Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

_SIKES_ or anyone else - I need to get the 5.1.1 ipsw file for Verizon's Iphone 4.  That is the problem I have had...

My main computer crashed which wiped out my Itunes....so the data that was on my computer with Itunes is gone.

Anyone have a good link to the file?  Also...once the file is downloaded...what are the steps to get Itunes to recognize it?

APPLE - Please make it easy for people to revert back to 5.1.1 which would take the pressure off of your company to come up with a Maps Solution....it makes sense.

People do not look badly on a compant that makes a mistake ...and comes up with a solution to make it easier for their customers which the company figures out a final solution....we do however get mad when you treat us like crap and ignore what we are saying.

    Dear Apple

With a huge and growing list of your loyal customers asking for you to do the right thing. I am amazed that you have not even bothered addressing the questions and desires of your customers.

I have a bunch of your equipment at home, but am very let down by this move.

You need to do the right thing and put Google Maps back on, until Apple Maps is working. I just spent a month driving throughout Europe using the Google Maps app in a rental car. With the Apple Map I would not have been able to have done this, and would have had to pay an extra USD15 per day for a car GPS system. My loss would have been around USD200! Multiply this by all your customers, and the system cost to your customer base is huge.

Please do the decent thing. Do not think that this issue is going to go away, by putting your head in the sand

    Less loyal customer

Wow, live street view solves the StreetView problem. Ok Apple, you owe me a dollar!

New Maps told me to park on an Interstate! Tim Cook should be ashame of putting such a bad product out and he should fire whomever manage this project. I can ignore all the other complaints about misplaced monuments, wrong addresses, lack of details, or crooked roads on 3D. But this is completely missing the fundamentals. Abt Electronics has been at the same address for years and even the free Mapquest app and a 6 yr old TomTom got it right. Maps can't tell the different types of roads and the rules apply to them - like you can't stop and park on an Interstate or turn off into a parking lot from an Interstate! Most people in the Chicagoland area knows the store and no one is dumb enough to stop and park on I-294. But if they are messing up something this basic, how do we know if they didn't mess up others than can be more dangerous - like navigating you down a one way street in the WRONG direction. Shameful!

Yes, really that bad, and google webapp is limited. All apps using Maps API now point to the new useless Apple maps.

That means Find my Friends shows them in an unnamed beige void in map mode or a 10 year out of date, greyscale, 2-bit, low-res cloud in satellite mode. Same goes when trying to find a stolen ipad or iphone, find my iphone would not be of help, might not even get the town name right.

How clumsy, or difficult to use? Seems pretty good to me as a workaround until Apple get their maps in order.

Another issue with this new maps - is you can no longer get a street level view - with IOS5 - when you dropped a pin on a location - there would be a little icon that looked like a person on the left side of the location name - when you clicked on it - it would bring you down to a 360 degree view of the street , house, etc.(like you were actually walking on the street )- I loved this option  - this is GONE - VERY disappointing.

I've just used Googlemaps in a browser on my 4s to guide me 75 miles on a new route and it did the job perfectly. Why would you need to hire a GPS for 200bucks? It's not quite as nicely integrated as the old app, but it does the job.

Why would you navigate the wrong way down a one way street??? All mapping systems have errors and roads change all the time. Surely you follow the rules of the road first?? If not...eek! Let me know when you are on the road and I will take the bus!

You can replace this with Live Street View in the app store. Afraid it will cost you a buck.

Hope you can find the bus routes on the new Maps. If you are driving in a dark and unfamiliar location or in a foreign country, you need the app to give you accurate and SAFE directions.

It's very obvious that Apple spent time and energy to work on the US dataset and neglected the rest of the World.

Here is a good example, down town San Francisco clearly has building outlines and business information. The second image is Central in Hong Kong, one of the most dense areas of the city littered with bars, cafe's, businesses yet it shows absolutely nothing on the new maps app. This is depressing. Apple needs to realise that maps are just as important for people in the rest of the world. Maybe the Apple executives need to travel more outside the US.

I disagree. Here in South Florida (in the USA) there is absolutely no detail where I live and there are NO businesses, POIs, save for a few...and most of them are wrong.

What's most troubling is Apple's silence on the matter (save for a bs press release that doesn't even address the issues). The silence is deafening......
