. You know who you are.
To the others that only chipped in with snide , purile and inane comments - who only seem to lurk here for sport - you're not worth any more of my time, and nor should you be here.. You do yourselves and Apple a great disservice.
This will probably be one of my last posts on here, because things are now moving fast as we start to practically unpick the mess Apple created with iOS6 and specifically their Maps.
Right now we're doing the following:
1. Evaluating the possibility of changing some stuff around to recover maybe 75% of the functionality using some of the apps recommended on here by Dodge V83. Thanks Dodge, but this may be too little too late. Hope not, if we can make it work we will.
2. Evaluating some shiny new hardware that some other folks seem very very keen to see us try. So far so good, and we can control which software/firmware is loaded. It's a big step though and we'll not take that lightly.
3. Discussing with some senior people at the er... 'fruit factory' who have now finally woken up and made direct contact since some nice educated people with an interest in getting fair play wrote a letter or two on our behalf... If you can understand my doublespeak.
4. Talking with the nice educated people about getting this fixed financially
5. Meeting with a few other like minded souls - including Jingling (he who was banned for speaking out) and a few folks from the US to see if we can join forces.
6. Preparing for a possible trip to the US to talk to both nice educated US people and some others from the 'fruit factory'.. Coud be a lively discussion...
7. Discussing with some technical people a way of doing what we do in a totally different way - using more commercial tools.
For me, this has been a real wake up call, and one where I realised that the relationship we thought we had with Apple had changed - for good.
Our trust in them as a business has now been irrevocably broken.
I'll probably still use Apple stuff at home (I may end up with a lot of it!) - but I won't be relying on it to navigate me anywhere for some time yet...
All the best to fellow sufferers - hope it all works out for you now..

Oct 2, 2012 10:37 AM in response to JBDeliveryby simtub,I've noticed our special relationship with Apple has changed too. We run a Computer Graphics design company. We can't rely on them for business anymore. We got screwed when the Xserves were discontinued, when Apple fell behind in schedule to release on time MacPro's at specs similar to the competition and now iPads and iPhones for smb/enteprise level functionality. If software is going to get switched so easily in one OS update then I really worry about deploying Apple hardware in business without proper testing in the future. This is where my faith in Apple has recently declined.

Oct 2, 2012 10:45 AM in response to Shilts9by skparkes,I can see why people are frustrated with maps but I do think that it depends what you need from maps. I miss street view but the turn by turn navigation has been excellent for me - much better than the system in my Lexus. So, for me, maps represents a huge improvement. I am in the UK as well so it isn't just a US/RoW issue. I accept that others may have differing needs but anyone reading this discussion would think that maps is an unmitigated disaster and I don't think that is right.

This may help you I hope. The 'solutions' touted in the link below might work for you in part, but will not give the same functionality that you had in iOS 5.1.1.
You'll be pleased to know that you're not alone and that many others want what you do, but Apple is blocking the 'return path'.
They may be forced to open that up after legal challenges.
In the interim, whilst you are waiting to find your way ;-)
Start at this page, and read... Sadly it's a very long thread...
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4311003?start=780&tstart=0
It has a lot of detail and more than a few silly comments, but reading through you might get an idea of what works and doesn't in trying to fix this issue and the awful Maps.
Good luck.

In another business we had, we got hit hard too by the discontinuation of the X servers.
I ended up selling the business..
Such a shame, Apple used to be great for small technology led enterprise.
In more ways than one - it's lost now!

Really? I can't believe you just said that...
Have you got a different version from us? (We're UK too..)
Ours can't even find the local train station...! Not to mention around 300 customers of ours --- (out of over 2500)
I'm interested to know just what you're inputting to get directions...
Address, street name, locality or postcode?
Really interested to know how you got it to get you to the door accurately...
How many addresses have you tried?
One area only or across the country?

Oct 2, 2012 11:45 AM in response to Adam Getliffby Parlett,Adam,
I owe you an apology. One I misread your user name, that's what posting while at work on a mimi break does for you. Also I misread your point about Stratford upon Avon , you meant Google maps could find it. Also down to a speed post I'm afraid, sorry !
I have been using the google maps web version on my iPad since day one. For my uses it is pretty functional. For people trying to run a delivery business it isn't.
However my misunderstanding of your, perfectly valid, statement did lead me to revisit the apple maps app for the first time in a few days. What it shows is these errors are still there and my feedback, naming the following major towns in the Midlands : walsall, wolverhampton, solihull, dudley, stratford upon avon have not been acted upon. So based on that we will be waiting a long, long time for Apple to catch up.

Oct 2, 2012 12:02 PM in response to Parlettby Adam Getliff,Hi Parlett
Nah - no need.
I totally agree that this is a FUBAR of monumental proportions, and I am very shocked (knowing what I do) that this somehow was missed.
My reactions on this thread have been purely based upon on the derogatory "FanBoy" comments that others have used.
Many users of the discussions seem to totally misunderstand:
a) this is not a pipeline to Apple for complaints
b) that people who try to help are well meaning (and often well informed) Apple enthusiasts.
That tends to mean that they have been using Apple "in anger" for many years and know what is what, what is right, wrong, expected etc.
What it doesn't mean is that they are god and can solve the "I don't like it!" "toys out of pram" responses.
I abandoned these fora many years ago due to the trolling, tantrums and other pathetic comments by people who somehow thought that buying an Apple would solve all their personal issues.
This is not, of course, aimed at you, but is by way of an explanation and rebuttal to those less intelligent people who think that their "I'm going to sue Apple" comments mean anything at all.
I still stick by my monkeys analogy, and if anyone had half a memory they would recall this....
(I totally understand that irony and sarcasm do not exist in some places - semper mac! - isn't that the joy of cross cultural communication?)

Oct 2, 2012 12:03 PM in response to JBDeliveryby IwantGoogleMapsBack,A very true point. My disappointment with this Google map disaster is that I felt I might have to leave Apple and buy something less tyrannical that allows me the freedom of choice. This choice was the dream that created the App Store, where we can buy anyone's product and use with an incredible device. But by removing this choice, Apple just became another handset/ tablet undifferentiated from any competitor.

Oct 2, 2012 12:05 PM in response to Shilts9by IwantGoogleMapsBack,I want to be able to set Google maps as default to ALL my apps rather than Apple map because its map does not work in London. The train, tube, rail and bus stations do not show in a user friendly way. It has ruined many of my apps which need these sites to show accurate location, such as Rightmove, tube London, cycle hire, Time Out etc.
I need the option to use Google map as default. I was very surprised and then "upset" that Apple did not say before upgrading to IOS 6 that Google map would be replaced by one that only works in America. If I knew, I would never have downloaded it..

The dream is intact.
