Private email is the default setting.
To change it go to:
Your Stuff (top right hand corner) / Your Profile / Edit profile & privacy
in the dropdown box it will say "Yourself"
you can change this to 'Everyone' or one of the other settings

Sep 29, 2012 3:59 AM in response to Jinglingby le.bouch,What about those of us with an iPhone 5? No rollback to iOS 5 there :-(
-
Sep 29, 2012 4:02 AM in response to Jinglingby chintamani,Yes that's logical and understandable technically. But in practical sense what we want is the iOS6 with iOS5 maps functionality embedded.

Sep 29, 2012 4:03 AM in response to lynnfromleighby Jingling,Lynnfromleigh,
I currently have no access to that drop down box. It's greyed out for me today.
Not always been like that.
I do understand how this stuff works.
I suspect that after I asked for people to contact me - certain people have made the mail private and blocked my changing it...
It all happened after my posts were removed.
I'm half expecting to get my account frozen any moment - but they'd be breaking the law if they deny access to purchased product...
Oh - hold on, they've already done that...

No, technically you have little option.
Apple could re-work iOS5.1.1 firmware to work with the upgraded hardware (and indeed may even have that) but as the iPhone 5 was always designed to launch with iOS6, and there was never Google licensing for it, it won't happen.
There is a current Google licence for every other Apple mobile device, and so a return is easier.
Your best bet is that this furore gets Apple re-thinking or sell the device and buy something that works.

Let me know when you have seen it so I can remove it

If you read my first line of the last post again - you'll see I agree with you.
That's the ideal - but I can't see that happening anytime soon - if ever.
Apple will not sign a new licence with Google because to use Google Maps in iOS6 would negate much of what Apple are trying to do with Apple Maps.
In principle Apple Maps is a good idea but very badly executed.
They've launched what I'd term an Alpha product, not even a Beta. It's bad, really bad.
Apple believe (wrongly) that Apple need to be independent for everything, and this is why they are on this path...
However, they will pour millions of dollars into getting the product right. and eventually Apple will have a mapping application to rival Google. It will however all take time. A lot of time.
For those of us who have purchased a functional mapping application and rely on it for leisure, pleasure or business, we need to have a solution that works today.
That's what we paid for.
That's why the best thing is to allow all devices the OPTION of reverting to iOS 5.1.1 whilst they sort out their mess.

Hmmm. I have 14 days to return it, afaik. So that's Thursday this week, I guess.
I'm going into town on Monday to look at the Galaxy S3 and Nexus tablet. If they work well together, the iP5 goes back to Apple - two iPads, one iP4 and one Apple TV go on eBay.
Selling all that stuff and buying two S3's and two Nexus will leave me up on the deal and not patronised by a company that think I'm a fool.

Sep 29, 2012 5:53 AM in response to le.bouchby le.bouch,Oh Apple, you're making this way too easy to leave. Samsung UK are having a little ol' promotion on their site.... Buy an S3, trade in an iP4 or iP4s (other models to be added) and get a free Tab.
May be of interest to someone say running a rural business in the UK, using about £35,000 worth of Apple gear, looking to change platforms. Just saying...

Sep 29, 2012 6:13 AM in response to le.bouchby AppleMapFail,Seems Jingling isn't here any more.
I hear he was Banned...
I think you may be exercising your return option...

Sep 29, 2012 6:15 AM in response to le.bouchby AppleMapFail,I think Jingling should still be getting the posts mailed..
Strange how touchy Apple are when they get criticised.

Sep 29, 2012 6:23 AM in response to AppleMapFailby le.bouch,They even deleted part of one of his posts where he offered his email address.
Apple, are you 'here' or not? How about actually chiming in with some info or help, rather than just deleting stuff that ruffles your skirts before scuttling back to your hole?
What are you afraid of?
