Q: Apple maps very disappointing

I live in a Rural area in Southern USA. The old Map app in IOS5 worked fine with very few errors. The new maps app in IOS 6 is just a hodgepodge of some correct roads, some with wrong road names, old outdated roads and names and missing roads. Where in the world did they get this inferior map data? It's not just old data but a complete mixture of old, new and wrong data. You can buy paper maps that are correct.
I just aquired a Garmin Nuvi 50. It shows all the roads with the correct roadnames. I was really impressed by it.
Maybe Apple should have bought Garmin!

If it's in the IOS it is not hardwired and could be changed with an update!

Instead they bought Tom Tom whose maps have bad data no matter what device you use them on.
The "true believers" here seem to miss the point that Google Maps had more accurate data than Tom Tom, not perfect but better. Whether you want fancy turn-by-turn directions or just want an integrated app to link to a correct map of a location (something Google Maps did very well) performance is all about the underlying data.
Or to paraphrase Bill Clinton, "IT'S THE DATA, STUPID!"

What the haters keep missing is the fact that Google Maps is Google's. Apple just can't throw Google's data in wherever it wants. It is all about the underlying data. Google's data is very good, but it is, ultimately, Google's.

The fact that you believe we are haters as you call us here and you and your band of apple wannabe employees constantly and irrationally defend the junk you are being force fed by apple demonstrates your own ignorance.
We want an improved product because we want to keep our iDevice, even those of us who have gone to the trouble of buying a Samsung or other temporary smart phone to manage to navigate easily during what might be a transitional phase.
I am so pleased that the world isn't run by people like you - we would live in asbestos lined homes because there is nothing wrong with asbestos, where ofcourse the wife would be because that is her job unless ofcourse the neighbours decided she was a witch and tested this theory by seeing if she floated when dropped in a well wearing lead boots...
and you should be grateful than Dawinism has put you precisely where you belong

What makes you think that I or anyone else wants to work for Apple? I'm an experienced software engineer so I probably could get a job at Apple if I applied, but I would have to move to Northern California. Apple doesn't have any engineering jobs in Canada. What few jobs they have are in Richmond Hill, which is essentially a Canadian version of Cupertino. That's an hour drive one way. No thanks. Plus, if I worked for Apple, I would always have to be corporately correct. I couldn't say things like "Haters gotta hate".

I normally don't comment on misspellings, especially when the forum software overrides the built-in OS X speller. (Unless you have a handy-dandy bookmarklet like me to re-enable it.) But I couldn't help but do a search for other misspellers.

why else would you spend your life on here trolling those that are here to try and get apple to give back a level of service they paid for unless you are looking for a job. Perhaps you simply enjoy arguing from in front of your keyboard and generally being a nuisance because it makes you feel strong, clever or both. You might need to seek psychiatric help for that.
As for being a software engineer - perhaps the reason you are here sticking up for the poor quality of this particular piece of software is that it is far superior to your own and it makes you realise why you are sitting in Richmond Hill trolling an internet forum rather than living the dream

I have not proposed anything - I stated a fact. Some have made this a temporary measure others have moved permanently. Your astonishment once again says so much about you and the fact you have no idea how inconvenient it has become for some iPhone or iPad owners. Those of us that use the mapping functionality as one of the main tools on their smart phone don't have the luxury of time that apple seems to think we do. I need to be able to navigate accurately in several cities around the world using public transport where appropriate today - not when (or if) it might become as good as google is or was. So yes, why shouldn't people do exactly what I have done or what others have done and left for good, oh wait - you would like that wouldn't you- so you can go back to earning Cupertino cookies and feel all clever and masterful again.

Nov 15, 2012 2:47 AMby Alexander Newman,Interesting...on my iPhone 4 @ 5.1.1, a Maps search for "Busca ou Endereço" results in "No Results Found"... In Maps on the iPad 1 (4.3.3) that I am also using to type this post, the same search string (minus the quotes ;)) pops a pin down just outside Gosford, NSW, Australia. The copyright imprints in both instances very clearly say "Google". (I can't try the same search in iOS6 Maps as I don't yet have a device with that version on it yet - and of course the iPad 1 is effectively "quarantined" from such an installation in any case.) Btw, the previous - successful - search in iOS5 Maps was (and still is) "Victoria Falls, Zambia".
On a slightly different note, I have been trying out Waze prior to any move to iOS6, and apart from some weird transient suburb name overlays, it has been working extremely well, even showing traffic quite accurately. I haven't tried to see if its TBT option works on the iPhone 4 - probably out of sheer cowardice.
