Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

Hope Apple fixes this soon as this has blown up in their faces worldwide. Maybe they should eat humble apple pie and fast track the goggle app if the 9to5 article is true, like immediately!

How refreshing, a voice of reason!  My gosh, the iPhone is an awesome piece of gear and iOS-6 is great.  Apple will fix maps soon and be glad they are trying to move beyond Google. Remember, the decision is yours; if you don't like it, buy something else!!

    Dear Apple,

you are losing consumers by the droves & this is monumentally disappointing (as a shareholder). Of course you do not need us to inform you of what you already know. You've spiraled down with iOS 6 maps.

PS > iOS 6 has lost ability to bluetooth sync with my 2013 Ford Explorer (which worked flawlessly with iOS 5). Thanks for the additional loss!

Very disappointed after upgrading to 6!

In China, the majority of cities and town do not even have anything! The Maps is completely blank. There's nothing on the map except the name of the cities, whereas the Google Maps we used to have shows all name of roads and buildings. Even in big cities like Shenzheng, the satellite images are completely blurred to a level that nothing can be made out of it.

It goes the same with the Find my iPhone app.

I want my Google maps and street view back!

Although there are some nice features in the upgrade, for example, I notice the 4S is significantly faster, reply with SMS etc, the Maps disappointment is really a big negative 'cause I have grown to relie on the Google maps and the street view since my first iPhone 4 years ago.

It was a big mistake to upgrade to iOS 6. I will not even try to get an iPhone 5 now. Does it mean I have to get an Android just for the maps.

Apple  - please understand there are people relie on your products to work. Pleas fix this!

Folks. The fact that this thread has not been pulled speaks volumes. Those who keep saying that Apple doesn't read these threads are dead wrong.

I think Apple is scrambling right now and is trying desperately to figure out how to fix this debacle. The big prbem they have, though, is that te only true way to make te Maps app really good s to let their 200 million plus iOS device sers use the thing fir a couple of years to fix ad fine tune te data points.

But, that won't happen if they let Ggogle Maps back into the equation or do as I suggested and let people choose which mapping app they want to e the default app for their device.

They have a Hobbson's choice, basically.

So what do they do? they may have to acquire a company like Garmin.

But, whatever they do - they have to choose between losing a lot of customers or swallow their pride and admit an error.

Well here in Canada I havent encountered wrong names at this moment. But, the friendly user package of google map is become a standard and this new version of apple is way below.

The bad thing is it will required you to download third party app for public transit. And the third party app is pretty annoying, they are not at best at all.

Google map is way more easier to use.

Apple seems become an arrogant right now, they changed and update their platform without considering the needs of their customer. People favored like the Google map, yet apple removed it and they replaced it with a very inferior app.

Im not even impressed with the graphics.

I doubt they lose more than 1000 cutomers, and most will regret it.

You are right, Apple won't reverse this decision, they can't. But it's not because of the Google licensing fees, it's because Google were refusing Apple the rights to add functionality to the product. So in order to compete with Android they had to go another route. Unfortunately a Map App isn't just a programming challenge, it needs multiple sources of data to be stitched together and corrected. To do this for the whole globe needs years of effort and corrections to be 'crowd sourced'.

The decision to allow Google Maps into the AppStore is going to be a tough one for Apple as it may delay progress on their own app. But on balance I think it's what they have to do. And to my mind if Google are cynical enough to charge for it Apple should subsidise it.

OMG Apple!! What have you done?? You have ruined one of the best features of the iPhone, I used the google maps app all of the time to help me learn "The Knowledge of London" as the points of interest on the map are great and street view is priceless.

I understand that apple is at war with google, Samsung, htc etc etc........ But delivering an app of such poor quality shows that they have panicked and rushed this through when it is clearly years away from being ready.

If you drop a pin on the new maps app and open the pin details there is an option to "report a problem", I suggest everyone reports every problem they can see so apple get inundated with requests and then maybe they will get the message that this was a huge mistake and sort it quickly, I have already done it a number of times and written "I want google maps back" at the bottom.
