Very disappointed. The new maps app looks more like a 10 year old Chinese GPS device than something made by Apple. The old app "just worked". It figured out what you were looking for and gave you accurate results on a detailed map.

The new app doesn't work. It often can't figure out what you want, it gives inaccurate results, and the map is not detailed enough. Also, it arbitrarily decides which streets should be bigger and which smaller, even though in real life they are the same. Also, it has information (like street names!) that are years old and has been changed.

    Very disappointed in Apple!

Will surely download the Google Maps app when it comes out.

"I can't believe this Maps change and all the errors has got me so annoyed. I just tweeted Rory Cellen-Jones, the Tech Journalist at the BBC about The Maps mess!"

... I'm not Rory, I'm afraid, but I am on the BBC's technology team. If you're having problems - drop me a line, we're checking this out this morning. (or @davelee if that's easier for you).

Updated to IOS 6 overnight. Have two appointments to go to today, both at local schools. Apple Maps didn't find either. Went onto Google Maps and it found both with directions. Crap! Added the Google Maps Web App.

Looks like this is getting coverage on the BBC. I've just been contacted by them and I've given them my experience. Hopefully we will get Google Maps back asap!!!

Extremely disapointed by the new Maps app.

I've started thinking about cancelling my iPhone 5 order and getting some random Android phone instead.

@prayme - Apple won't bring Google Maps back. They're bigger than the BBC! It'll be up to Google to create their own App which they have said they are going to do. Google must be rubbing their hands now.

@a0me - Only started thinking? I didn't bother ordering one because I had a feeling it was going to be like this and my iPhone 4 does everything I need (or at least it did until I upgraded to IOS 6). I'm afraid Apple is losing its shine.

Have apple done this on purpose? This way when google introduce their own app, apple will recieve money from advertisement. That way they make money from google maps in a way they couldn't before.

In China, the situation is even worse... look at here:

    Hi Barrydix.

I completely agree with your comments. I realise that the BBC will not carry a great deal of weight here, but it will damage Apple reputation and Apple don't like negative press. Look at Anntennagate, that problem was no where near as bigger problem as Maps could be. People use and rely on maps. Apple need to listen to their customers. To me downloading and paying for Google Maps as an app is not the problem. Its the way other apps are linked e.g. calendar, contacts, photos to Maps. There is no way to change the default map and makes going from one app to another manually as real pain in the backside!

Apple is worth nearly a trillion dollars, the share price has gone from $340 to $706 in a year and can't even bring out a decent Map app.

They have cut their customers' noses off to spite Android. The air would have been blue and the project leader would have been fired in Steve Jobs' day.

I'm glad that the BBC are all over this, very much looking forward to your article and findings Dave!

I think they have been overly optimistic in producing a maps App to rival Google. It doesn't really matter how much money they have, it takes time to create something like that. Google Maps have evolved and matured over years. To think they could just throw together an App to rival Google's is pie in the sky. I think they realised it would be pants in comparison and so threw in the 3D Flyover as a smokescreen, but it ain't gonna work.

I really hope someones reading this who is responsible for this "maps app".

My area is covered with black/white sat images, feels like some 1960 thing.

I want the original Google Maps App back. Or at least to choose between.

Searching Google since hours, how to get the Maps App from my IOS5 3GS to my IOS6 4S.

Bet some clever dudes gonna figure it out soon....(please)

Send feedback directly to Apple here:

That way "someone" at Apple will read it. Here, is not so likely...
