Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Then you should try it in Europe, its worse than having nothing, my iPhone 5 was an embarrassment, while a mate with his iPhone 4 and iOS 5 was great.

I realize it has issues, but so did Google Maps for years.

Well, I just watched the latest Apple keynote.  I appreciate that this was a hardware launch (and yes, the hardware is brilliant!), however, in light of Tim Cook's apology regarding Apple Maps, I did expect some further official information regarding the status of his statement, "we are doing everything we can to make Maps better."

There was no such announcement, or even any further acknowledgement or information - and I was pretty disappointed by this to say the least.  Furthermore, Apple have still not replied to my direct contact with them (chased up again today - I was waiting for the keynote just in case there was going to be additional information announced - but since there was none - I've no choice but to chase up through email/phone and provide information about these on this forum (the most visible/transparent semi-official communication channel available to customers who are having problems)

Further decoding of the keynote a little - the first feature showing iPhone 5 showed many happy customers using the device, but did NOT show them using the mapping feature.  Deliberate or not?

Apple also directly targeted Google by comparing the user experience of the iPad Mini to the comparable Android device (it was the Nexus 7 right?).  Interesting to note here that they included apps (Yelp and Trip Advisor) that featured firstly Apple Maps, and secondly Microsoft/Nokia Maps.  There was great applause from the audience about the greater user experience granted from the iPad mini, but Scott Forstall's expression was a little grim upon seeing the use of Nokia Maps over Apple Maps.  (my opinion of course). 

My view is that, since Tim Cook's apology, Apple have taken the Jedi mind-trick approach - ("You do not have a mapping problem.  These are not the droids you are looking for.")  They've swept the legitimate problems customers (myself included) are experiencing under the rug; out of sight, out of mind.  For those customers, however, the problem is still very real and I believe still warrants further official response in the form of information (updates or communication from Apple themselves). 

I'll just add - the 200 Million ios6 devices number is impressive, however in light of my Apple Maps problems, I've advised those I know who are yet to upgrade to ios6 to hold off - and indeed many have decided to remain on ios5 without my advice,  due to their own research into the problems with Apple Maps.  (Australian users mind you.)  Thanks for your time.

Well, you're far too stupid to not be obvious about this old school, brain-dead troll tactic.  You and your Crusader Mapbit collegues are a lot more anatomically linked than you'd like us to believe.  It shows in lots of ways.

It seems that Apple is doing nothing. But even if Apple is doing something, Google Maps will always be seven years ahead.

"iLemming" and "fanbois" are the types of responses that make some of us we are just being trolled.  The fact is that one just needs to read your previous posts to understand how useless your contribution has been to this forum.  Don't point to your level, but like-minded people can boost your score, especially in this posting, without you offing any real contributions.  This discussion is over.  lkrupp was right to point out the announcement yesterday morning because it put to bed any idea that Apple is desperately trying to respond to postings like yours.

Here's come clear advice to wrap this thing up:

1.  Apple Maps is flawed and needs work.

2.  Tim Cook has apologized.

3. The App Store has identified and featured several Maps alternatives, some of which are free.

4.  Apple is working to improve Maps.

5.  Users of Apple Maps can report problems through the Maps application by tapping the lower right corner and then tapping "Report a Problem."

If anyone else sees something I have missed, please copy, paste and update my list.  This forum topic has become unruly, so, for those of us not interested in being angry, it's important that we keep relevant information flowing, so that others will actually get their questions answered.

Guess the posting above makes it quite clear, this morning I tried a messenger app was useless so deleted it, so why can't we be allowed to delete apple apps if there not so good, same with the passbook here in the uk, just uneccassary  clutter.

121 pages.....and so on....and if Googles make a maps APP..it will be for the  end and of the year or beginning of next......

if apple try to improve their....it will take 4 to 7 months........with TOM TOM......because the update will have to

worlwide........

the free APPS - MAPS -gps are just for the USA ....can not dowload with i tunes(apple canada) and the one i can download is with

english voice turn by turn is a 30 month free trial..and have to pay........and not 4 inches...screen.

NOTHING in french....so for us in Canada the problem is bigger.

if i want a original good map gps  it is at least $55. and not sure for the french speaking.

Why cause themselves (apple) more embarrassment, would it not be better to remove the map app totally until is up to the standard apple set both for  app suppliers.

Seems strange how though they know and admit is useless especially in Europe is still there on iOS 6........why ?

It's really not like apple, are they lowering there own standards, apple will be using windows rubbish soon I guess.
