Oh but that's just too logical and something all the whiners could do themselves and has been offered many times today, in many threads, but instead they cry and moan in misery. Over a stupid Map application.
A "stupid map app"? Let's think about the five most useful things that smartphones are used for, apart from making calls and texts, which of course any phone does. I think that unless you never venture farther than five miles from home, a fully-functional map app is one of the most used and most critical apps.
I travel for my job and that takes me anywhere from New York, to Dubai, to Seoul. I used maps constantly. For example:
- I'm not a New Yorker, but I was in New York last week and used the public transit app for getting to my appointments by public transit. That's gone now. For every city in the world.
- In Hong Kong, buildings and street numbers are not always very clear, so I used StreetView extensively to recognize a building that I need to find. Poof, it's gone now.
- In Bangkok, the traffic is legendary. I used Maps to assess traffic and how long it would take me to get to a location by road. Not anymore. That's not part of iOS 6 maps.
Added to that, the new Maps database is incomplete, out of date, and Maps contains businesses in Bangkok that have been closed for at least ten years...before an iPhone even existed. Many current businesses are not listed at all now, much to the chagrin of business owners who relied on iPhone users and Maps to locate their business. Gone.
Based on the time I spend using various apps on my iPhone, I figure I have lost about 20% of its usability due to the loss of that "stupid Map application". I don't like Android, but I do have a Sony Experia that I use as a backup for SIM cards that I have for other countries. At least I have a decent Maps application on that phone, so all is not lost.

I completely agree with you Sterno.
On top of that all the street names for Thailand are in Thai script only.
Don't know about you but although I live here
I don't read Thai writing at all.
Google gave both.

Sep 21, 2012 10:58 PM in response to Shilts9by Beroli,Hello Apple
with the introduction of iOS 6 You have significantly limited my iPhones 4S, my new iPad 3. Gen. in one of its most important functions. Maps. Certainly, the decision to move away from Google is understandable in relation to your claims for the violation of Apple's copyrights. Not understandable is your product - the new Apple Maps. This software is faulty, incomplete, inaccurate and useless. Cities, roads, points of interest, rivers, coasts are missing or misplaced. Your press release, "We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.", is a slap in the face of every customer who can not use many of its Apps now. In your keynotes you promised, that you will only bring something new, if there is something to improve. Now you are failed!
Your company has always been focused on getting the best customer experience. That's over now! Your Company degrade loyal customers to beta testers. Personally, I travel a lot between Asia and Europe. The new Apple Map app is so bad that you have to work 24/7 to report bugs to Apple. You demand premium prices for your product. On the other hand you don´t offer with the Apple Map app the quality that your customers are accustomed for years. Many programs that I have purchased via your Apple store are now useless because they no longer have access to correct maps. That's dispossession. Let your customers a choice. Don´t force the switch to iOS 6 by apps like iPhoto and the automatic download of the new iOS to my iPhone. A closed system has advantages, but then it just has to work. Give your customers the option to downgrade to iOS5 or fix the terrible Apple Map-App, to get back soon the excellent usability of iOS 1-5.
I do not have to wait months / years until Apple has left the beta status of AppleMap. Rather, I'll look around for other manufacturers' equipment. I hope Apple remembers his core values. With friendly regards.

Sep 22, 2012 1:00 AM in response to Shilts9by kooldud,I cannot believe this is an Apple Product. Been with Apple all the way since iPhone 1, and have loved each and every thing, every time. Feel betrayed this time with the whole iOS6 experience. Maps obviously takes the cake, but there is App Store cannot connect error, the DND feature not behaving. Apple... It Just Works! - Well not any more

I will keep my old iphone 3 as that has streetview
I will not update to IOS 6 on my ipad 2.
Sorry Apple but removing Streetview and downgrading the maps on IOS 6 is a huge mistake and you have lost my vote of confidence
Please join in this thread and tell us when we can have Streetview back

I was heading from Yokohama to Tokyo, and Typed in Tokyo station. Then Odaiba Station. The Shinagawa Station. Then Tokyo Sky Tree. Literally, it couldn't find ANYTHING.

Sep 22, 2012 5:36 AM in response to Shilts9by Graceville,I am in Brisbane, Australia. The maps program does not have the main route to the airport, called Airport Link or M5. How do I get Apple to add this major road?
