Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

Done much programming have you? No, didn't think so.

None, ya got me!!!  I also can't type and don't speak very plain, so my trainers have to sit with me and cipher for me most of the time, people usually can't understand a dang thing I say.  It's pretty embarassing for them when they get me off the little bus at Chuck E Cheese and I act a fool running around the parking lot yelling "me want tokens".... but they usually calm me down and get me inside.

Easy "problem" to overcome, downgrading back to iOS 5 from iOS6.  It's already being done in the JB community on A4 powered devices, it's a hardware limitation due to iOS 6 on A5 devices.  So it's not impossible and it's not something that would require years of technical labor behind a keyboard to accomplish.

Nobody's said it's impossible, just not as easy as you're making out. I asked about your programming experience to judge your competence to assert that it requires very little effort on Apple's part and on the part of third party app developers. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

I would put my house on it being easier for Apple to sort out backwards compatibility (just had a flick through the App Store - haven't seen one app that I use which is exclusively for > ios6) than it is for them to mend Maps.

So what if you lose your App data? I can live without my saved progress in Angry Birds :-)

Pride and ego are more likely the reasons ios5 won't return. They can't force the lucky ones who haven't upgraded yet to install ios6 - it wouldn't be to much of a leap to let us unlucky ones join them, would it?

Well Mr. Programming expert, please tell us what's involved then.  I'm willing to bet the lives of my 3 children that it's easier than you think.

I've bookmarked this thread so I can read it when I need a good laugh.

Look, Apple isn't going back to Google Maps.  If you don't like what Apple offers, switch devices.

And that's what I thought too, you don't have any more of a clue than I or anyone else does.

Unless someone here works directly for Apple controlling that, they don't have a clue either and Apple or someone would want you to think it's that hard.

My first post here having been a loyal apple customer for over 6 years has resulted in a mailbox full of notifications.

    I have learnt several things:

    Change my notification settings

Don't upgrade without reading forums etc

Give feedback to apple using the links provided somewhere within the 80 pages above

People with points and levels are probably (in the main) helpful retired or unemployed people who enjoy solving problems

(Some) People with points and levels (in this thread) do nothing but gripe about people who have a valid reason to gripe and claim that people don't know how great the product is when in reality they know its shocking and are hoping that one day apple will hire them if they follow the sheep dog around the field and pretend all is good. They are often rude or sarcastic and rather than ignore the thread they get all manly and authoritarian probably as a result of either being disliked or being bullied at school.

Those that claim that apple maps is better than google maps have obviously never used it for getting from one location to another using public transport in an unfamiliar location.

Rather than sitting playing at forum warriors, get out and live life - oh wait you can't - you might not be able to find your way back...

This is such a ridiculous situation it is beyond funny.

I've been programming for 20 years. I have a great deal more of a clue than you do.

This is the part of the discussion that you and your partner seem to be unwilling to accept. There may be ways to downgrade the iOS on your devices, it just isn't going to be offered by Apple or on Apple's support site. If you could spend half as much time really searching for a solution instead of whining and sniveling here, you would most likely have solved your issues already. But since a resolution is not your goal here, carry on as if you we're normal.

Good for you. Not so good for the majority of people that use their iPhones for a lot more than just playing games.

Just as there are hundreds of people here complaining that they 'lost' data when upgrading their version of iOS - an established function of iTunes/iOS - there'd be many more complaining they lost data when performing a downgrade.

Ha! 94 pages accurately surmised in one post.
