Error code 2324

Trying to install the newest version of itunes and I got this error code. Have since tried to download and install several more times and I get the same code.

Tried to delete whatever version of itunes that was on my computer and it tells me I can't do it because due to whatever progress the installer made, necessary files are missing.

***? What do I do? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Tried that and it says it removed itunes.

Went to re-install and now I get a new message saying that it can't access c:/programfiles/x86/itunes because I am not an administrator or don't have administrator prviledges.

Found that a bit unusual since I'm on a laptop so it's not like I ever need to mess with priviledges. Do you know how to move around this?

Hmmm.

There's a couple of things that might be in play here.

Let's try something relatively simple. Download and save a copy of the installer to your hard drive (don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet):

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Now right-click on the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) that you downloaded and select "Run as administrator".

Does that go through any better for you?

Okay.

It's also consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

It worked! It worked! It worked! It worked!

I ran the disk check and while it didn't list any files or indexes that were damaged, it somehow fixed whatever was amiss. I was then able to install itunes as an administrator, as you previously suggested, and I'm now listening to Grizzly Bear while browsing the store.

Thank you so much for your help, this was such a pain but there's no way I would have fixed it on my own.

Thanks,

Michael

I am having similar issues now with my itunes and have completed all the steps you suggested including the scan. The program when it tries to install keeps saying the installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory C:\Program Files\itunes. The installation cannot continue. *** on as adminiistrator or contact your system administrator. I am the administrator. Is there anything else you may suggest to fix my issue?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading or need to revert to an older version as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
