Q: Apple maps very disappointing

I suggest you read the first paragraph of my original post you relied to for my response.  Try skimming less.

I suggest you reread my response and I ask you again why you don't just visit maps.google.com instead of complaining about Maps?

But of course. If the iPhone 1st gen hadn't existed people might still think the SE W960i was pretty groovy, too.

Maybe I'm being simple but I can't believe that two weeks later we're still debating whether it's ok, regardless of corporate politics, for Apple to remove a mature, well regarded and significant feature of their software and replace it with this premature cludge. For clarity - it's not ok.

For<iP5 owners, the invitation to 'upgrade' was misleading and deceitful, with no return path. A real 'gotcha' by Apple.

When I hit the upgrade button I trusted Apple, because for me they'd always been trustworthy before. Whether what they did was morally, ethically or even legally right is another matter but operationally surely they must be embarrassed?

This is of course by no means scientific but at my workplace of 550 +, most of whom are young-ish techy types (many with iPhones), Apple are being laughed at, in the same way RIM had been in previous months. Suddenly the Blackberry owners are not the whipping boys by the water-coolers...

Apple not only lost his sense of direction by launching iLost. In fact, Apple lost the most important thing of a company: Reliability. And while Apple is just COOKing, Android is getting better and better.

Why get upset about it when just adding a shortcut to maps.google.com and hitting that instead of the Maps app icon will now get you 99% of what you miss about the old Maps app?"

I'm not entirely convinced you're not being mischievous now. I think you must know that maps.google.com, even with today's added Streetview, doesn't work as well as Apple's old Google-based app. And much more importantly, as I think you mentioned, maps.google.com won't work natively with iOS 6 - we're stuck with Maps, which PLEASE understand, outside of the USA, blows big-time.

If your contention is that Maps works just fine for most people and the rest of us should just dry our eyes, then I guess I'm done.

Gosh that would be great if you were!  For two weeks you've moaned and whined.  And for what?  Apple's not giving you your downgrade and you don't and most likely won't get Google Maps natively in iOS.  So, the choices offered to you two weeks ago, 13 days ago, 12 days ago (you get the direction of this) have not changed, so what le.bouche are you accomplishing here?  If it makes you feel better to continue your crusade, go for it.  Just know it's not likely going to change your choices one bit.

For all the alleged perfection of Google maps, I just checked and they have my home in the wrong place - right street and close but wrong place. And, the street view does not include the cul-de-sac I live on. It gets close, but not there. It would have been difficult for the photographing car to turn around without going into the cul-de-sac.

Is Google better than Apple maps today? Yes but, reliable? Not always, better double check.

Oh yeah, Apple maps has a big red pin sticking right into the top of my roof. Reliable? Better double check.

Rbrylawski, you go around with your extinguisher on behalf of apple. If people werent to respond, any memeber of the public who was reading this thread and thinking of upgrading their phone or even buying a new iphone could be easily mislead to believe that apple maps is a viable alternative to google maps. Let me be clear, it is not. Apple maps is so bad, it would be deleted from my phone if it were possible.

It baffles me.  To all the "it's not so bad give maps time to grow"...why are you still even following this thread.  I know why everyone else is here, but the pro-iOS maps crowd.  After 70+ pages one would think the boilerplate response suggesting we just go to www.google.com and shut up is more than annoyingly tiring to hear.

And for those that say, 'quit trying to play the compare google maps to Apple maps' game...let me remind you, it was this very comparison that sparked the entire switch to a proprietary app in the first place. All you whiners saying 'where's my turn-by-turn', where's Siri voice nav? where's this and that?  Android has had it forever, why doesn't Apple have it.'

Personally, I could care less about all the "new" features of iOS maps, the previous version in 5.1.1 was better even without them.  We never said Google maps was perfect, but it was perfectly comprehensive.

So enough with the, 'just go to google and STFU...I can say the same for you too..the later bit.  We're here to keep up the good fight.

you could use the web based google maps and they have just included street view on them.  See

With Apple's transition to its own Maps app in iOS 6, users still wishing to use Google Maps have been able to do so through the maps.google.com web app, but the web version has been missing some features compared to the native iOS app that was previously available on Apple's devices.

Our own tests with Google Street View via the Google Maps web app were very straightforward. Just load up the maps.google.com web app in mobile Safari, tap on a location and a new bottom bar emerges with an icon of a person. Tap that and voila–you have Street View, which opens up in a new tab displaying the URL maps.gstatic.com.

If you think this thread is killing iPhone 5 sales, you're ego is bigger than my condo.  I was in the Apple Store yesterday buying two Lightning to USB cables and there was a line of people picking up new iPhones and/or ordering new phones.  Maybe Maps is a huge issue to you, but to most people, it's not an issue at all. 

Map is a very very important issue for a smartphone.

The only way to save Apple era now is to release a free offline map, in that way, old Apple users may willing help to contribute for the huge Apple maps constraction work.

otherwise, Apple will pay a big price for its arrogant attitude to its customers.

Apple's innovation era has gone with great Steve Jobs, it should turn to a customer oriented era now, it shouldn't ignor his users' opinion like that.

We are here, is not to complain or criticize, we are trying to help ! Because we loved Apple before.

If Apple doesn't realize this point, it will loss its big part of old customers.

A time ago, Nokia era was like Apple's era for mobil world, and it collapsed so quickly.

I have an iPad 1, and of course, with Google Maps. Somebody know what will happen when the contract with Google finishes? The Google Maps will stop working?

Tom Tom maps maybe a solution for you if you use it for driving every day.

Quite a lot's happened in 2 weeks. Apple said Maps was great and released iOS 6. Turned out Maps ***** (except in Tampa). Many people complained. Cook agreed - Maps *****. Cook said - 'go use our competitors' products in the meantime'. Many people complained still - they want what they'd already paid for. Cook changed his Maps advertising copy and directed App Store customers to competitors' products. Maps still *****. Many people continue to complain because they'd like Apple to reconsider. Maps still *****. Who knows what might happen in the next 2 weeks?

PS. iPhones continue to sell because they're a great phone, even with Maps. Even in Tampa.
