I guess the moral is that if you had an issue like me... your out of luck...
I think the moral is that you're in luck because you had a good backup!

Sep 25, 2012 8:27 PM in response to pjonesCET1by pjonesCET1,Actually it just worked for a while. Its getting a little better. But now menu bar comes up after about 30 seconds Then another 30 seconds for the dock. Then the Finder never really comes up you have to manually start it.
The last couple of times its some up after about 2 minutes.
The odd thing is after everything loads everything works very fast.
And I've actually found there are two finder.plist files.
I tried removing the finder.plist file in the peference directory and when it generated there were no items in the side bare and could not be added the check boxes would n't check. I think there is something wrong with the X.8.2 Update and apple is not admitting it.
I miss the days where you download a Combo Updater run it and it would replace only the desired files.
You can't just redo the updates or Just system. Migration assistant is bad it never has worked.
From what I here on PC you want to replace the system it just overwrites the system files and doesn't affect anything else.
I even had issues with time machine so I don't know if my timemachine updates are good fot the last week or so. I guess I am going to have to to an Apple store.
First time I've not been able to fix System Troubles on a Mac and I've been using Mac since 6.1 and an SE/30 (1986).

Nov 16, 2012 2:35 PM in response to MICHAEL54AWESOMEby dlashchevskyi,Well I got the same issue today (for 2 years of using Mac ).
This happened after I've restored my Mac after my SSD failed, so I've returned to HDD.
A bit of tests solved my issue, hope you will find following steps useful, or someone else who observed such a trouble:
1) (optional) To re-confirm you've got same issue like I did go to Activity Monitor, and force Finder to quit
> this should reproduce the error
2) Invoke Finder
3) Go to Activity Monitor
4) Select Finder and Quit Process
> this will show up the quit options
5) Pick just Quit
6) Log off, Log on
This fixed my issue, I don't observe it any more.
Note: in my case I also restored couple of finder quick links in left nav, but I don't think this have any kind of relation to this.
Hope that community will find my comment useful,
Cheers,
Denys

Nov 3, 2013 9:17 AM in response to MICHAEL54AWESOMEby TPierpoint,This is crazy. I'm having major Finder issue, too, and I will NOT do an OS restore just because OS X Mavericks screwed it up. Sometimes FInder won't open folder and there is high CPU usage. What the heck? This is a major deal. Finder has been working smoothly for years and now we get an update that causes system crashes and other stuff? Is there a better answer to fixing this?

Nov 3, 2013 1:04 PM in response to TPierpointby pjonesCET1,Do this:
- Restart Computer with Shift Key Down. Thiscleans out cache files and disable and Utilities that Run at Login.
- Wait for System to load and sign in with password you gave computer when you set up computer.
- Now check to see whether finder crash or quits. When you trying to do whatever you wanted to do.
- If works you have login item that is bad.
- You need to use a Utility such a TinkerTool to turn off and on login items. And restart. When you find the bad login item leave off and see if there is a replacement
Also there has been an issue with Express cards and Mavericks (OSX.9.x) there is a defect in Mavericks that cauase all Express Cards used on Computers with expresscard slots to have Kernel Panics. I am sure after the outcry from the Masses Apple will fix problem in next update and I don' think it will be long coming.

Oct 12, 2015 9:46 AM in response to pjonesCET1by Server rookie,I seem to have the same issue after a safe boot hanged and I had to force a reboot. I came across this thread looking for a solution. I've rebooted the machine using another HD and restored the 3 Finder prefs with TimeMachine. After a reboot back to the HD involved, I still have the same issue. I was able to log out and log in as another user on that HD. On that user I have no issues. So which other prefs do I have to trash as the Finder itself has proven to have no issues.

Sep 7, 2016 1:47 PM in response to macjackby Nolaks,Hi, when I started in Safe Mode the problem disappeared. From now on I have to use only Safe Mode?

Sep 7, 2016 2:03 PM in response to Nolaksby BobHarris,This is an old thread. Are you really on Mountain Lion? If you are on Mavericks and are running Google Drive, there is a known problem with Google Drive interfering with the Finder.
If you are not on Mountain Lion and Google Drive is not the problem, then I suggest you start a new "Post" in the forum associated with your version of OS X, and post the output from EtreCheck <https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174> or <http://etrecheck.com>
