Sep 21, 2012 3:47 PM in response to mickodby terrytrunce,"How do I get back to 5.1?"
Well, there have been some posts showing how this may be done - with claims of success.
In reality, I'm not conviced there is a way for those having diligantly updated. It would seem that as you do so your bridges are burned behind you. And as ITunes is the Gate Keeper.......Resistance is Futile..

Sep 21, 2012 1:05 PM in response to terrytrunceby stoopo,My downgrade was totally successful. I did what it said on the tin and i am back to where I was before the upgrade.
That's the very last time I upgrade to a new ios without waiting until all the problems are sorted by Apple. We had the same problems with ios 5 and had to wait months for 5.1.
I might have been lucky to be able to downgrade but I know others who have done the same today so it does seem to work.

Sep 21, 2012 1:26 PM in response to stoopoby terrytrunce,Thanks for posting Stoopo
Before downloading iOS 6, I backed up and installed ITunes update 10.7.0.21
I think your posts mentioned 10.6?
Additionally, I couldn't locate a copy of 5.1 even in trash - so where to go from here?

Sep 21, 2012 1:59 PM in response to praymeby kooaskdkejefkdfj,Apple what the **** is wrong with you ? Dear Tim Cook you are not even 1/10000 of what Steve Jobs was. Things like that would have never happened with him in charge. You are a disgrace and you will bring the company to the ridicolous and the failure.
Apple maps are wrong horribly wrong even in the Netherlands. Names of cities swapped with other cities. Places called in a totally different way and non existing streets.
And cherry on the cake the day of the presentation of the Iphone 5 that should change everything again Siri stops working all other the world.
Wasn't Apple motto "It just works" ? Well ... discussable.
An extremely dissapointed (ex) customer.

you will need iTunes 10.6, just google version history download.

Sep 21, 2012 6:26 PM in response to Shilts9by HuskieN,Apple is constantly working on improving their new Maps service, but until it reaches the level of finesse necessary to be usable, take a look at some alternatives.
If you would like to send a suggestion to Apple, please go to http://www.apple.com/feedback or you can Report a Problem via the Maps app by tapping the bottom right.
Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

You can use Google Maps by creating a shortcut to the Home Screen with help from the article below.

MapQuest also has a very nice app available.

Nokia Maps is another great service that you can add to your Home Screen via a web shortcut.
Waze is another very well reviewed app.

If you want a YouTube app, Google has made a very improved version available on the App Store.

Sep 21, 2012 6:38 PM in response to HuskieNby Sterno,It's getting very tiresome seeing Huskie's canned cut and paste in every single thread on the subject of iOS6 Maps fail. I think we have all seen these suggestions many times before.

Sep 21, 2012 6:43 PM in response to HuskieNby VTmario,So easy...how do I say something so obvious and so easy and try to put some effort into this...Here it goes apple community. Wish me Luck people!!
So the upgrade took away a major feature and you are giving us 6 crappy alternatives to replace one of the best cartographic inventions of all time?
Apple will NEVER match the detail and accuracy of Google Maps. Google Maps has achieved the FINAL result of what cartographers have been trying to achieve. Apple has to catch up while Google is constantly improving. Over 7,000 Cartographers, Engineers, drivers, and etc at Google are improving the application. Hopefully Google Maps will be "approved" in the app store.
Yes! you can run the maps program in a browser, but why should we?
It is kind of like "It is got a Hemi" for you Muscle Car fans.

Sep 21, 2012 6:44 PM in response to HuskieNby mickod, hey huskie, your workarounds are not what people want to hear. they are pretty lame and cumbersome. give up. we are venting in the hope of apple taking notice. the maps are terrible, wouldn't you agree?
the only hope is that apple will allow us take a step "backwards" to better maps

Sep 21, 2012 7:12 PM in response to Shilts9by Debonaire,With much regret today i canceled my pre-orders originally placed on Sept. 14. I walked into an AT&T store today. There was only one lonely iPhone 5 on display that had already been scratched. This in addition to the devastating blow brought on by iOS6 maps was all i needed to base my decision.
Been an Apple user since 1995 :\

Sep 21, 2012 7:12 PM in response to mickodby HuskieN,You're venting in hopes that Apple, who doesn't even READ this forum, will change Maps and give you back Google Maps? Are you insane? They'd have to sign another 5 year contract with Google, develop a new app, and pay Google every time someone loads an map. My workarounds are what people need to hear, and stop complaining. If you can't adapt to change, then good luck.
I'm not saying Apple's maps are good, or that they're bad. I'm not taking a side here because I frankly don't caer about Maps. I've never honestly needed them. Probably because I don't live in a huge city.
