Why? What will this accomplish?

Oct 14, 2012 5:43 PM in response to nlnlnl2by sdc01,Anyone who makes the ludicrous claim that the Apple maps app is superior (in ANY way) to Google's well established and hardware agnostic mapping system is just an uninformed fool; the best response to such idiot responses is to ignore them.
I feel bad for you nlnlnl2 but let this be a lesson to all of you. Next time, don't be so eager to get the latest, "greatest" of anything. I did a pilot test with one of my iDevices and yes, I was astounded at how poorly iMaps functioned! Thankfully, however, my day to day iPhone 4 was NOT updated and I still enjoy the vastly superior Google Maps.
But this isn't so much about iMaps, this is about Apple not allowing CHOICE! It is also embarrassing that Apple gave us a reason to envy Android owners.
Well, my iPhone contract is over in December and if Apple hasn't changed their minds, I will buy an Android phone. I already know people who dropped Apple for the first time. This is REAL! Apple is losing valuable customers to other brands. Apple's stock is showing a falling trend... at what point will Apple realize that giving their customers what they want is paramount?

That is why I asked you the question...
Does it really matter why anyone thinks Apple has not made it downgradable?

Make a survey and you will see.
By the way, why Apple does not make a survey among its users, asking if they would like to downgrade to IOS 5.

Did I say to make a survey here?

I know and everybody knows that at the moment they will not let us downgrade.
I have just asked about what they are afraid.
In my opinion they are afraid of a massive downgrade, which only will confirm the failure of IOS 6.
So please, let me know what are you thinking about the reasons they will not permit downgrade.
Because:
- Apple has never permitted downgrades
- So many of the Apps are now optimized for iOS6 and downgrading would cause more furur than this silly Maps issue
- It's not as simple as you seem to think, as in you don't just turn a switch on
- It has nothing to do with fear, as you seem to suggest
- Oh and did I mention Apple just doesn't support downgrades
- iOS6 is not a failure. Let me repeat that. IT IS NOT A FAILURE. Maps may leave something to be desired, but the OS is just fine and in many ways a vast improvement.
Why yes, I think I did. So again, WHY do you ask over and over and over and over. What is it getting you? It certainly won't get you a downgrade. But if it makes you happy to sound like a broken record, knock yourself out.

Yes, the Google Maps app's turn-by-turn voice prompts were much better.
No, wait…
The new Maps app is far from perfect, and does need major improvement, but do remember Google Maps was just as bad if not worse when it launched.
For example, back in 2006, the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas was simply missing from Google Maps.
In short, it may take a bit, but Apple will get it right eventually.

Oct 15, 2012 3:34 AM in response to William Kucharskiby le.bouch,William, I don't understand why people so often reference turn by turn when there are by now many apps that do it better than probably Apple ever will?
It's been a recurring theme - that Apple were backed into it by Google because they simply had to have turn by turn.
To get (an actually very limited) turn by turn we've lost so much.
Also, I well remember how incomplete Google was when launched but those days are long gone now. The Eiffel Tower comparisons posted above are right here, right now. That's the best Apple can do against Google right now, at a major world site. Justifying Apple's own poor product by asking people to remember how poor Google's _was_ is only of historical interest, surely?
I get why Apple want to ditch Google - I just wish they'd achieved it in a way we'd come to expect from them, ie 'it just works'.

Probably because people have been complaining about the fact that Apple hasn't provided it? Those people probably submitted lots of feedback requesting what was seen as "required" feature of a smart phone.
