Q: Apple maps very disappointing

Having just downloaded iOS 6 I am hugely disappointed with apple maps. In the UK many town names are wrong, with some missing; roads are all the same colour; satellite image resolution is not as good as it was previously. Sure, the 3D map in London is good but it only covers an area a few square miles, so is currently more of a gimmick.

So questions i have...

1) Are others experiencing the same?

2) Will it get better and if so how quickly?

3) Will there be a google maps app released soon?

If you report the error, it gets fixed.  Google maps is full of errors, and there is no one to report to and they never get fixed.  Instead of whining, do something.

Your post is suspiciously like a Motorola add that showed a  Manhattan address in a park or Brooklyn, not mentioning that the address didn't exist...

    I have submitted feedback.

I am returning my iPhone 5 because of the poor maps.

I am stuck with an iPhone 4S and a new iPad that are now severely crippled.

I am seriously considering switching to Android, not something I want to do, but I need maps that work.

Really? There are tons of apps in the app store that you can use. Amazes me how everyone thinks the app is that bad when there are tons of options out there. I never used the old apple map app using google map app because it didn't come near what other apps could do. Go to android and downgrade your whole phone just for one app. Goodbye because we don't need people like you.

I have reported errors that have been fixed, true. I know they are working on it.

I have also reported errors on Google maps and Google have fixed them. Google has also given me feedback regarding fixing the errors, but so far Apple have not

Because of the preposterous, infantile, and beyond all rational perspective way it's being portrayed, particularly since there are already alternatives...    It's almost as if paid androgyny drones were infiltrating this forum.  But that's not possible... Right?

Another solution is to try out another phone.

    Nice feature.

I use Tomtom GPS apps on the iPhone and iPad.

Tomtom is very good. I have recommended it to many people, but it is not as accurate as google maps. I often need to check delivery locations in google maps & then mark them on Tomtom. I cannot rely on apple maps for this now.

I don't want to change to Android, but I might have to. There is no Tomtom android app yet. I just want a solution that works, maybe going back to iOS 5.1.

That's what the people who awarded me the points think...   You know as well as me that there is no "help" to be posted to those who are here solely to rant, whine, flame and bash.  The alternatives are well known.  If they feel free to make themselves out as fools, I'm free to point it out.

FWIW, Google Maps is not as accurate as either TomTom or iOS 6 (based on TomTom) in my area.  Google shows non-existent roads and obsolete (15 years) intersections, correctly shown by Apple.  Google is full off errors, but oddly no Whine Fest  was ever thrown for them.

I think it in Apple's policy never to get in contact with there costumers, as it could make them look like they cared.

Man.... who gave you the right to speak to customers in this tone? Is this how you get your levels?

Who are you to tell him "Goodbye because we don't need people like you"

He has done the right thing and if you remove the cover you had on your eyes being a fanboy you will understand that all these complaints don't come from nowhere or because of no serious reason. There is a major issue and Apple is causing serious damage to itself and to the customers that your CEO went out apologizing. Can't you see? Can't you hear? what is wrong with you?

You wouldn't understand their "suffering" because apparently you aren't a user of the Maps and you don't rely on them for your daily routine. None of the suggested solutions is anywhere close to the convenience and power of Google Maps application. Even the maps on Safari from Google won't replace it.

You seem to be doing quite a bit of bashing or unhelpful criticizing, yourself.

In Australia, google maps are more accurate than Tomtom. Google maps is the only one that shows house numbers. I have submitted many error reports for Google maps. But since Apple maps came out, I have submitted far more error reports, so many that it has become a bit daunting.

Where there are errors on Google maps, you can often check them with street view. You can't do that on Apple maps.

    Modular747,

I am pleased that for you in some metropolis in Florida it all works great..

Sadly of some of us it clearly doesn't.

Please don't simply dismiss those of us who have come here to the only place where we actually get a two way discussion as fools and whingers.

We are for the most part, simply people who bought a product in good faith from a respected provider and it worked and worked well...

Then that provider unilaterally removed the functionality we rely on each day, without giving the opportunity to return.

That has not only devalued the devices for us, it has significantly devalued the business that worked so hard to get where it is.

None of the solutions so far proposed either by Captain Cook or his sailors has actually been even workable for those who need the integration as given in iOS5.

The answer is easy - but Apple are being stubborn and arrogant. They even spend time silencing critics.

As someone on this or another thread put so well - it's like buying a new car with a high end stereo and leather seats - then after you have used that for a while, the dealer comes along and breaks into the car and replaces them with one velour seat and a radio that only works occasionally in certain areas..

That in automotive terms is theft. In the software world we are supposed to support it and just keep quiet?

Sorry but Apple are now rotten to the core.
