Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

    "Buy Buy" Apple?

Not quite what you meant, surely?

I am absolutely bewildered by Apple's seemingly complete disconnection from their customers; aka the people who helped make Apple wealthy.

Apple stock IS falling and this may be Apple's downfall. Laugh if you want but this is not the same as the mostly made-up or exaggerated iPhone 4 antenna story. I too run a business where integration with Google maps, calendar, and contacts (w/Google Apps) is paramount. Fortunately, we only upgrade one device to iOS 6, as a pilot. I was extremely disappointed with that pilot (streets missing, poor directions, and no street view).

The next slap in the face is the new connector. Hey, I am all for new ideas but only as long as they serve a purpose. Thus far, I fail to see an application that takes advantage of this new connector. Furthermore, Apple's proprietary connector cannot be copied, and they did not even have the decency to provide one converter.

For these reasons, I am now looking at replacing all my devices with non-Apple devices over the next few months. I figure that Apple has about 1 1/2 months to make this right, otherwise they lost another customer (which translates into many more b/c of their product's high visibility in our business).

To the forum moderators, you may delete this message but it won't change the fact that I am unhappy because Apple refuses to put their customers first.

I went the the Apple Store on Saturday and called Apple on Sunday since it was the last day of my AppleCare support agreement. I had some questions and also wanted to make sure they logged my complaints about the new Map app.

Yes, it seems nothing can be done except possibly buy a new iphone 4S which still has IOS 5 on it but they told me these would be gone very soon.

I was told by Apple that they do monitor these Forums and take note of what users are concerned about.

They also said that I could call anytime with complaints or worries such as with the new Maps app even without an AppleCare support agreement.  They said all calls were logged and the concerns were read and taken note of.

Based upon what I was told by Apple I thing everyone should continue expressing their concerns here and also taking the time to call Apple and express their concerns.

we only upgrade one device to iOS 6, as a pilot.

That was a very sensible decision, for a company that relies heavily on a specific feature that was announced to be changing drastically.

Thus far, I fail to see an application that takes advantage of this new connector.

It's only been out for two weeks. Apple's previous dock connector, released  a decade ago, didn't have any applications 2 weeks into its life either. Look at it now though...

I am now looking at replacing all my devices with non-Apple devices over the next few months

Just bear the following in mind, if connector changes are an important factor in your purchase decision:

If you've decided to move to Android does that mean you'll be leaving these forums too? I can see no reason for you to continue your campaign of spamming us with the same message over and over again. :)

Thanks for clearing that up, i thought they were double bluffing naming this place Apple Support community forum .

Also, it's no all about complaining or expressing concerns . It's also for support, advice and sharing experiences

    Julian,

Interesting info.  From what I have been able to find out the S3 uses the standard micro USB and can use anyone's chargers so they are now industry standard. Correct me if I am wrong though.

I wish Apple was doing this instead of making us buy $30 adapters for our existing apple cables.

But as they say, "If wishes were horses, beggers would ride".

That's not true. I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note which has only one cable. Besides that, I can connect with any PC or Mac for transferring files back and forth only using Browsers. No need in using iTunes or iCloud or any other "i". Much, much, much more easier to use than iPhone. By the way, I've got MacBook, iPad and iPhone, which now are stored in a closet.

There is also another side to this new connector as well.

What seems to be not widely known is that now accessories

need an ID chip to be useful.  Even more, it seems only big

name accessory makers will be able to produce as now part of

the Apple "acceptance" process requires that products be

    produced in "approved" facilities.

All of this indicates that they no longer want innovators creating

accessories.  Which flies in the face of how Apple started in the

first place, two guys in a garage with an idea.

Is Apple just getting to big and out of control?  Who really is

    running the company?

BTW, I am a very long time Apple fan and own many products.

My first was a Mac Plus.  But it just seems to me that Apple is

losing a sense of direction recently and even changes to some of

its apps seem change for change sake and not an improvements.

That's a good question. I love Apple products, on the whole, and no one can argue that they are / were at the top of their game.

I have though been starting to feel more and more uneasy with their business practices over the last year or so. Almost paranoid in their litigious pursuit of Samsung, cease & desists sent to unauthorised accessory makers, 'new' iOS features extravagantly trumpeted that in reality have been available elsewhere for years, etc etc.

When was the last big 'wow' from Apple? iPhone 4? Excitement at buying each new Apple product is now for me also mixed with a nagging feeling that I'm being scammed... That far from being a valued customer I'm seen as a sucker. Hmmm.. That's for me to wrestle with, I guess.

Full metal bull shocky... 5.1.1 can easily be resigned and restored just as it normally was through iTunes, it's only a matter of a little coding on Apple's part.

Absolute BS on the apps not working any longer because of iOS 6... so every single app on the app store got replaced almost overnight with new versions strictly for iOS 6 that won't work with any other OS version?  Yea, umkay...

Watch out... what that means is now there are thousands of users still on 5.1.1 that now have devices even more worthless and unusable than the ones we have.  NONE of their apps work, not even the stock ones cause they aren't running iOS 6.  Watch out for the flood on this forum from people saying "I woke up this morning and my iPhone does nothing but make phone calls, what's going on?".

When I switch to an Android device, you darn tooting I'll be back here... just to say "hey goobers... look at this and look how easy it works and how "it just works" (a lot like my iDevices use to just work).
