I am so disappointed with the maps. I have an iPhone 4. The maps did nothing but ruin my old maps (no 3d maps, no Siri). No improved features etc. They should put a warning for iPhone 4 users that upgrading to the new iOS will not improve anything with maps, but just destroy its functionality. This is horrible as its something I use constantly and now have to rely on the laggy web based google maps.

You did not have Siri on your iPhone 4, unless it was jailbroken, in which case it  cannot be asumed to run any current software successfully.

For a less extreme view:  Apple maps vs competitors

Even if Apple does start to work on improving maps what can they possibly do to improve it. The whole concept is completely flawed.  Will they start their own street view? The vector based map is cute when you look at it once but its useless. Turn by turn should be an option but useless when you are trying to figure out routing options. I used Google maps every day and now I don't even bother with launching the Apple Maps app. SJ would turn in his grave and I am so disappointed with this direction. Considering going to Android now. Apple, if this is your new direction for your products you blew it big time. Bring back google maps, get over it, and make a product that users want. You are blowing it big time. So disappointed.

I don't care how much apple maps *****. I don't care when it will be fixed and I don't care how better it will be. Beause I will never use it.

I just want my Google Maps back! Right now!

I missed my appointments, got lost, costing me time and money, all because of Apple's decision. They can release 10 different maps apps if they want, but they do not have the right to take back what we had. And without notice.

Android looks wonderful to me right now and the only thing that is keeping me is my locked contract. I want continued freedom and innovation and Apple is no longer the correct place to look.

Nope. Incorrect. The don't have the right to give back what you had. Apple is no longer licensed to use Google's maps.

This clip from SNL last night nails this thread and others to the tee. It is hilarious.

BS!  iOS6 was released on September 21 and you got lost weeks later?!?  You're either a liar or a fool.

You are wrong.  Apple had at least one year left on the Google Maps license.

You are acting like a 3 year old throwing a tantrum.  And, FYI they DO have the right to change the OS as they please.  If you don't like it get another phone with another OS.  Just don't act like a peeved child.

FWIW, I'm still happily using iOS 5.1.1 and MotionX GPS Drive for turn by turn navigation.

You are not using ios6 yourself and you know about the experience better than anyone else? Yeah right. Go reply to 5.1.1 posts, particularly to those mention MotionX GPS. Don't take my time.

You mean you are no one? Good for you. I am paying tons of money to these products and merely sharing my experience. How would lying here benefit me?

Yes, I got lost and it cost me time and money. How does this make me a liar or fool? In any case this should not concern you since (1) you don't even use ios6 (2) the only feature you care about is the vibration mode.

  • stevejobsfan0123 Level 8 (40,262 points)

No, you are still wrong. Since Apple or Google terminated the contract, it doesn't matter how long they had left on it. It is void now.

  • tonefox Level 6 (9,160 points)

Thank goodness I'm retired. I'd hate to have gone through those forty years or so again, being permanently lost and missing all my appointments in the absence of smartphones and Google maps.
