Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

I agree with all of the above.

Apple maps is crippling. If I could revert to iOS5 I would stick with Apple, because my company uses many iOS devices. Switching to Samsung / Android will be costly

I am starting by discarding my six months old iPhone and upgrading to a Samsung that runs Google maps in a native manner. Then I plan to upgrade another five iOS devices from Apple to Samsung/Google. If that goes well, the reamining iuOS devices go.

Apple, you have made me a true Android convert!

Im here in the US and if you go to google.com and view maps on the full site then there is a pop-up that asks if you would like to add the mobile app version to your home screen. This puts the google maps app on your phone. It is web based and at least on my phone is slow to load up but the resolution is what you were used to before the update.

I share your pain with the new Apple Maps. Since upgrading to iOS6 the new Apple Maps is useless in the Uk. I looked at where my parents live in the West Midlands. All the place names are in completely the wrong places. E.g. Dudley is where Hagley is. Stourbridge is not even shown. Oldbury is about 15 miles in the wrong place. I noticed this in the space of 3 minutes! God knows how much of Maps is actually correct. I certainly wouldn't trust it to get me anywhere!

I know the reasons why Apple wanted to move from Google Maps but to release something that is just not fit for purpose is beyond me. I have bought many Apple products over the years, iPods, imac, MacBook, etc etc and this change to maps has left me very angry. I have the iPhone 5 on order for delivery on Friday and I am now seriously considering cancelling it and moving to Android ( I didn't think I would ever say that!). The rest of iOS6 is great but Maps has destroyed all the good in iOS.

Apple, please give us Google Maps back until your own product is equal to Google's offering.

At least Apple's huge mistake has saved me £600!

I'm afraid it's even worse than I first thought. I've looked around the area I live in Sussex and there is just so many mistakes I'm starting to think I must be dreaming, well more like a nightmare! Tom Toms original maps for car navigation are good but Tom Tom are not a mapping company. I hate to say it but I think Apple are on the slippery slope! I'm incredibly disappointed in Apple for releasing an app that is no where near fit for purpose!

IF Apple want to retain their customers and the loyalty they have had, they really need to think about putting the Google Maps app back to download from the store.

I am very very angry at Apple right now and my iPhone 5 that is being delivered on Friday is going straight back to them.

I completely agre with you. I have been an apple convert for years with various macs, iPhones and iPads along the way. I stick with apple because user experience was one of their key values and therefore I could always trust that on the whole the experience always improved along the way. Apple maps seems a significant step back in this regard, I cannot help but think that the apple of a few years ago would never have allowed an inferior version to replace an previous superior one. I too, for the first time ever, am thinking android is becoming a more viable option.

I noticed that near me Leamington Spa is now 'Royal Spa' and Stratford upon Avon has been completely renamed 'Shotterly', who new? I just worry about all the tourists who are now definitely going to end up wandering around the Olympic park in the other Stratford looking for Shakespeare's birth place.
