Q: iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

Me tooo. I'm not able to turn my wifi on!!!! How can we fix this!!!!

Wifi greyed out. Cannot turn it on, no matter all possible troubleshooting steps regarding wifi issues done after upgrading to iOS6 OTA.

Same problem here, updated 4S OTA to iOS6 and now wifi switch greyed out, come on apple sort it out!

mine has been greying out too...

but that "solution" didnt hold up for long...it lost signal.

trying to do something in HTTP Proxy by selecting auto ( when you click on a wifi connection)

and hitting renew lease

For a sense of persepective here, numerous iOS developers reported this bug to Apple via the official bug reporter channels in the FIRST iOS 6 beta, myself included.  Apple closed my bug report in JUNE as a Duplicate Report - so they know full well of the issue.

Obviously they've chosen not to fix the issue for whatever reason, instead willingly shipping the iOS 6 public release with this as an undocumented 'Known Issue'.

The only way I've seen people resolve the issue (other than by reverting back to iOS 5.1.x) is to take their phones to an Apple Store for hardware replacement.  If you don't have Apple Care or warranty coverage then you might be in for a rude shock.

Wow, that's pretty aggravating. I'm lucky to have Apple Care for my device but people without are really screwed. Until someone sues that is… I'm really expecting a different standard from Apple here. Their devices are way more expensive than others and I think we deserve nothing but the best software on them. Period.

I've talked to Apple Care today and they have no idea how to solve they problem (greyed out WLAN switch). She said she would tell the engineers and they would look into it. I told her I want a new phone if the issue can't be resolved quickly as for me an iPhone withouth WLAN is a very expensive door stopper.

Mine has also had the same issue, how long before the fix, i looked on some other threads and saw the engineers say they are working on it. i need wifi so i dont burn up my celluar data.

I have the same problem - I've tried Resetting/Restoring (hard/soft) & every different setting the internet has offered.  I spoke to apple & they confirmed if this did not fix anything (wifi toggle still greyed) then it IS a hardware issue & they are replacing my phone as it is under warranty.  £50 to spend at the apple store for my troubles as well.

Has anyone restored back to 5.1.1 to see if the WIFI option comes back?  Just curious..

I just did it (downgrade to 5.1.1) and I am happy to announce: great success. Wifi button up and running, no problems at all. Even backup from iCloud managed to get back everything; apps, tones, icon orders / folder... I am now waiting for all the apps to download / install.

I am not sure if I am willing to give iOS 6 a 2nd try - from iTunes this time, not OTA. What do you people think about that idea?

It's not just a iOS 6 problem, it's a hardware problem.  I haven't updated to the new os based on when I updated my old 3G to iOS 4 and it ruined it's performance.  I've been waiting to update my 4s until the bugs are worked out, so I'm still running the original iOS 5 it came with, and my wifi greyed out and said 'no wifi' starting 2 weeks ago.  No update, and I'm having the same problem.  Apple better find a fix and put out a 4s recall... Thank God I'm still in the warranty period.

I have the same problem you to update my iphone 4s to ios 6 yesterday afternoon and do it with itunes, my phone did not want to turn on the wifi and the reestablishment of manufactures and reestablishment of network and even if it does not work well when wing again turn to take it as new iphone and I did not work just delete my phone number and now has no network and the wifi still not work

I think this time Apple did something very wrong

Settle down, when Steve was around we had more than our fair share of issues. This is the technology industry. What do you expect. you pay a little bit extra for Apple cause they fix the issues pretty quickly,a nd they dont have many of them.
