And Google has "report a problem" links just like Apple Maps.
About this time last year, Google renamed every street in region of 7 million people in Spain. People were still reporting this issue as broken six months later.
The difference is that Google is beloved by the media technocrati and always gets a pass on these issues. Apple - not so much.

Dec 31, 2012 9:24 AM in response to etresoftby gkinchina,But naturally. Even though its Map service is far more evolved, Google still calls it a Beta service.
What did Apple initially call their half baked product? I believe until the text changed on the Apple website, the language was an astonishing boast of perfection from a company whose products "just work" and which had made a fraction of the investments Google had made on Maps.

Google's Mobile Navigation service is labelled a beta service, but I don't see anything where Google calls its map service beta.

Of course. We aren't talking about Google here. The problem is always Apple, isn't it? We can't even mention problems with Google's products without finding a way to slander Apple with misinformation. Apple's brand new service is "half-baked" but Google's 7 year-old service is "beta". 4 people use Apple Maps and get stuck in the mud in Australia and it makes international headlines. Google arbitrarily changes the language for a region of 7 million people and those are just growing pains not worthy of discussion.

Jan 1, 2013 7:51 AM in response to Shilts9by gkinchina,Some very bright armchair loving people in this forum have questioned the central importance of Maps in mobile. Why are Maps and associated capabilities so critical? they asked. Some even hinted that something was wrong with people dependent on Maps.
It turns out that 80 percent of all mobile internet and app usage has a location dependence. Howzatt?

Jan 1, 2013 7:56 AM in response to Shilts9by gkinchina,The future increasingly seems to be Google on iOS?

Jan 1, 2013 8:04 AM in response to gkinchinaby gstar65,Or is it that even Google realizes iOS is the only place to be? ;-)
Apparently you didnt really read the article, especially the last paragraph. This thread is all about the maps. Location services are quite different and dont really rely on the maps data itself, but rather geolocation services within other apps. The last paragraph says it succinctly...its not really about the maps...
Its all good though...what an age we live in!

Jan 1, 2013 11:05 AM in response to gstar65by gkinchina,Actually, it is not about Maps at all. Maps is merely an application built on Geolocation. It is actually all about the data associated with geolocation.
And that is where Google scores. Because they have the best and most extensive and fastest growing databases linked to geolocation.
The Google ecosystem of apps that use geolocation include the Google Apps (Maps, Local, Places, Drive, Calendar, Tasks, Picasa and more) and third party apps (like the location based todo app that I use).
The problem today is that all these apps do not yet form a true ecosystem. They do not use the Google APIs yet. Google's own iOS apps like Google Local, open up the clunky Google Maps on Safari, instead of the easy to use and smooth Google Maps native iOS App.
However, that will change quickly. All of them will quickly start using the Google APIs. How else will they survive? The best location apps will use the APIs with the best data. And that is Google today.
As for iOS vs. Android, it is the same old Mac vs. Windows story. We all know how that turned out. The best hardware will not win. Nor will the best OS. The ecosystem of applications that consumers start using, will determine which one wins. Google apps clearly show the way today. Tomorrow... Who knows?

Jan 5, 2013 7:07 AM in response to imaybeawhileby etresoft,Your last post was Dec. 21st. You mean to me me that you have been searching the globe for two weeks, looking for a restaurant in a waterfront mall whose geographic centre just happens to be located over water, just so you could post this? That is an amazing level of AppleHate.
You've earned your Leg-o-mutton award for best troll this week.
