OK so let's recap here for anyone new coming here with these problems:

There are a number of issues with people being unable to use WiFi after upgrading to IOS6. I will list them where possible with their fixes here for new people finding this thread in frustration at their Apple device not letting them use WiFi...

First things to try:

Go into WiFi settings and select your WiFi network. choose the "Foget This Network" option. Then rejoin your network.

If that still fails, go to Reset network settings and then go back to WiFi and try adding again. (To reset your network settings, tap Settings > General, then tap Reset > Reset Network Settings)

If that fails try changing the proxy settings. If it is currently AUTO set it to OFF. If it is OFF or ON set it to AUTO. If it still fails switch it back how it was...

The device appears to connect to WiFi but doesn't do anything. It is confused about whether to use 3G or WiFi to send and receive data. Stop it's confusion by turning off 3G cellular data. Rejoin the WiFi network if necessary and all should work fine. After a few seconds turn back on cellular 3G and all should be well.

The device will not connect to the WiFi network at all giving the error "incorrect password" in WEP mode or "cannot connect to" in WPA mode. In the router, change WiFi channel to 11 or lower. iOS6 cannot use the high channel numbers. Change the security method IN YOUR ROUTER (Sorry!) from WEP to WPA2 which is far more secure anyway. Then try to reconnect the network. Obviously if you do this you will have to change the settings in all your devices to WPA2 as well. It is a good investment though really. Someone sitting outside your house with a laptop could hack into your WEP network within 15 minutes.

Finally, there was a problem with people getting a proxy screen display on accessing the web. This was a problem at Apple offices which should no longer be occurring.

Good luck!

Booked an appointmet at the genius bar. My iPad2 barely even sees networks any more. There is no chance in it actually joining one. Occasionally I'll see a network but it always says 'unable to connect' when I try. Have tried approx 6 different networks in different loctions, tried updating firmware on routers, resetting network settings, airplane mode, proxy BS, wiping iPad and starting again twice, fiddling with router settings, banging head against wall and considered switching to android/pc. Don't know how many hours I've wasted on this now. The silence surrounding this from Apple makes me think that they don't have a clue how to fix it. I've defended Apple on many an occasion but I'm staring to lose faith. This this should not even be an issue. Absolutely shameful.

Although most of these suggestions will provide temporary fixes, none of them gets to the real root of the issue. Apple has been unwilling, on many levels, to provide acceptable support.

My temp fix - Because of the many wireless networks in range of my house, I simply changed the broadcast channel from "auto" to a higher number on the available list within my routers "Wireless Settings". This establishes wireless isolation and prevents my Iphone 4S with IOS6 from getting confused. In my experience, wireless devices looking to connect to routers or AP's can get confused based on the broadcast signal, if multiple devices are using the same channel.

Thanks!

I waited for iOS 6.0.1 before upgrading my iPad 3 because of the know WiFi problem but still no luck - it drops often. It's true - there are a lot of wifi networks around but I didn't have such a problem with iOS 5. When the wifi disconnects, I still can see my network in the "Wireless Settings" as disconnected. I think Apple should fix this bug.

I can't understand why consumer organisations and programmes, such as Which? and Watchdog in the UK have not picked up on these issues. Apple is a huge company and does not seem interested in the poor experience of so many customers. Even knowing that they are aware that there is an issue and are working to resolve it would be nice. Maybe it's time to get something trending on Twitter in the hope that the media picks up on it!

I'd back the Twitter idea. I went into my local Apple store last night as my iphone 4 no longer connects to the work wifi, asked the guy about the wifi issues. He told me that I shouldn't believe what i read online (he's calling you guys liars) and the phones can't pick and choose what networks they connect to. He also recommended I upgrade. Told him to poke it and walked out.

I find it interesting that the Apple geniuses (most of them ) act as if they never heard of any wifi issue yet there are countless news articles all over the internet and Apple stores are swapping out devices like crazy according to users posts. Also their engineers developed ios 6.0.1 to address a wifi compatibility issue among other things and iOS 6.0.2 specificially to address ONLY wifi issues. Yet they act as if each case is the first one they ever heard of having an issue. LOL. That whole Apple secrecy thing is a serious policy I guess. Probably written in their employee contracts.

I agree to:

1: Act as if each service issue is the very first issue EVER with any apple device.

2: I will not divulge any information on a possible software update addressing anything because that would be admitting that there is in fact an issue.

3: I will not discuss any new devices possibly coming out until after release then I will request all customers to upgrade when they ask a question about their old device

OK all in fun here but really this whole "We cannot seem as if we are less than perfect and acknowledging a possible fault would make us look as if we are" mentality is really annoying.

Most folks understand devices and software will have some faults and bugs from time to time and that's ok. Just acknowledge it, work on a resolution and address it head on.
