I'm getting the same thing using a MacBook Pro with retina. The update went fine but on the final reboot it just hangs at gray screen with apple logo. I also tried to do a fresh install using recovery and it gives the same thing. I was able to restore to 10.8.1 with a time machine restore and it's working again. Anyone else having this issue? Or a fix?
I have exactly the same issue with an iMac 27 core i7 with ssd. Stuck on the apple logo
Whith recovery mode I was able to reinstall 10.8.0 but another attempt with the combo update 10.8.2 bring back the same problem
Have you got a bootcamp partition ?
Yes I do, I was wondering if that had anything to do with it, I just didn't want to delete it
Solved for me !
The frech install with the recovery partition does not help.
Then first i try to access in console mode with 'command s' during the boot process and i see the the kernel is blocked by PARAGON (used for access to bootcamp).
I boot next in save mode (shift during the boot process) and download here the paragon soft for running the desinstaller.
After reboot my mac can boot in 10.8.2.
Look after all NTSF mount application (lib pref) - and do a clean desintall !
So to simplify it are you saying that you booted into safe mode (hold shift) then uninstalled Paragon NTFS application using the uninstaller on their website then reboot normal?
Ok so I restored to my 10.8.1 time machine backup and then did an uninstall of Paragon NTFS for Mac 10 using the uninstaller that came with it. I then proceeded to update to 10.8.2. Unfortunately that alone did not fix it. I had to boot holding shift to get to safe mode. Once there I did some poking around for left over paragon files and found one named something like com.paragon.snapshot in /system/library/extensions and deleted it. Then did a normal reboot and everything came up without issue.
Yes
The problem is linked to Paragon NTFS and maybe some others NTSF tools (?)
Paragon NTFS was the problem for me too.
rm -rf the ******* KEXT.
I don't want to hear about paragon products anymore. 4 work hours lost cause of that.
Thanks a lot for solving this !!!!
For me too it was the Paragon KEXT
It reminds me that I bought a product from them which was discontinued 4 months after .
When I asked for support they told me to shove off, even though they should support it 2 years by EEC laws. Dont't buy from them !
I'm also stuck and cannot sign into my computer after updating. How do I get my time machine back up to show up when I am on the sign in screen?
If your problem is linked to the PARAGON Kext, you don't need your back-up. Just boot in save mode (Shift key), download your PARAGON Product and run the uninstaller from the Paragon Disk image.
To see if your problem is related to Parogon, first boot in console mode (command s) and after 5 lines the kernel is blocked by the Paragon Kext (you could read it on the screen).
For another issue boot on the recovery (option) and then chose your backup.
Tried rebooting with command s. seems ok and did not see anything unusual. It showed all the info. Then I rebooted in safe mode. Still on gray sign in screen. If it was a paragon product how would I find it if I can't sign in. By the way, I can access the I Internet if I sign in as a guest user. Any ideas?
Ok, got it to work, signing in with old password?!?!?! Crazy.......
Same exact thing happened to me. I wiped and installed a fresh install of ML 10.8.2....all appeared to be going well until about an hour after my Migration...the system locked up. Did a hard reboot and it froze at the gray screen....no daisy wheel.
Rebooted with Shift key, poked around and found remnants of previous NTFS products including NTFS-3G. Buried at /System/Library/Filesystems/ntfs-3g.fs/Support/ is uninstall-package.sh
I ran that and it removed a crapload of files that were still hanging around. Rebooted and like magic....back in bidness....
