Q: iOS 6 WiFi option is GREYED OUT (unrelated to iOS 6 WiFi connectivity issues)

As reported in an earlier thread, since upgrading iPhone 4S from 5.1.1 to 6, the WiFi option is turned OFF and is greyed out/disabled. Have tried all combinations of hard/soft reboots, router resets, network settings reset, cleared cookies, etc. Nothing. The WiFi option is completely disabled.

WiFi worked fine prior to iOS 6. Now I can't turn it on. My wife's WiFi is fine, she can toggle on/off and hasn't had any other connectivity issues as reported by others.

Hmm, could this be an issue where one of the temperature sensors is causing the radio to shut off? Or maybe even a sensor monitoring routine giving off Fahrenheit values whilst the other part of the software is expecting Celcius values?

A friend has an iPad 2 with greyed-out WiFi and Bluetooth. Nothing has helped so far. I've helped her reset it, restore it, DFU restore it, hard reset it, all radio options are still greyed out.

It's going to be the freezer tomorrow...

Apple Genius showed me how to fix this today!!!!! And it worked!

    1. Back up iPhone as always (just in case)

    2. Goto settings

    3. Select Reset

    4. Select Reset All Setting

NOTE: Your data all remains in tact, but you will need to reconfigure you iPhone (eg wallpaper, ringtone selection, mail signature etc as they will return to the defaults).

My iPhone 4S now has wifi and Bluetooth back!

Tried that, of course. Didn't help. Even a complete restore (and setting up as a new iPad) did NOT work. Consider yourself lucky it worked on your iPhone. Our iPad is still without WiFi/Bluetooth.

Didn't dare try the freezer trick yet though.

Tried the freezer trick three times. It worked every time ...... for a while. The longest period is 6 days. Don't want to try again. One month gone and still no fix from Apple. Disappointment!

I have a 32gb 4S and had the same problem.

I has I stated earlier, I restored to IOS 5 and wifi was not greyed out.  The upgrade was done OTA, so I tried it again to do it connected USB to Itunes and the same problem came back.

After all this time (3 weeks) I decided not to try the freezer trick but to head to the Apple store.  I wanted in and in 15 mins I had a new 4S in my hands with IOS v6 installed. (they installed at the store before I left is why it took so long).  No questions asked.  He stated "we see them occasionally and we just swap them".

I restored from my local back when I got home, reactived the cell service, and now back 100% working.

Just dont know why it took me so long to drive in - now went from disappointment to a happy Apple customer again!  (I didnt have Icare or any warranty service contract on it  and they didnt even ask.)

Just a suggestion - head to the local Apple store.

Same thing has happened to me now. About two weeks after updating to iOS 6, it stopped finding wireless networks, and this morning wifi was grayed out.

Has there been any official response / reaction yet from apple in respect of this challenge? It's such a nightmare!

    Wi-Fi module does not work.

This should be a hardware issue.

Although there is no 'official' response, Apple is aware of the issue.

I decided to email Tim Cook last week explaining my disappointment regarding iOS6 and my iPhone 4S regarding the WiFi issue (greyed out) and my Bluetooth also doesn't work which means I can't connect to my car kit.  It is against the law to use your phone without a kit in Australia.  A long story short, I advised that many people would be happy with an official response that it is software and a potential fix date.

Thinking that nothing would come of it, I received a phone call from Apple Care Australia on Friday stating that Tim had passed on your email.  Their response to me is that Apple is aware of the issue, and they are working on the fix in the next update; however they can't give a date of release until it is thoroughly tested etc. Note they also do browse the user forums the forums for information on issues users are experiencing for fixes etc, although they do not respond to them.

Apple care were also kind enough given that my job as a sales rep requires access to the car kit, a swap out of the phone.

Again, although a bad situation it shows that Apple's level of customer services compared to competitors (in my opinon) is exemplary!

I was in a city with an apple store (we live 110 miles away),  I went in and they fixed me up really fast.  Said they heard there was some issues with the upgrade to ios6.    He checked the moisture senser ran a diagnostic and said that it's still under warranty, they would replace it.   I bought my wife's phone at the same time but after what happened with mine, she wouldn't let me upgrade it..   While at the apple store, I asked if they could upgrade it there to make sure that the wifi worked.  They took care of that and we had no problems. We now have two iPhone 4s working fine.

I have to say, I'm very please with how we were treated at the apple store.  Makes me feels better about the apple products.

Had my 4s 32gb for just a month & have been very pleased with it.

Got back from holiday today & now have the dreaded wifi greyed out issue. Tried reset network, reset all, factory reset & restore from backup - still same :(

Also tried flicking through various options of airplane mode (as I used it when away) but still same. Thing is, had no 3G in the states & only used wifi. Now back in the UK I have 3G but can't use wifi!!

    I'll try O2 tomorrow.
