Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

Apple what the **** is wrong with you ? Dear Tim Cook you are not even 1/10000 of what Steve Jobs was. Things like that would have never happened with him in charge. You are a disgrace and you will bring the company to the ridicolous and the failure.

Apple maps are wrong horribly wrong even in the Netherlands. Names of cities swapped with other cities. Places called in a totally different way and non existing streets.

And cherry on the cake the day of the presentation of the Iphone 5 that should change everything again Siri stops working all other the world.

Wasn't Apple motto "It just works" ? Well ... discussable.

    An extremely dissapointed (ex) customer.

    Um.....bye bye........

With much regret today i canceled my pre-orders originally placed on Sept. 14. I walked into an AT&T store today. There was only one lonely iPhone 5 on display that had already been scratched. This in addition to the devastating blow brought on by iOS6 maps was all i needed to base my decision.

Been an Apple user since 1995  :\

    Thanks......maybe I'll get my iP5 sooner!  Cheers

Do they really have to sign another 5 year contract with Google? Do they have to develop a new app, when it is reported by Google that they already sent one in for approval? Not sure if it is 100% true, but at least I can admit that. Do they have to pay Google every time someone loads a map? Where is your data to back that claim up?

Here is the thing...Apple may not read this, but the media does. Media is milking this "MapGate," but Apple Religious Fanatics are truely insane.

Yes people who do not get out and stay at home all day and do not travel tend not to need maps. Crap justification if you ask me. "I do not even need maps."

You're venting in hopes that Apple, who doesn't even READ this forum, will change Maps and give you back Google Maps? Are you insane? They'd have to sign another 5 year contract with Google, develop a new app, and pay Google every time someone loads an map. My workarounds are what people need to hear, and stop complaining. If you can't adapt to change, then good luck.

I'm not saying Apple's maps are good, or that they're bad. I'm not taking a side here because I frankly don't caer about Maps. I've never honestly needed them. Probably because I don't live in a huge city.

They'd have to sign a contract of some sorts, most likely more than a year.

They'd have to make a new app to adhere to Apple's guidelines, not made by Google, and ad-free.

It's inferred, because how else would they make money off of someone using their API?

Y'know who's really getting a benefit out of this? Transit app developers. They're going to gain a ton of marketshare, and support more people than the company who has 110bn and is doing nothing with it.

Also, it's more like I know around where I live.

Contract comment: Where is your data. Inferred? That is a fancy way of saying "I guess"

Apple's guidelines: Apple's guildlines is Anti-Google. Apple does not need to make an app to adhere to their guildlines. They do not make apps, except of the apple ones of course.

Money making off of API: **** YEAH IT WILL COST. DUH!!

People are outraged by mediocre programming and media is all over this. Something will happen.

Quit defending. 99% are against you.

Really? You never used maps? You never traveled? I been all over the nation including a couple of countries. Maps gets me unlost. Enjoy the new #iLost as Motorola calls it.

I'd love to know why you're so rustled.

I would love to reference to some sources, but I'm doing something that is requiring more of my attention at this moment. I can however tell you how Apple was about to lay off tons of Apple Retail workers for not being profitable enough. If that tells you anything.

I challenge you to use DuckDuckGo.com to find some sources, since you obviously have some spare time on your hands.

I'd also be entertained to see some sources on your 99% of people being against me.

People need to get over it, google maps is NEVER coming back, if you don't know about what has been going on between apple and google you need to go back in your cave. I agree imap at this stage isn't as good as google maps, but any one who updated to iOS 6 and didn't know what was changing is a dope. Of course you can downgrade your iOS down to 5.1.1, but that would take a very little bit of technical skill that the complainers here definately don't have.

For Thailand the street names are only  given in Thai script. Great for the millions of foreign tourists who visit the country every year and who use iPhones.

Google gave us the transliteration in Latin script.

Hopefully Apple will correct this like it will correct all the other errors in th new Maps application.

Click on the open book icon in the upper right on the main search screen. At the bottom you'll see "Bookmarks," "Recents," and "Contacts." Click "Recents," then "Clear" in the upper left.

I had to restore Google maps because Apple Maps does not get to any directions in Peru. What a shame really. And Siri in Spanish is only for Mexico. Do yo think that Latin America starts and ends in Mexico? And the other countries. Siri in Spanish it is and achievement but you have a very looong way to go.

Oh but that's just too logical and something all the whiners could do themselves and has been offered many times today, in many threads, but instead they cry and moan in misery.  Over a stupid Map application.

I couldn't agree more. Plus for me the Apple app works great. But guess what, I have the google maps in the browser too. So, no real problem as I see it.

Am I missing something? Just use MapQuest. Its an app, has voice turn by turn, works great and is free. I have been using it for years.
