And AGAIN if your issue is fixed by cleaning the port on the phone, then your issue is NOT the same issues as most of us have/had.
If the problem started just after you did a software update, then either you have bad luck, or - like us - you have one of the 4S phones that is affected by the softwear problem. Cleaning the phone does NOT fix a software problem.
If your phone has crud in the port, then yes, cleaning it might solve the problem. But that is NOT the issue for most of us.
Not for me anymore either, since they sent me a new phone. All I did was talk to customer service and they sent me a replacement phone. No deductable, and yes, my phone was long out of warrenty. I would suggest anyone with the software problem try calling Apple.
All that said, I'm too chicken to do the most recent update... lol
