Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Dec 21, 2012 1:19 PMby gstar65,Its funny, i see so much animosity toward the maps program, but here in Frederick, Maryland I actually get much better and more accurate directions from Apple Maps than from Google maps. For instance, when I want to get onto the I-70 Eastbound toward Baltimore, Google wants me to go all the way through downtown Frederick to get there, more than 15 - 20 minutes out of my way, when there is an on-ramp within a mile of my house. Apple maps hits the exact right route to that onramp every time and sends me on my way.
I know its not perfect by any stretch, but its new. Maybe its been too long since Google maps was new for anybody to remember how terrible that was, And it was terrible for years!
i though it was really bad form for Mr. Cook to publicly apologize for Maps. Steve J never would have done that, and the anti-Apple trolls will never let him live it down now. They've latched onto that for all its worth. I hope he learned his lesson there. If Apple cares about having the best apps put there, and I know they do, it won't be long before the Google apologists are crying in their soup...

It may well have been bad for years - it did however become the smart phone standard and one of the reasons many purchased an idevice. The "terrible for years" straw is one Apple trolls will never let go of.
It was removed in a fashion that has become synonymous with apple. The fact that apple made such a mess of maps and we and others like us made such an effort to remonstrate is I believe the reason google maps is back and was allowed back by apple.

It astonishes me that people who pay for a product or service would say such a thing. It must be an apple thing... Particularly from those in the US that have exceptional service standards.

You need change for that.. It's great that you posted and i too hope apple maps improves upon google maps but the damage was done in September and took too long to be remedied - the remedy was provided by google not apple.
This thread has become pointless now though and I keep out mostly - I still have a spare Samsung that i had to buy to navigate with but am now happily navigating with one phone, my iPhone - love reading the nonsense (sometimes from both sides of the argument) - the "levellers" get stuff deleted that suits them, posts are deleted for breaching forum rules - however certain others don't .. I believe the thread will disappear like the iOS downgrade thread did - as soon as it spirals further out of control or when it goes quiet The community doesn't like to have its failings here for all to read.
As far as I am concerned it served its purpose - we should all be happy and use which ever app makes you happy.

Its a mantra learned in any business school, you never publicly apologize for any error in a product, because the competition will grab onto that faster than you can get it out of your mouth. Its funny you would say that anyway considering the Android platform developers have never publicly acknowledged how bad that was out of the gate, and it has been pretty poor from a stability standpoint. I've had both, this 4S really being my first venture into iOS after enduring the first several Android attempts and finally giving up on that platform. Maybe someday I'll go back but the bad taste I have for it makes me react very philosophically about a somewhat less than ideal first attempt at maps. At least my iPhone works...my Samsung phones never did...

Responding would be a lot easier if you used the little quote tool like I just did. I don't really know what you are talking about. Are you just confused about how the App Stores work perhaps? Any retailer is free to set any conditions for wholesalers that want them to sell their products. If a wholesaler doesn't agree to those terms, then the wholesaler has to find another retailer. If you can't get your stuff into Wal-Mart, try Target instead.
On a more pertinent note. I used Apple Maps today to get somewhere. I thought the address was written incorrectly so I typed in what I thought it was. Apple Maps automatically corrected it to the proper spelling and directed me right there. I tried my original, incorrect address in Google maps - no results.
