Oct 1, 2012 2:39 PM in response to Ex-Apple Fanby KC7GNM,I am not defending anything. I am saying that the new map app in my opinion is way better than the old yet I still use another mapping app because both were very weak on what they did.

Well the next thing they would be screaming about in a year will be demanding that apple renew the license with google. Amazing these people make this much noise over nothing. Same thing happened with antennagate. Now it is mapgate. What will be the next big thing folks will complain about. It is a phone, not the end all utility that must do every thing the way you want it. Not directing this at you but to the tons of people here that thinks that apple is just gonna bend over and give them google back. Apparently they haven't been keeping track of how Steve Jobs said he wanted to go thermonuclear on google for stealing from apple.
OK, so your suggestion is "hand over the money, put up and shut up". That is very useful and constructive advice, you opened my eyes - if it is released by Apple, how can it possibly be wrong.
Since you have internalised the credo so well, may I ask you for some genuine advice? At what angle is the position I am supposed to assume? Is it sufficient to kneel down or shall I henceforth walk in sack and ashes?

Oct 1, 2012 3:02 PM in response to justjesperby Wiederganger,Yes justjesper, can't you see the creativity and innovation that Apple has put into this product, the vast amount of work that Apple has put into this, just to provide us with this new, corrected view on our world. A view that shows us how things REALLY look.
I have finally seen the light and I have to agree with KC7GNM, this is a gift to "us" and "we" do not like people spread their heretic views in this self support group.
OPEN YOUR EYES!

Oct 1, 2012 3:13 PM in response to Wiedergangerby justjesper,Wiederganger your misunderstanding.
I posted this other fan boys and such who claim that it's working great, can see just how bad the map is.
I have been on the phone with apple 1 hour after I updated and they know it a failiour.
But can't do anything about it. So they say.

I thought I was asking intelligent questions about a substitute app you use and I was truly interested since I hadn't heard of any that actually had any integration at all but you only post negative comments.
I was looking for a little Elmering. Yes, I am a Ham also. I can see you are not in the mood at present to give Helpful technical information.
I'm leaving for a while. All this bickering is pointless.

I have remained silent most of today and read the posts as they've come in.
We're at page 63 of a long thread, but much of what you both state and deny here has been addressed earlier in the thread both by me and a few others.
I see little practical advice coming from either of you - just what we call in the UK a "wind-up session" in which it appears you are both ignoring logical responses, resorting to relatively uninteresting and unimportant noise.
If you have a genuine wish to understand, and not just snipe from the sidelines as sport, then you should read back through the posts on this thread, and watch the evolution of the discussion.
If as I suspect, you are not interested in getting ALL the salient facts, then just at least read my posts on pages 53 and 56 of this thread in which I try and summarise the issues people have, and then later describe how we used to use the integration of maps in our small business as an example....
It's a real world example of our mistake, led by over enthusiastic marketing hype, and our formerly unshakeable belief in Apple expertise. Regrettably not understanding there was no recourse if it went wrong, It has gone wrong...
All that might help you understand.
I hope you do try, as you may learn something and even better actually use your intellect for positive good.
The few glimmers of hope have been the recommendation of an app that may integrate, and helpful suggestions of other apps - but these were often rapidly extinguished by a rant.
This arguing and tit for tat banter my be amusement for some - for me and others here, this is actually very serious.
That purile behaviour from either side doesn't help the cause. Calm down and genuinely contribute or please go elsewhere to play.
We still have the problem, we'd obviously really like a working iOS6 with Apple Maps, but until that's a viable reality for users in each locality badly affected by poor map data (like UK, China, Japan, Mainland Europe and even some US areas) we'd simply like the option of returning to something that worked - and that we've already paid for.
I am sure most of us would then gladly contribute where we could to improve Apple Maps, safe in the knowledge that in the interim we could still get to addresses given..
I hope this gives you cause for serious contemplation.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Oct 1, 2012 5:34 PM in response to KC7GNMby Felixx2011,Maybe the Apple Maps app is great, but good app with bad data is no solution.
Is like a music playing software. Imagine that after an update, itunes could only play califonia music. People listenning to that music say the app is great, and be patient. Our application will soon be able to search for and play music from other countries.
Until then, keep listening to California Dreaming. :-)
Seriously, a couple of days ago, I made some suggestion for corrections in maps (street names, adding businesses, etc.) close to where I live, using apple Maps, and there have been no corrections yet.
What users are expecting is a messagenwith some king of timeframe message..
If we dont se a strategy, no feedback, what can we expect?
Rergards.

Oct 1, 2012 5:37 PM in response to Shilts9by Lerxt,People who are defending Apple Maps need to understand that functionality and usuability are key to peoples' experience with their phone. This is the reason why people are dismayed at Apple. How creative and beautiful etc the app is suposed to be is irrelevent. Those of us who use Google's Maps everyday and use Street View lots are going to have a worse experience. Where I am at the moment, the Apple Maps app is virtually useless, and it is a very major city.
Apple has lost my business and I will not buy iPhone 5 until this is fixed. (not to mention ripoff cables and the odd aspect ratio ). I am wondering if I can make Android sync with iCloud right now.
Did anyone read that 2/3 of IOS devices have not been downgraded to IOS 6 still? Is there a wonder?

Oct 1, 2012 6:40 PM in response to Shilts9by Zeddecus,I recently took my first trip to Florida and used the apple maps almost the whole trip. It worked perfectly for me. I found everything I needed between Miami and Orlando. It did miss a street in Miami sending me in loop, but very minor. Gave me 5th instead of 6th street. But it saved me and my girl from getting lost the whole time. The voice navigation was a great addition. Screw google maps and their androids. I applaud apple for taking their stance on this one. Ballsy. Just needs to be tweaked.

Oct 1, 2012 7:53 PM in response to JBDeliveryby DodgeV83,Try "Week Calendar" from Utilitap:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/week-calendar/id381059732?mt=8
Along with either Navigon (check your appstore, there may be a cheaper version just for the UK):
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/navigon-british-isles/id320253828?mt=8
Or TomTom:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tomtom-u.k.-ireland/id326067542?mt=8
Navigon has Google StreetView built-in, but it doesn't work with the directions from Week Calendar, which integrate the latitude and longitude coordinates into the address. I'll send Navigon a note and see if they can fix that. Here's a quick YouTube video showing how it all works together:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WJZlCcdgaw
From what I've read of your requirements, this should match them all besides Street View. It also adds a few perks:
1. Turn-By-Turn directions
2. Removes the need for a 3G connection for routing (TomTom and Navigon both work offline)
3. Less apps to juggle (two instead of three)
Lastly, if the calendar gets too busy, you can double tap on any particular day, to zoom in on that day. This gives nice big buttons for use in the car (while parked of course!)
Good luck!
Edit: Oh yea, it's an iPhone app, but it works quite well on the iPad as well. I use the same app on both.

Oct 1, 2012 8:32 PM in response to Zeddecusby Parlett,Zeddecus,
I am actually really happy it's all working for you. Unfortunately the rest of the world isn't so lucky. From what I can see the apple maps work pretty well around the Dallas Fort Worth area too. Multiple reports from NY state it is not so good there. I actually don't like the way they are drawn, the satellite views are not a patch on google's , there is no terrain feature , which I use a lot when planning scenic vacation drives and of course no streetview. However if the worldwide implementation was up to this standard i think the rage felt around the world at what you called 'a ballsy stance' would not be there.
However, despite many inhabitants views to the contrary, there is a rather large world outside the US. If Apple had just rolled out maps to the US market at this release there wouldn't be the ridicule there is out there. The implementation outside the US is comically wrong. Woefully inaccurate, poorly labelled and functionally useless. Why don't most posters to this thread understand that ? It doesn't need 'to be tweaked' it needs to be rolled back and replaced until it is in a fit state for shipping.

Thank you for your posts, i really hope you have cracked the problem for the business users over in the UK that have been having issues.
Even if you haven't it is refreshing to see someone using this forum for what it is intended for, actually supporting each other and trying to fix problems.
Good on you ....
