iOS 6 Group Contacts

When selecting "Groups" in iOS 6 Contacts all groups appear with a "checkmark" on the right side.

Clicking on an individual "Contact" the checkmark dissapears but does not open, therefore not allowing

you access to the contacts within that "Group". Anyone else experiencing this problem ?

Thank you, Chris C.

The new scheme is a little strange, but it does seem to work once you get the hang of it.

When you choose groups you see check marks on the righthand side, if you tap All Contacts then the check marks vanish, now you can select the group where you want to search.

In my case the name I wanted to find was within Frequent Contacts, and so I tapped that name, pressed done and then found myself in the Frequent Contacts group.

Now I can scroll through the names, or I can search within the group that I am currently active in.

To choose another group, tap groups and then choose the next group, or All Contacts and then start again.

It looks like Groups now works differently. I have to say I prefer the old style where you had all contacts and selecting a group would take you into that group and its contacts. Now it seems, while you can select multiple groups to display at the same time

a) It's an extra click to get in to that group (you now have to choose 'Done') and as such fast switching between groups is slower and

b) I have some contacts in more than one group, because of the slow switching its harder to confirm that they are all in the right groups as multiple groups just brings up all the assigned contacts, not the assigned contacts under their relevant goup.

To me this feels a more clunky way of doing things. Not that impressed with it.

And it is so unintuitive and obscure that heaps of people have ended up here, including me, as we couldn't figure out how it is supposed to work!!!

Send you feedback to Apple and maybe we can get this changed.

I'm going back to 5.1.1.

This is what I sent

"This new implementation of how to get into groups in Contacts in iOS6 is just ridiculous.

I spent ages trying to work out what was wrong, I restored the software, ended up at the Apple discussion forums and found out how it was supposed to work. Some clever person finally worked out how to work it.

This is so UNINTUITIVE and so UNLIKE any other aspect of the OS that people are flocking to the Apple discussions in droves thinking there is something wrong with Contacts because they do not realise how it is supposed to work.

If you are going to implement weird way out ways of doing things like this then you better start printing out manuals to hand out with the phones, because nobody is going to understand how to use them.

It stumped me and I was an Apple technician in a school for 15 years!!!!

Please, please change this back. You are making it so hard to use for ALL users for what gain?? So the rare individual who wants to view more that one group at once can???

If you really want to view more than one group at once you can create a new group with them all in it."

I figured out how to use it...but I don't like it.

I'm most disappointed in that it's in an update. It's clunky and does not follow or fit into the smooth flow style Apple had perfected in its iPod and iPhone devices menus.

Updates are supposed to make features better. This one is a step backward. I'll get used to the change if Apple stubbornly decides to keep it. But I hope this is one of those times where they can quietly admit they were wrong by changing it back to the older (easier, more Apple) style in later updates. I won't even say, "I told you so."

Thanks, that does work. Although I am experiencing another problem with groups. Every once in a while, the contacts get removed from certain groups. They are still in All contacts, they don't get deleted, but they are removed from the groups and I have to start all over again adding contacts. This seems to happen randomly and I can't figure out why it does. I have my contacts synced with yahoo contacts. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Oh this is an AWFUL change!! I have spent the last 3 1/2 hours trying to figure out what on earth was happeing. Checked posts and up until now there was nothing. But, here is an alternative I found in case Apple doesn't fix this problem: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/review/savi-contacts-a-great-substitute-for-ios-6 -users. I haven't tried it yet because I am hoping Apple will address this problem VERY SOON. I will give them, hmmm, a day? Then it's on to this link perhaps. Oh, and I can't restore to the previous version with my earler back up because it tells me now that the previous is incompatible. Too bad Jobs isn't here: he would not have let ios 6 launch with these problems.
