Oct 2, 2012 4:01 AM in response to gkinchinaby Adam Getliff,Not quite sure what you mean. I thought Apple had admitted fault - they don't seem to be denying it from where I'm sitting.
Good luck with that one.
Have a nice day and be careful you don't fall in any rivers.

Exactly. Not sure why this thread is even still going. They accepted accountablilty, are working on improvements, and recommended action to take until improvements can be implemented.

Oct 2, 2012 6:21 AM in response to Gat0rby gkinchina,Apple's apology is appreciated.
However, the Apple recommended actions do not include the interim solution that people on this thread require, which is the option to revert to IOS 5 Maps or to IOS 5.
Apple has blocked it.
Please read earlier explanations in the thread to understand why this is required.

Oct 2, 2012 6:44 AM in response to gkinchinaby jonfromdaleville,I'm sure Apple has it's reasons why they do not support downgrading. They have never supported downgrading that I'm aware of and I hope they don't change company policy because of a few hundred people that are screaming on their user to user forums. Have any of you noticed that the previous mentioned "ways to downgrade" were not on apple sites? There is a reason for that.

Oct 2, 2012 6:47 AM in response to JBDeliveryby DodgeV83,Great, I hope it works out! Note, I only tested the app out with Navigon and Tomtom, but the app also supports:
iGO ($25 for the UK edition)

Sygic ($24 for the UK edition)

MotionX GPS Drive (cheap subscription model, but not sure on UK support)

and Waze (Free)

Oct 2, 2012 6:59 AM in response to Shilts9by manwithamission,These solutions are all beginning to look very not apple! Simple, intuitive, transparent.
I thought this letter was very well written and a good and much more simple stop gap than purchasing several apps to do what could be done as part of what most people had until a couple of weeks ago.
http://mashable.com/2012/10/01/apple-old-google-maps-app-ios6/
Nice to see the offering of cheaper options (DodgeV83) but has anyone mentioned that apple receives 30% isn't it of the cost of any of these other apps people buy from the appstore to replace what was the free google maps app. How much does Navigon cost for example? This was one of the recommended apps in the app store "find maps for your iphone/ipad) page. I have it and have always used it for my driving - turn by turn navigation. I must say however it now wants money for fresh map updates, post codes, traffic info, mobile speed camera info. All of these in app purchased of course giving more revenue to apple.

Oct 2, 2012 7:08 AM in response to le.bouchby pedramolar,Consumer Reports Compares Maps Navigation on iOS 6 and Android
Consumer Reports:
Having put it through the paces we subject each portable navigator to in our test program, our original criticisms remain. But having more thoroughly tested Apple Maps alongside a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with Google Maps, we have a more favorable opinion — certainly more favorable than comments and articles that we’ve been reading online.

Oct 2, 2012 7:16 AM in response to Adam Getliffby Ex-Apple Fan,As Mr. JB Delivery has pointed it out, the trust is gone and that is the biggest loss to Apple on the mid and long term because without trust there would be no loyality.
I have been using iPhones since the first AT&T device came out on IOS 1 or IOS 2 I don't remember anymore and I have always updated the OS without a second thought. So trust was earned and loyality was made. With this stupid upgrade I reached to the point where I don't beleive Apple Executives, I don't believe in Apple's quality, and I had to spend hours reading for solutions from those you have just impolitely called the early monkeys.
The logic says that you don't release software that doesn't have the bare minimum of QA then send notifications to your users all over the world that the upgrade is ready now for you. Then you say OK not because you are an early monkey but just because you aren't a nerd. You simply think you are dealing with a proper company that has QA in place not a micky mouse company lead by monkeys.
The usual behaviour is to say YES to the software licence agreement acceptance button knowing that that nearrly 99% of those who install or upgrade never reads this agreement. After that Voila..you device is the captive of the monkey who made the decision to release the unfunctional software and closed the downgrade window for you. Furthermore, this monkey wants you to work free of charge for him to improve his mapping software while he is playing the deaf and igonoring your request and that of his loyal customer to "downgrade". Did you figure out who the Monkey is here?
In the business world I live and learnt from during my time in this planet, companies that make the "downgrade" a wish for its loyal customers isn't worth working for, investing in, or buying from and it will certainly pay for that.
It is thought that Einstien once said "Two things are infinite: The Universe and Human Stupidity and I am not quiet sure about the first" The best description that fits Apple's action to vountirily upset its loyal customers is related to this infinite stupidity.

Oct 2, 2012 7:22 AM in response to Frank G in DFby Ex-Apple Fan,Can I ask you to read a few pages and some posts before you tell people to use Google Maps on Safari because it doesn't work anyway close to how the native application works

Oct 2, 2012 7:53 AM in response to Adam Getliffby JBS6267,Comments insulting iPhone users for not being "forced" to upgrade are not only false, they're offensive.
It is sad to see that the fans of Apple are not taking cues from Apple in how to treat people with complaints.
When I received notice of the upgrade, I was told that it also fixed stability issues on several features of the software. I considered it wise to upgrade.
One of the reasons I bought the phone was that the Google Maps app did a great job with walking directions in Europe, where I now work. That solution is gone for many of us for months.
The complaints here about the maps are legitimate. Apple's telling people to use Google Maps is a step in the right direction - paying for the advanced apps and helping Google do it better and more quickly would be advisable.
