Q: iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

Had the same problem with the 4s after the IOS 6 upgrade - the wifi icon was greyed out, here's how I fixed it, hope it works for everyone else. Settings - General - Reset - Resent Netword Settings. Then all was good and allowed me to connect with no problem. Good luck!

I'm from Philippines and got this 4s from a legit seller/distributor. It is 6.0 by default and like the rest, wifi is greyed out. Now I am trying to reset to factory defaults (though the default is still 6.0) via itunes. Good luck and I will post here the result.

If not, I will try below additional steps.

    Soft & Hard Resets

    • Turn your iPhone off and restart it as soon as you see that your WiFi is grayed out. If WiFi capability does not return, press and hold the sleep and wake button for several seconds until a red slider appears on the screen. Drag the slider and press the sleep and wake button until the Apple logo appears onscreen. If your WiFi is still grayed out, simultaneously press the sleep and wake button with the home button for about 10 seconds. Wait for the Apple logo to appear and check your WiFi connection again.

    iPhone Deep Firmware Upgrade

    • Updating your iPhone's firmware will keep your phone's hardware up to date and ensure that its wireless capabilities will work properly. To update your phone's firmware, turn off your iPhone and connect it to your computer. Press and hold the power and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. Release the power button but continue holding the home button for another 10 seconds. iTunes will detect that your iPhone is in recovery mode. iTunes will then initiate the deep firmware update on your iPhone. During this time you cannot use your iPhone to send or receive calls and you should refrain from using other programs on your computer until the process is completed.

You need to go to the Apple store and have your unit replaced. I don't know in the Phils. If apple replaces those affected with the wifi greyed out prob. But here in Canada, apple replaced mine without questions asked.

That would be pretty easy if the phone was bought from an apple store. But how about those who got their iphones from a reseller, or some legit store.

Does not matter - warranty goes with the phone serial number. As long as your phone under warranty - they will take care of it. Problem is if phone is out of warranty. That is why we are  looking for solution.

    New ISSUE.

I took the phone to the nearest apple reps. They say that the humidity sensor in the headphones jack is pink, so there is no warranty. The problem is WATER so there is no warranty, I am on my own!!!

THat means, they broke it, and I pay!!!

Last item I buy from APPLE.

Unlucky I already bought 2 iphones, 2 ipads, 1 mac mini, 1 Macbook pro retina display, and a couple of ipods.

F-U.C,K APPLE AND BAD SERVICE!!! . you had a great company, But you are Killing your loyal customers!!!

You broke it for good this time.

I wish I had an answer from them

After almost a week of use, my iPad cannot connect to Wifi again. Shall I try the freezer trick the fourth times? OMG! When will Apple come up with a software update?

Switch your iphone off and take the sim card out. Restart your phone and wifi should work. Put the sim back without switching your phone off. Worked for me

    Hello Trapdoresoth,

My iPhone 4S had been running great with iOS version 5.1.1 until three weeks ago when I upgraded to iOS 6 via OTA and I could not use the WiFi because the option is grayed out.

Could you solve the problem? Some apple rep has contacted you?

Anyone know if Apple will bring out a new version soon?

I bought my iPhone unlocked at an Apple store in Miami (U.S.) and now live in Panama and here there is no Apple store or support. So, what can I do?

Ок so after more than 2 weeks with grayed wi-fi I just wanted to make a full circle of charge so had to to make battery drain to 0% and to do so I started to record video using iphone flashlight and in 30 min battery was already dead but the phone was really hot in the top. After that i plugged my charger in my iphone and in 5 min I saw that it connected to my wi-fi, i went to setting and saw that now it sees a several hot spots as usual before iOS 6.

I guess it works properly because of heating
and i dont know how long would greyd toggle take to come back.

The thing is my friend is going to London and its a good chanse for me to ask her to come to the apple store to have it replaced.

Im afraid to turn it off now )
